Welcome Warlocks!
Here I wanted to make a thread that focused on the talent selection for VOIDWALKERS that players use in both PvP and PvE. Feel free to also include a key exotic armor or weapon choice that may play into your talent selection, as I'm sure many people will be interested in some unique combinations they may not have tried yet!
I'll start with my 2 current setups and so we can utilize a format throughout these posts that stays consistent and easy to understand by both veterans and newcomers alike.
PvE:
-Scatter Grenade
-Blink / Burst (only if absolutely necessary)
-Shatter
-Surge (Life Steal in Raid)
-Arcane Spirit
-Annihilate
-Divine Order
-Bloom / EtV
Notable Exotics: Obsidian Mind / Nothing Manacles
The goal here with this build is summarized in one word: EXPLOSIONS. Just take your pick if you want it to be from an abundance of Nova Bombs, or an endless cycle of Scatter grenades.
PvP:
-Axion Bolt
-Blink
-Prefer Vortex (but this is personal preference)
-Soul Rip / Life Steal (leaning back to LS since update to on hit)
-Arcane Spirit
-Annihilate (for Lance or Vortex) / Angry Magic (for Shatter)
-Divine Order
-Bloom / Vortex Mastery (for Vortex)
Notable Exotics: Voidfang Vestments, Skull of Dire
Voidfang for guaranteed grenade for harassment every spawn, or Skull for a little toughness and to help speed up my grenade cooldown, since I generally stack Int/Str. **Also Nothing Manacles can be very fun to use, just swap to Scatter grenade, and more likely that you'll want to use Bloom.
Let the discussion begin! I will be more than happy to share any reasoning behind my choices, or some healthy debate as to what you think would work better if I made some changes.
Fight on, Guardians!

Edit: Love all the input so far from everyone! Thanks for keeping up the convo! I'm also going to leave this link here that I found to help clarify some of the details in regards to ENERGY DRAIN and how it functions. http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2lzh0r/energy_drain_the_effect_in_detail_and_in_numbers/
Edit: Just wanted to summarize a little bit here on a recurring suggestion. Many of you seem to love the use of both Vortex grenade and the Vortex Nova Bomb. Now while I see the utility in both of these skills for PvP in locking down choke points, etc, I must respectfully disagree with their usage for PvE (unless the argument is the same as Solar grenades as places to hide inside and remain enemy-free). I find far more often in PvE that these effects will push enemies away, often times without killing them. Now in turn, if you were to use Scatter/Axion paired with Bloom and Annihilate, I think you will be far more pleased with the raw killing power and amount of chain reaction explosions you experience. Just food for thought.
Edit: I now also always use Bloom in PvP. Always. (Unless using Vortex Bomb) Have already lost track of the extra kills in Crucible due to the explosions.
LATEST CHANGE!: I have taken out Life Steal in favor of Soul Rip. This is because I was not finding many situations where Life Steal actually saved me, where as even if I get the kill and die when using up the charge, I'm getting the bonus to Nova Bomb. More Nova Bombs is always a good thing, and since I do not use Obsidian Mind this makes up for some extra gain to Super, while I also still gain bonus from my grenade kills due to the perk on my helmet and always having a new grenade with Voidfang. Killer combo feedback loop.
4/6: More changes to PvP setup to increase agility, and trying out Lance to speed up kill time on Nova Bomb.
6/19, the one about HoW: Nothing Manacles have proven Scatter grenades to be a lot of fun in PvP now as well. I try to use them with Annihilate and Bloom, but the more I think about it I may try out The Hunger + EtV just so I can have basically endless grenades since the charge rate should be extremely fast. The Ram seems nice if you're really always an in your face type Warlock, which many are given our strength with melee. The extra armor is the real bonus here though. To me anyway, The Ram shines in PvE. You gain so much Life Steal and can then also keep Surge up, that you are just as fast or faster than a Hunter on the battlefield, with much more destructive weapons at your disposal. The extra armor again, now coupled with blink, should have you easily able to take on large groups of enemies with no fear.
TAKEN KING (11/24): This update ended up being a shorter one than I originally expected, but most likely due to the lack of new exotic choices at our disposal. Despite that though, I'll quickly break down my new PvE and PvP choices, with some extra detail.
PvE: I alternate between Obsidian Mind and Claws, but only due to Light level boost until I can infuse OM higher. 310 Raid helmet and 310 Claws just push me higher at the moment, and tbh, having 2x Lifesteal for Hard Mode is not a bad thing. For almost all other areas of play though, Obsidian Mind still takes the cake. With Nothing Manacles soon to be back, I will likely explore them as another high DPS possibility for PvE, but I actually have moved to enjoying Axion Bolts in PvE. When paired with Bloom they can still do huge destructive power, and spread to an even wider AOE than Scatter grenade will give you.
PvP: Voidfang, Voidfang, Voidfang. Stack Int/Str and throw on these bad boys for a great time. No other exotic will have a larger impact on your PvP play than having a new grenade guaranteed every spawn for Axion Bolt harassing. Again, paired with Bloom, and you should net quite a few double kills off an opening break just by your team shooting primaries into oncoming enemies to knock shields down before everyone dips for cover. Toss an Axion as the follow-up and watch the purple explosions. Only other real choice I see is Light Beyond Nemesis for game modes with revive, however, I still choose Voidfang so when my teammate gets me up I can immediately throw another grenade. Nothing Manacles PvP will soon be another option, but can't say much else about it just yet.
2016: Just now realized the attributes in my build list were out of date. I now use Arcane Spirit and Divine Order to max recovery and armor.
Goodbye Guardians: Destiny has worn thin for me (played since Beta) with Bungie's lack of transparency and inability to understand balance and player needs. I understand lots of behind the scenes and politics go into this and I hope to be back one day for D2 if they add dedicated servers and start doing right by their player base. Until then, fight on Guardians, it's been fun.
Rise of Iron: Excited to be back. Having a lot of fun with my Voidwalker again. Will update soon.

I run the exact same pve except I always use Soul rip with the ram, I use the Monte Carlo and I'm invincible in pve

I found a near perfect voidwalker combo. Main parts: Ophidian aspect + memory of felwinter. Pick your favorite grenade. Life steal + the hunger + embrace the void. Grenades for days. Seriously. You almost can't not have a grenade every 5 seconds. Get a kill with a grenade, and by the time energy drain is done your grenade is already filed back up to the bottom of the small upper circle on the axion bolt grenade. And, you have 2 grenades. If neither get a kill, just hit something with 1 of you two melees and you have another grenade. And you're constantly getting the life steal effect too. Great survivability, although you can swap the melee effect to surge if that suits your play better. Anything increases your melee helps. Monte Carlo pairs well. But really isn't necessary. I never find myself out of grenades and melee. Makes anything with void burn extremely easy. And it's just damn fun throwing grenades constantly

Hey all first post on here since after the rise of iron update and I hope everyone finds it to be of some help. PvP Axion bolt Blink Shatter (paired with others for max reduction of next super) Soul rip (paired for max reduction of next super) Arcane spirit Annihilate Ancestral order Embrace the void (for benefit of sustain with equipment pairings) Gear of note Ophidian aspect (perhaps one of the greatest exotics released with the rise of iron update, gives faster reload for all weapons and the improved energy drain stacks very nicely with the perk of soul rip to give you higher output while also allowing for cd reduction of next super, not to mention the snap discharge and momentum transfer on top of that) With this build I like to run with a hand cannon for those quick shots paired to take enemies down quickly with melee and Axion seeker I also find it effective to use a solar sniper rifle to take out those pesky gunslingers and hammer titans without ever having to get close enough for them to use it I find this build to be most effective at mid to long range engages as shotguners are a dime a dozen in this new meta, although a quicker draw with this build will be very rewarding with this build in close engages as most of the perks are stacked to take them out quickly before they can deal that insanely boosted shotgun damage on you. I hope people were able to find this of use as this is my first post so eager to hear any feedback!

Hey! I have a PvP build that works really well for me. Tell me if you have any problems or improvements! This is what i have so far. Voidwalker ---------------------------- •Scatter Grenade •Focused Burst •Vortex •Surge •Archane Force •Annihilate •Ancestrial Order •Bloom Weapons ---------------------------- •Palindrome •Matadore 64/LDR 5001 •Truth Noticeable Gear ---------------------------- •Helmet with Ashes to Assests perk •Nothing Manacles Hope I helped. :)

When wearing Voidfang Vestaments in Crucible, are Axion Bolts with a third seeker capable of killing full health guardians? I've not tried yet, but know that two seekers are forever only getting me assists where they take down around two thirds of their health, armour dependent of course. If they are then I know what Exotic can potentially replace The Ram in ToO, Ophidian Aspect look tempting as well to be fair.

Thank you so much I needed to find a good guide for a novabomb subclass for pvp You helped me so much

so I have been using a lifesteal build since the April update. axion bolt blink shatter arcane spirit annihilate divine order and embrace the void. this build along with me using bad juju and the ram allows me to be insanely hard to kill plus putting a huge amount of damage out with my melle. note I already have bad juju so for me intellect wasn't a problem and this build should be focused on your neutral game more. so run a discipline and strength build and have at it. note this is a nice build in 3v3 unless you are running sunsinger in which case the ram works and bad juju can actually be effective if you run intellect alongside it and you can get about 3 self res in a trials match. pretty insane.

In finishing levelling up my voidwalker, for pvp I'm thinking vortex mastery or embrace. Just wanted some opinions on either of these ?
-
Please comment on the pros and cons of this Void PvP build: AXION BOLT--BLINK--LANCE--SURGE--ARCANE SPIRIT--ANNIHILATE--DIVINE ORDER--BLOOM I'm using Obsidian Mind (Super Bonus) and gauntlets that increase grenade throwing range. I have Bad Juju (Super Bonus) and Red Death (Health Bonus). I've been using Bad Juju. I also have The Ram (Armor Bonus. Melee steals life), but not doing much melee. This build is for PvP. Crucible, etc. I haven't been doing much melee anyway. So thought is to focus on Grenades and Nova Bomb. Working good, but toying with idea Embrace the Void over Bloom?

So my friend and I just back into this game this past week (haven't played since vanilla) and I picked up The Ram from the weekend vendor which will be my only exotic armor and I have read that its great for viodwalker but it seems I'm finding it difficult to find builds for it. Is The_Hunted's build for The Ram good? What would you suggest?

Edited by CosmicOwlChild: 1/8/2016 4:18:11 PMWhat are your PVP build now?. Sadly I'm stuck at 282 (no new game raid gear =/). I'm trying to make my void warlock a tank. so he's int is at 225 and he's strength is at 250 and des 61. -scatter -Focus burst -vortex -surge /soul rip / life steal (depends what's needed ATM) -arcane spirit -annihilate / hunger -divine order -mastery / embrace
-
My favorite build: Axion bolt Blink or Focused burst (your choice) Melee: Soul rip Nova bomb: Any, but I recommend shatter. Arcane wisdom The hunger Chaos order Embrace the void EXOTIC: The Ram (REQUIRED!) This is a melee focused build. Toss an axion bolt at someone, blink in and melee them. Or, since you have life steal, win any melee fight.

Shameless bump

Bump. This is a perfect build guide.

necoring this http://www.destinydb.com/calculator/talents/voidwalker#14.zsscij;15.3,0:4,0:6,0:8,0:12,0:16,0:27,0:28,0 ^^my build reasoning below Axion bolts-outside of control where vortex is nice, axion is overall better, not al ot of kill potential but it can soften up a group allowing you to get a nice life lead for firefight engagements. often lets you go for a push and cause some chaos. Blink-because blink Shatter-honestly Lance and Shatter are imo dependant on playstyle and to a extent the maps. shatter for more area coverage, lance for longer shots (its really not hard to copmensate for the arc, if you cant i assume your bad with grenades too) Soul Rip-also somewhat interchangeable with surge wich provides a slightly better neutral game. your melee is probably your least important part of this build. Angry Magic-because armor, and 3 tracking bombs is nice...annhilation is another good possibility, i dont take the hunger because i run the skull of dire helmet. Embrace the void-yes bloom is nice, yes there are times where its useful, but embrace the void+skull of dire=a nice feedback loop combined with high INT/DISC build you can have grenades out a LOT. conversely you could go voidfang with INT/STR and die a lot...your choice. another optional is control poitn focus, vortex mastery, with vortex grenade and vortex nova bombs...or you can switch shatter with lance and probably take annhilation to copmensate for the smaller explosion.

Epic article =)

Same setups I use, it works wonders. (:

Bloom Max discipline Scatter grenade Nothing manacles
never mind :(
Glad to see this still gets a visit once in a while! As I am still using Voidwalker in King's Fall and Crucible, perhaps an update is due.

Hmmm... Never thought about using Bloom very much before. I'll try it out! On the topic of grenades, I find the Axion Bolt to be pretty crappy for PvP. Whenever I use it I'm always thinking about how much more effective a well-placed Vortex would be. I play mostly Control, so tossing down a Vortex Grenade in the midst of a contested zone will almost always net a kill or two. Also, Vortex Grenades can be a OHK, only if they stay in the vortex long enough though. Keep in mind, not everyone will have perfect connection either, and a second of lag can do at least a third of someone's health. Then you have to factor in reaction time, and availability of escape. If you don't throw your Vortex Grenades around carelessly, and save them for good situations, then they become extremely deadly. As for Scatter, I'm very rarely finding amazing situations for it. I don't really Nova Bomb people out in an open field where the huge AoE would be useful. I mainly use it for clearing zones, shields, and enemies holding chokepoints. I find Lance to be extremely useful here, as I don't have to spend any time making sure I've got it angled correctly. The enemies have less time to dodge it too. I've blinked out of many Nova Bombs before when I was at the epicenter, but almost never have done it with a lance. Obsidion Mind, Bad Juju, and Voidwalker Perks decked out mostly for super regen can get me almost double the Nova Bombs I normally would have in a game. With the Pulse Rifle buff a while ago Bad Juju can kill in 3 bursts to the head. I can consistently kill with it, and get the effects a lot. PvP Build: Vortex Grenade Blink Lance Soul Rip Arcane Force Annihilate Ancestral Order Embrace the Void I'll probably be swapping out the Vortex Grenade for the Scatter Grenade, and Embrace the Void for Bloom to test them out. I'll update this when I'm done testing.
-
You need to be using soul rip and embrace the void. That with obsidian mind and juju. Throwin nova bombs like Oprah. You get a nova bomb and you get a nova bomb and you get a nova bomb....
-
I still come back here for voidwalker builds.
