IMO, the ideal solution is for players to take control of CBMM if that's what they actually want.
CBMM is something players of p2p networked games can enforce on their own regardless of developers business needs, or developers design preferences, by using routers with geoblocking lists. Destiny is an ideal opportunity to take responsibility for our own experience. The inevitable objection is, of course: [i]"I shouldn't have to take responsibility for this." [/i] People want the qualitatively enhanced experience of CBMM but don't want to invest in the equipment that would provide it. They demand that instead, developers should individually shoulder the costs of catering to their preferences.
And there it sits.
Bungie has made their position clear ([url=https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/45919]3[/url]), ([url=http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022247/Shared-World-Shooter-Destiny-s]4[/url]). Players will have to decide whether or not they care enough about CBMM to learn how to provide it for themselves.
The tools are just waiting for people to pick them up.

Well I'll be honest I wasn't even aware that's a thing. I'm sure I'd be somewhat surprised by how many gamers have more tech-related knowledge than me, but I'd also be willing to bet there are countless others who are just as unaware of stuff like that. IF that's accurate, then we're probably a long way from seeing any sort of collective change.

In an age of instant communication, it will always be faster and easier for people to demand that someone else provide a solution than it will be to discover and provide the solution for themselves. That's a basic fact of life for a poorly educated society hobbling along on fantastic digital crutches it barely comprehends. You referenced an ideal though. The ideal, in this case, is for people to harness their desire and turn it into motivation. Ideally, people with access to an effectively infinite source of knowledge would educate themselves about the causes for, and solutions to, the problems that plague them. But people are people, and very far from ideal. Now, however, [i]you[/i] know there's a solution to your problem. The ball is in your court.

Oh absolutely, I was saying IF it's accurate that countless others are just as unaware. I don't doubt the information itself, and I'll certainly look into a geo-filter more now that it's been brought to my attention. I mean, potentially solve one of the biggest complaints in gaming? Worth it.

That breaks down to $70 for the router (which is a solid piece of equipment, easily worth the price) and $130 for the included firmware, ongoing updates, and support. You'll also discover that you can solve the problem [i]cheaply[/i], by buying an appropriate router and learning how to build your own geoblocking lists for it. If you find an option that's easy, quick, [i]and[/i] cheap, let me know. :)
