Raid mechanics/difficulty

Basically what I’d like to see in the raids is essentially less mechanics. I’m not saying make it easier rather make it harder to stay alive. Have hoards and hoards of adds, increase boss AI intelligence, abilities and aggression or something along those lines. I’ve fallen out of wanting to raid because of the mechanics that I don’t think suit the looter shooter ideology. I don’t think I’m alone in this and I’m not saying I’ve got the answers but I think moving forward the game should aim away from the get a buff, dunk or pass an orb etc at least at the final stages of the raid. Thoughts? Edit: I also think this will aid in bringing more of the player base into the raids as more people will be willing to participate knowing they aren’t going to cause team wipes after wipes if they die because they struggle to understand what’s required for the mechanics during an encounter.

  • Wrath of the machine was the best raid in all of destiny for this reason. There were mechanics but also simple combat as well. It was a great balance. Why are we even trying to get better gear and better weapons if the amount of damage we can take/give out is irrelevant. I know for a fact you can beat both leviathan and Eater of Worlds with white gear and weapons if you have perfect mechanics. That’s just dumb.

  • vault of glass and crota had very little mechanics and were my favorite just because you only needed 2-3 people who knew what to do, so it made it much easier to teach and offered those fun clutch moments were 3 or more people died but rather than wiping you just kept going and killed the boss. Post crota raids added mechanics to spur team work, but now no one wants to teach making it difficult for solo players to find teams. not to mention the team work mechanics made encounters frustrating rather than fun.

Mechanics are great but I don’t agree with the philosophy that every guy in the raid team Needs to perform them . It’s not ballet . Swordbearer, relic bearer or whatever role that was, it was enough .. and i don’t think raids need to end up in that insane vault puzzle or at the final encounter when everyone needs to memorize the callouts for which eye of riven is which and where you have to shoot .. The old structure I loved was more RPG than now .. you needed roles like a tank or a damage dealer or a super fast dude for the lamp section .. that was more my way of fun .. instead you now have the need to have swarm of raven with spike grenades and if possible an all warlock well team . -.- Have different roles In the raids again instead of desperately trying to heavily involve everyone at the same level ..that’s not really helping and makes for a more uniformed raid team. I really think that the need to have a set of special subclasses would also help getting people to raid since if you looked for a bubble titan for the warpriest for example you haven’t been too stingy with „mkwtd 23144+ full clears, will check raid report „ Since D2 the raids especially without the two difficulty settings of D1 and especially with those stupid revive tokens and death timer have been way more tedious than they needed to be .. and i will say it explicitly ! EASIER than in D1 ..the introduction of mechanics heavy fights have lead to very easy encounters. In kings fall or wrath of the machine I killed adds every second .. just to stay alive and not be swarmed yo death.. in CoS I walk to my knight. Melee- shotgun shotgun.. then I walk back to my spot then to the other side melee the knight as soon as it raises, shotgun shotgun ..wait again.. I never waited so much in a raid But that raid has to be that easy since as long as you don’t know that mechanic by heath you have to pay too much attention to the sequence and the. You can’t have too many adds .. but once you memorized the pattern you can basically run the raid without looking at your screen .. you know where the enemy spawns , which one spawns, where it goes and how much time you have for a. Crystal or a well or to give the buff to someone .. It’s Routine once you got it . The lamp section of crotas end I raced countless times and solo or with a full team this was somehow great , always .. either hide , grenade jump and sneak in the shadows , or blast and brute force everything and defend the bridge with a sniper or a bulletstorm, it’s been nice .. ^^ CoS. , well I just cleared it 4 times and tried approximately another 4 times .. and it’s either everyone knows the drill then it’s trivial or people figure it out and then it fails countless times , most of the time because people pay attention to the mechanics and forget about the adds (the very few adds)

You want dumbed down raids...that are just horde modes...and are guaranteed clears. So you want strikes...or EP. Raids are designed to require alot of coordination. Get coordinated, or play one of the many game modes that require absolutely no coordination.

          • Mechanics = what makes a raid a raid Its part of the entire raid experience and concept. This is true in other games too. With the direction Bungie is taking with Shadowkeep I expect to see more mechanic based stuff with harder mechanics due to players being stronger from armor 2.0

Stopped reading as soon as you said "remove mechanics but don't make it easier". They are the same thing. Nothing in this game is that hard and raids are the only challenging PvE content and they should stay that way.

Mechanics make a raid challenging though, and spire of stars proved that. The extreme intensity of the adds and the heavy mechanics make it the hardest raid in D2, it's also why I love the raid. D1 lacked heavy mechanics in most of the raids, which is what made them much easier than D2 raids (with the exception of king's fall, the only raid to feature intense mechanics that required almost flawless execution) I personally enjoy the heavy mechanics in D2 raids. Sure wrath of the machine and vault of glass are enjoyable, I feel they're just to simplistic. Crota doesn't count as a raid.

              • Scourge of the Past, Eater of Worlds and Crown of Sorrows have very little raid mechanics. Last Wish only has one mechanic heavy fight being Riven and you can literally damage right past those at the moment. The rest is fairly balanced with mechanics. Leviathan has a good balance of mechanics. Spire of Stars is awful. I completed the prestige version once and then never went back to it. That had way too much stupid bs going on in it.

                • I think crown of sorrows is incredibly easy, but just requires full-team understanding rather than a couple complex mechanics that only 2-3 people have to understand (like last wish). Most of the complicated stuff can truly be done by just a few people in the fire team. Mechanics make raids raids, otherwise, what sets it above the strikes? It’s what VoG was to me.

                  • Sounds boring. Killing enemies is easy, it doesn’t matter how many there are. If I wanted to play with no communication required, I would just do Menagerie or Reckoning. 90% of the people that play this game just want to be carried.

                    • it needs a practice mode with bots so people can keep trying till they got it down , then add matchmaking that allows only people who completed the tutorials

No!!! I enjoy killing mindless enemies while solving a Rubik's cube, playing dance dance Revolution and partaking in a round of Simon says. Raid mechanics need to stay

                    • I'd like to see a raid where instead of bosses you have to ascend levels in a tower like situation and the higher you go think of firefight the more loot you get and when you reach the 100 floor for example you get the raid exotic making a hoard mode to reach higher floors/high scores sounds kinda cool

                    • Not gonna bother saying dumb down the mechanics because we already know how more people on here will react. Will say though I watch guides and see the potential rewards for a raid and just go "yeah. Not worth putting up with a puzzle game that has if one person fails it's basically a wipe." For me vault of glass and crota's end, as well as wrath of the machine but never completed that one because I was under leveled for the for the final encounter and didnt have a mic, were the best all around. You had some degree of roles, year 1 atleast the raid weapons had the unique quality of being elemental in our primary slot which made me really what them. Mechanics were simpler yeah but with more of a focus on survival in a lot of it. Compared to now you have where everyone has to have a role in a mechanic basically, someone dies and if no one can res them in time it's a wipe, and failed a mechanic and it's a wipe. For me the rewards just arent worth the hassle because even if a gun is good or theres a chance for unique perks that are awesome there's gonna be far more trash rolls that could appear instead. Now if toxic players havent jumped and started a rant on what I've said, the person making this post is talking about ways to get more people into actually doing raids while keeping it still a difficult thing, which would also result in having more people to raid with or replace members that couldn't make it or dont want to do it. We already see nerfs to things preventing one player alone being able to just steam roll mobs with their super. This means its gonna take more coordination if you want to do such a thing in grabbing orbs from allies supers. Of course though I do get the other side though for why they would say this is easier, and it is because of a mix of supers and exotics. We have guns like bad juju that can get a nice damage bonus from slaying out and build up supers fast. Next we have warlock well of radiance with a chest piece to help them get the well back faster. Same for hunter tethers that can mow down hordes and produce lots of orbs and tita... right titan constant shoulder- charge and heal stuff.
