Just finished Rings of Power and holy…

I’m hooked. Seriously good show, great acting, awesome costumes and CGI, soundtrack, everything. Spoilers ahead, so be warned.
I’m very curious to see who the stranger is. At first I wondered if he might be Tom Bombadil, but I think he’s too big and Tom Bombadil was supposed to be older than Middle Earth, so it’s probably not him. Could be Sauron in one of his forms, he was known to trick people. I also wonder if it’s another Mair, similar to Gandalf and Sauron. Or if he’s an entirely new character made for the show. Galadriel is awesome, love the fight scenes and I can’t wait to see more of her. Arondir is also really cool, I can’t wait to see him in action. Bronwyn seems like an interesting character as well. Love how they’re keeping the theme of forbidden elf and human love. The Harfoots are really funny, they bring some nice lightheartedness to the darker areas of the show. What we glimpse of Sauron looks incredibly menacing, kind of looks like a cross between the Peter Jackson version and an original idea. Orcs are creepy, I really like how they wear skulls. Adds an extra factor of ick to them. The symbol of Sauron, the Eye is really cool looking too. I hope we get to see Gil Galad in action, and since one of the posters they released has him holding his spear, it’s safe to assume he will fight. I’m hoping Elrond fights as well. Overall, I’m very happy with the show, the CGI is some of the best I’ve seen in recent years, the music is wonderful and the story feels new and original while still maintaining what Tolkien wrote. I also like how it’s loose in its connection to Peter Jacksons trilogy. There’s elements in terms of aesthetics and music, but still it’s own thing, which I think is great. I just hope we get to see a couple female dwarves with beards. They said we would see that though, so I’m not worried. Well done Amazon, well done. • Not reading all that, but good job. Or sorry that happened.

    • Did they make Galadriel a lesbian? Modern writers can't seem to write a strong female lead without inverting the character's -blam!- nowadays. It simply doesn't compute for them and it's now become a stereotype.

I think I made it halfway through the first episode. For whatever reason it just wasn’t compelling. A snow troll appeared and I felt no sense of danger, didn’t really care if any of the Abercrombie models died. Edit: upon second viewing, I tried to be less cynical. It’s not *that* bad. I probably had unrealistic expectations set by Peter Jackson’s LOTR, along with the rest of us naysayers.

        • Okay, the stranger is obviously Gandalf, knew it from his first scream

          •
ok for the record. I totally screamed out,“TOM BOMBADIL!” While watching it. It definitely isn’t, but I would die laughing if they turned Tom mother-blam!-ing Bombadil into a main character.
It was better than I first imagined. A bit slow at first but it held my attention. I did feel really tensed with that goblin scene in the House though
do you think the kid could be the Witch King?
Interesting, I'll give it a try. I can't say it had me all that intrigued to begin with but if you feel it's worth a watch I will do. Mind you I am not a Tolkien super-fan and most of my knowledge of Lord of the Rings and Tolkein is either from the movies or through friends who are obsessed.

Tolkien fan for 40 years. It was well done. The short-haired elves will take some getting used to, but they clearly wanted to give their work its own, more ancient/primitive look. While still allowing you to believe you’re seeing prequels to the Peter Jackson movies. I think they struck a good balance
I was worried about Galadriel going in, but I find that I’m liking this portrayal. She is portrayed such an angry and ambitious character, that you can understand why the Valar banned her from the Undying Lands until after the end of the Third Age…and why Frodo offering her the One Ring was such a test of character.
My only concern at this point is pacing. They are having to move so fast and do so much worldbuilding that I fear they may lose people who are not already familiar with the material.
Especially since there is little visual difference between the areas that were under Elven/Edain control and places like Harad/Southland that were dominated by Morgoth. Loved the flashback to The War of Wrath with the dragon killing of the Great Eagles..and the price the Noldor paid in warring against Morgoth (I now know many names for death…)
