Lesbian couple in hot water...due to statutory laws.
Has anyone been following this case at all? I've been catching up.
What are your thoughts?
Is this a clear cut case of statutory -blam!-?
Are they being targeted due to orientation?
If this was a man of the same age as the older girl and his partner was the same age as the victim would the outcome, charges, and media attention be different?

If this was a lad, he'd already be labelled a sex offender and in prison. If anything, not treating the offender like any guy would be treated is discrimination against men.

I feel like they're overreacting a little. They always need to judge the "-blam!-" cases based upon intent and how the parties felt at the time. 14 is still pretty young though. Even when I was 18, that would have been way too young for me.

3 RespuestasI think that judges should do their jobs and view the law within the context of the situation. There is not any abuse going on, they are within a range of maturity that the relationship is on equal footing, there's nothing wrong with this.

She had sex with somebody under the age of consent then was told not to talk to the girl and broke those rules and is being punished for it. It's a shame but the law is the law. I doubt their orientation had anything to do with it consider it was a 18 year old having sex with a 14 year old. It's legal in the UK to have normal sex and anal sex but it's illegal for gay guys to have anal sex until they are 18. That's discrimination but probably over looked by everybody. No signs of discrimination in this care.

Although it's uncommon teens do sometimes get done for sexting. This might be the first gay couple that was picked up the media. It doesn't help that they continued after they we're first caught.

I think your use of the word victim is misaligned. The legal definition of consent is misaligned with responsibility for ones own actions so there is a time where you are responsible for what you do but cannot give consent to what you do. Enough of that, she was ordered to not communicate. She did. Unlucky.
