Vex Raid Idea

The Mothership Open Space, Sol System It starts off with an encrypted transmission. The Ghost decrypts it. "I am Oculus, of Vex. Your life, as it has been, is over. The existence of the Light, will be eradicated. Fatality is imminent. Resistance is futile." It ends there. At first, the team of Guardians is confused. However, suddenly, in mid-warp, an electro-magnetic pulse erupts out of subspace. The warp engines are offline, the ships can only move with basic thrusters. Unidentified vessels enter the vicinity. They begin opening fire upon the Guardians' ships. A space battle commences. Phase One: The Guardians are in a free-flight zone with their ships. Their ships now can fire Solar, Arc, or Void lasers and lock-on torpedoes. The team fights off several waves of unknown ships. Suddenly, all goes quiet. Everything has stopped. Then, a MASSIVE dodecahedron, the Vex mothership, appears, at LEAST five times the size of the Traveler. It is unlike the other vessels. Its hull is immune to all types of damage. It continually unleashes various ships. Since weapons have no effect on the ship, the Guardians must board it and destroy it from the inside. There are many docking ports on the sides of the ship. However, they only become boardable when the mothership is releasing enemy vessels. The openings are also very small, so Guardians can only enter one-at-a-time per docking port. So, the Guardians must destroy the current ships and wait for the mothership to release more. Once it does, a Guardian must drive his or her ship directly behind it, entering the docking port just before it closes. All six Guardians must do this, and then the next phase begins. Phase Two: The Guardians all meet up in a central location and dock their ships. From this point forward, they continue on-foot. They find themselves in a massive, empty room. The walls are lined with various technologies of unknown origin. There is a mysterious, faint green glow to each and every wall. In front of the team of Guardians, is a large door. The team approaches it and uses a Ghost to open it. After waiting for a few seconds, the door does not open. Suddenly, the ceiling comes crashing down and destroys the Ghost. The debris allows for an awkward climb to the floor above. Once done, the Guardians find themselves in what seems like an engine room. They look around, attempting to find a way to stop the mothership's engines. A terminal is found. The team attempts to access it, but it is to no avail. Without warning, the terminal explodes, sending the Guardians flying back against the opposite wall. There is a bright, blinding light that lasts for five seconds, and then dissipates. It leaves behind a single Minotaur, known as, "Orion, the Disruptor". Orion is twice the size of a normal Minotaur. He wields dual, rapid-fire Torch Hammers and can also fire a directed energy beam out of his eye. He has a shield around him, similar to that of a Hydra's. However, it encompasses his entire body. Since Guardians are unable to damage him, they must find a way to bring it down. Behind Orion, is a short gate and an engine core just behind that. Guardians are unable to shoot it directly, but they can throw grenades over it. They must continually pop grenades over the gate and onto the engine, whilst avoiding Orion's weapons and fending off the incoming Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Harpies. Once the team has successfully destroyed the engine core, it creates a massive shockwave that disrupts Orion's shields. He can still fight back, but his shields are down and Guardians can now destroy him. However, once the engine is destroyed, Orion periodically spawns a new type of Hydra, called an, "Engineer". Engineers fly up onto the gate and attempt to repair the engine core. If not destroyed in time, they will successfully repair it and the process must be repeated. Once the Guardians are successful and have eliminated Orion, a door materializes on the left and the team walks through it, to the next phase. Phase Three: The door leads to a long, narrow bridge across a vacated chasm. It is completely abandoned and there appears to be no bottom to the abyss beneath. On the other side of the bridge, is a teleporter. Several Hobgoblins, called, "Cathidians", appear from it, but they are strange in nature. Their limbs and body structure have been, literally, twisted. Instead of snipers, they have anomalous hands. The hands can reach out across the entire bridge, grab a Guardian, and launch him or her off into the abyss. The Cathidians are unaffected by projectiles, so the Guardians have to rush across the narrow bridge to melee the Vex, while attempting to evade their arms. Once halfway across the bridge, pedestals appear off of both sides of the bridge. Standard Hobgoblins appear and attempt to snipe the team. The Guardians must dispatch both the standard and freaky Hobgoblins before they can enter the teleporter for the next phase. Phase Four: The six-man team appears in the central plexus of the Vex mothership. It is a vast circular room, with absolutely NO cover, and the energy containment core in the direct center. This energy core is extremely tall and about thirty meters in diameter. Random holes appear in the walls, and a series of Harpies flies out. These Harpies, called "Pilots", move at blindingly fast speeds and have a Void overshield on top of their Arc shield. They have no projectiles, however, if one physically touches a Guardian, he or she gets the debuff, "Assimilation". This debuff takes complete control over the Guardian. This Guardian can now damage and be damaged by other Guardians. The only way to remove it, is to die. Once the Pilots have been destroyed, the final phase begins. Phase Five: The energy containment core breaks into four pieces and disintegrates, revealing the final boss, "Oculus, the Conqueror". He is a five-story tall Hobgoblin with three rapid-fire rifles, as well as a shoulder-mounted Torch Hammer. Unlike standard Hobgoblins, he does not have a crit-spot on his stomach. It is covered by a thick sheet of metal. Oculus moves freely around the chamber, and can also stomp on the Guardians. He is completely invulnerable to Solar damage (bye-bye, Gjallarhorn). He has three rotating shields, similar to the Undying Mind's, however it moves to any place that is currently taking fire, rather than just circling around. An infinite amount of Vex of every type spawn. A unique type of Praetorian spawns as well, called "Arions". The Arions are just high-health Praetorians, but drop their arms when killed. You can pick up their arms, and throw it at Oculus. They deal massive amounts of damage and penetrate his shields. At random moments throughout the fight, there will be a message that says, "Oculus scans the air". If there are any Guardians in mid-jump during this, they will permanently lose their shields until they die. If Oculus is not killed within a certain amount of time, then he will Enrage. If this happens, all enemies will only be Axis Hydras and Hobgoblins. Also, Oculus will gain an Arc overshield and will grow a second shoulder-mounted Torch Hammer on his opposite shoulder. When Oculus is finally killed, he will explode in a fiery explosion. A cutscene then plays, showing the Guardians running away from the many explosions, boarding their ships, and flying away, with the Vex mothership exploding in the background.

There a few hit-or-miss ideas here, but the concept seems sound. Orion: Orion in greek mythos is a famously skilled hunter, and a Vex named after him should reflect this. Instead of the damage beam, he could be overseeing the area, his watchful eye a large field of light, and it requires stealth (and maybe distraction tactics) to defeat him. Alternatively, you could rename him Hephaestus, and keep him the same. Engineers would need a more unique name though. The "Cathidians" (which you appear to have misspelled) sound like an interesting idea, but the fact that you can't even shoot down or dodge (please confirm or deny) their "hands" sounds a bit too challenging. The "Pilots" have a generic title as apposed to the usual greek mythology, and they don't sound like a feasible enemy type with their twin layers of shields and possibly impossible to track speed. Maybe they could stay just out of sight and "watch" you, and only come out when you are near something they don't want you near. It could even just trap the player it is assimilating, and require the help of your fellow guardians to vanquish. Oculus: Are you sure this isn't a crack at the Oculus Rift? You sure? Well, anyways, he seems a bit too "in your face" for a Vex machination, considering the Vex is a shared consciousness. The large number of weapons (three slap rifles for a two-armed construct? AND a torch hammer?) makes him a chore to deal with already, but add in the three shields and their ability to track and intercept oncoming fire, and you got yourself an over-powered boss. Then of course you add even more weapons and shields to deal with, thus making him impossible to fight. How about instead you give him two mounted Wire Rifles (Vex snipers) with a held Torch Hammer and a Templar shield and call it a day? In addition, you describe Guardians beating Oculus to death with the arms of fallen Praetorians. Seems a bit strange. Maybe Guardians could obtain Relics off of them instead? Maybe even some Torch Hammers of their own. Again, though, you don't much keep the Vex leader in line with his namesake. Which is a hole in the ceiling. Good idea, but it needs some work. I'd love to be able to fire the weapons on my ship! There would be so many possibilities! Like each different ship having it's own unique weapon set!
