EDIT: With the newest Bungie blunder in full effect I felt this would be a good time to revive this thread, as I think there are some really good ideas in here.
I have always said that removing or limiting special ammo will not fix the core problem with snipers in destiny, and 1 day in its looking like I was right. Please read on and comment. A quick breakdown of my ideas:
- add slight sway
- add longer animation to scope in (like in FO4)
- remove perks for quick scoping
That's it. Now snipers won't be roaming around sniping from 3 ft away, and with sway it'll actually take some "skill" to line up a headshot. Fixed.
EDIT: Added vid courtesy of Rauko, whom in his own words perfectly illustrates "everything wrong with snipers in 16 seconds."
Thanks so much everyone for actually being civil! So many great ideas, keep it up!
This is not a nerf post. This is constructive feedback aimed at shaping a more dynamic and reasonable role for sniping.
I feel snipers really only need a few minor changes, to return them to their intended long range role.
- No change to aim assist
- No change to damage output
- No change to ammo capacity
- Add minor sway (keep reading), not as extreme as FO4, but I just feel like there should be at least a slight sway while hard scoping.
- Add a delay in the animation when scoping in. This one I feel would completely fix the problem of people running around maps sniping from 5ft away. ***EDIT: removed FO4 vid reference. Many have suggested removing perks like snapshot and quickDraw. I definitely feel like this would help though I don't think it would totally fix the no scope/ quick scope problem. I still feel the issue would be completely fixed by simply adding a longer "aim" animation.
I have no problem with snipers when they are used effectively in there intended roll, as one shot long range death dealers. But people should not be able to just run around the map sniping in close quarters. At least not on a consistent basis.
My mute button is primed but my hope is to simply have a discussion, and possibly brain storm some ideas that maybe catch bungies attention before they inevitably nerf snipers into the ground.

Hey, show this one too, kind of has a similar relation to this situation.
-
8 Antwortenall that is wrong with Destiny snipers in 16 seconds. just watch.
-
How about just buff sidearms and fusion riffles
-
Slow down the scoping animation, add more bounce when getting headshot, lower hipfire, and lower AA from perks/scopes. Good snipers will still do fine at mid/long range....where a sniper is supposed to be used.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von z_cryptix_z: 1/11/2016 10:16:17 PMDon't worry. Bungie will destroy snipers like they have every other weapon type because they over do all adjustments.

2 AntwortenThey recently made it so shotguns have a slower ready animation after sprinting. Whereas a sniper, which has a considerably larger frame, would obviously weigh less than a shotgun, and therefore it takes 0.1 seconds to ready a sniper (0.05 with snapshot). #BungieLogic But seriously, remove res shields, extend immunity period after being res'd, scale ammo reserves so that the higher the impact, the less ammo you have and make it just slow for readying as a shotgun. This would: 1) Increase variety in snipers used outside of 6v6 modes where resurrection is not enabled. 2) High impact snipers will not be more useless compared to low impact as they can still one-shot high armored targets. However low impact snipers will have considerably larger ammo reserves, making them more effective in long term combat. 3) People will be less inclined to use a sniper as if it were a primary weapon, as they are less effective against primary weapons at close through semi-long distance seeing as a primary weapon could ready faster and pull off the first shot. I cannot fathom how easy it is to pull off a quickscope at point blank range in this game, it really is just silly how people use a sniper practically everywhere they go, and they only unsheathe their Last Word when a shotgun rushes them.

I think body damage needs to be reduced..
-
23 AntwortenSway will ruin snipers. PvP is not the only game mode in this game. Snipers are raid DPS. Adding sway will be a huge detriment to PvE.
-
1 AntwortenI think they should give it a similar change like what they did too shotguns. Make the snipers heavier, so you move slower and it's a bit slower to bring out your sniper and it should be slower to ADS.
-
10 AntwortenI agree, I think they should leave them as they are. The only thing I think they need is that their sights should tremble harder while under fire I'm really tired of blasting snipers on the head with my auto riffle and even that way they're able counter me with a headshot with out the unflinching perk that's really annoying and unfair.

I disagree, adding sway or changing the way snipers act is bad. Look around, 1000 YS everywhere, wanna know why? It was given out to everyone and the AA is extremely high. When I see "Snipers are OP" posts it makes me facepalm because it's not "snipers", it's 1000 YS. In my opinion, AA should be brought down on 1000 YS. That's all. If something else is out of line, then bring it back in line.

no sniper sway is bungie's style in sniping. They had it all of halo and look at how these mechanics work, very familiar towards halo. They are not going to change their style on that I believe which I like due to it being unique in style. If I want sway in my snipers I'll just play battlefield. Because -blam!- cod

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von MightyGodfather: 1/11/2016 10:22:50 AMI really think that the only change to snipers should be the BODYSHOT damage.. I think all these complains about snipers will fade away if the nerf that High impact snipers should do 105-110 Low impact snipers should do 90-95 I mean, getting headshots with a sniper CONSISTENTLY in CQC is extremely hard and needs alot of skill, but getting a bodyshot in Destiny is really easy to finish off with the primary.. Bodyshots are the only problem with snipers...
-
they need to get rid of snapshot and increase time to ads
-
Well I just lost Trials because of body shots from snipers. It's not the sniper it's level advantage.
-
You ppl are going to be the reason of the incoming nerf for all high impact snipers BTW I'm not a sniper but what you ppl are doing is going to backfire.
-
They should definitely make body shot damage percentage less.
-
1 AntwortenOkay, so you don't want the damage changed on snipers. However, changing the damage in some way would be the most straightforward way to buff high RoF snipers. I don't want the high RoF archetype nerfed because the high impact ones are performing too well again. So, here are some of my proposed changes for nerfing high impact snipers while keeping others strong: -Increased aim deflection when shot -Decreased aim/stow speed -Decreased movement speed when held -Higher RoF snipers have more damage for non-precision hits These changes, some of which are inspired by the last rebalance, will help ensure that snipers aren't too strong, as well as making high RoF snipers more forgiving for missed shots. Thoughts?

1 AntwortenThere can't b a sway because this is a different game. There aren't people double jumping all over the place and supering or shadestepping in fallout 4 sway would break snipers
-
5 Antwortenso no sniping from up close and no camping? so just remove snipers in general?
-
6 AntwortenYou should de-scope when shot
-
They need none at all
-
3 AntwortenRemove Flinch on Snipers entirely and replace it with descope. (PvP only) Problem mostly solved.
-
Bump, also some other great suggestions below to help balance snipers.
-
8 AntwortenFallout 4 does not have PvP and is open world. You can't compare the two, really. Destiny has insanely small maps and demands a faster pace.
