Bungie, the community spent days working on this puzzle. It brought a lot of us together. Unique idea. There are thousands of people mentally exhausted. And THIS was the reward? An exotic we already knew about? You know why people rage and leave, and say you all can't put together quality content?
Because of this shit right here.
Seriously. Awesome idea, but the reward was just not worth the damn grind that thousands put into this.
This is how you lose the confidence and trust in the community.

I’m just not surprised by anything Bungly do anymore All those hours by those who contributed (not me) for a truly MEH Exotic I’m sorry for you all

One of the biggest community puzzles in Destiny to date, bigger than Prime, bigger than Warmind, bigger than Niobe Labs and the reward is a roadmap exotic a week early. I find it honestly hard to believe the investment team thought "Yeah, they're gonna go wild for this one!". Very, very disappointed. We've been conditioned over YEARS to think that secret quest that appears out of nowhere = secret reward that will blow our minds. Whisper, Outbreak Perfected etc. Early access to a weapon we all knew was coming is not a sufficient reward for the sheer time and effort spent excitedly solving or watching people solve this enormous puzzle. Do not waste development time on cool puzzles in the future if you don't have an equally cool reward. It didn't have to be Gjallarhorn, or Mythoclast or a D1 sword, but it could literally have been anything (a weapon, I mean, a ghost like Niobe would've been crappy) and that would've been great. Hell, if Bastion was totally unannounced and unexpected, it probably would've gone down a lot better. To make matters worse, the quest will just unlock at reset, a week early, so people don't even have to go near the Corridors of Time, they can just rock up in the tower and visit Saint-14 to start it. I kinda feel bad for whoever designed this puzzle, because a lot of people won't even know it ever existed, but will still have the gun and wonder if the roadmap date was wrong. Streamers won't really complain, because they got a big payday out of it. Others will defend this very poor decision on the basis that Bastion is actually pretty decent (I personally feel it's a good gun). If we knew what the puzzle would lead to, I personally would've just gone "Nah dawg, i'm good, I can wait til the 28th" and not bothered to run the codes and send screenshots. People will remember this and the next time a secret mission appears.

I think the chromatic weapon core had been datamined prior to the puzzle - Houndish was one of many (no doubt) that had correctly surmised the exotic quest for bastion ‘might’ be the ultimate reward. I can’t say I was expecting the unlock of trials etc - that was just pure hype imo. The problem bungie have is the overall lack of content in a season - on the one hand they have to put things on that roadmap to tempt people in to buy the season pass on the other by revealing all any mystery is thus removed. So in the end the puzzle reward is an early unlock for a known exotic. I wonder what the reaction would have been if bastion had not been put on the roadmap? Perhaps something similar to the whisper quest or zero hour. At this point we really need main story development there are far too many individual threads - we are still without a hunter vanguard (uldren camping out in the forest currently) I personally would love the strangers story fleshed out from D1 but know that won’t happen as Luke smith said case closed effectively. My two main wants at this point are the ability to re roll armor elements for little/no cost (to get round the huge mod menu issue) and a strike playlist redux that includes strike specific loot (unique armor/weapons) - loot that the community find as they go and not broadcast on bungie.net in excruciating detail months before. The chances of either of those two wishes coming true though is highly improbable. Ah well we plod along now till the next content drop I do hope the Empyrean restoration proves diverting it’s probably the only thing on the roadmap that does have some mystery left in it.

There is only "One Bungie Community" and they all work for Bungie.
-
How can you get the Bastion if you did the puzzle on a character that didn't do the original corridors of time on that character. I tried to do the puzzle again on the original but it didn't work. Now I'm stuck with no way to get the Bastion. Any ideas
-
Good thing I’m only spending an hour on this while streamers and others spent days trying to figure this out lol
-
Disappointed with reward should be exotic sword change elements similar hardlight
-
These puzzles are awesome but only meant for streamers and YouTubers. Other people have real jobs. A lot of these streamers don't sleep and get exhausted because of it when stuff like this is happening because they can't afford that some non streamers would be worlds first.
-
it does feel like the people complaining most, are the ones who put in the least amount of effort into actually solving it.
-
Is this level of rage really necessary? You got a brand new exotic but people are mad because they didn't get a D1 reskin? Last week the puzzle was evil because it was "ony for streamers" but now no one cares about that because they have something else to be mad about.
-
To be fair at LEAST it wasn't a timed out mission for recycled content like Whisper and Outbreak.
-
Oh my god it's the end of the worllllllld. Grow up, go outside, it's a video game. At least we got rewarded with a weapon instead of just lore books.
-
Huh...I think we've reached a slightly new upvote count since...I'm going to guess Forsaken posts. At least this post is constructed well enough, compared to others.
-
Mentally exhausted lol! Grow up!
-
People spent days and the quest was solved!! What's the impact if no one bothered? No one gets bastion... perhaps, but we have no idea how the quest would have updated upon reset/following reset etc etc (the quest is future dated after all) I've seen several posts suggesting it was a waste of time, and didn't achieve anything; but it did!! We have an exotic, that came from a quest line... the roadmap says there's a quest for bastion; can't we draw a fairly simple conclusion from that??

The rewards havent been worthwhile for quite some time. Its one of the main reasons I quit playing last May. And most of the players I rolled with have quit too. Not to mention all the errors and connection issues, cheaters, and Bungie not fixing broken things for months on end. D2 has run its course. The community here is worth keeping, but the game is trash.
-
At least you got your reward. I spent hours doing it and the quest disappeared when I went to talk to Saint-14
-
Well I was a good idea but it was already in the season pass Just like the hydra boss is the other activity a missed opportunity for a cool loot (fatebringer/imago loop)
-
If the wolf in sheep's clothing keeps leading the sheep, why would he stop?
-
The userbase backlash when results aren't satisfactory is pretty extreme. I wonder if those truly upset also immediately write furious letters, expressing outrage and condemnation, when they buy a lotto ticket and don't win....
-
It’s almost like the reward for the puzzle wasn’t the weapon which is actually from a quest after the puzzle. It’s almost like the reward for the puzzle at every step has been lore and world building.
-
I think everyone needs to relax a little. It was a stupid move to give away the weapon before the puzzle but it’s not life ending.
-
I've heard there may be something more to do with this quest on the 28th January if I hear anything I will keep you posted as soon as I know more
-
I expect they thought it would take longer going on the labs precedent. It was neat that everyone got involved, anything that brings the community together is good for the game. The reward was a bit disappointing, but that feedback will be taken on board I'm sure. Its always hard to please everyone, and some will take the reward on actually completing the puzzle more as a result than the weapon itself.
-
In terms of story the ending was cool. In terms of actual rewards this was a big disappointment. We only got access to an exotic quest earlier. That's it. Worst thing about it is the fact that the final code that people spent days trying to find will be useless in a few hours cause that quest will be given to everyone. You don't even need to step foot into the corridors. There isn't a true reward behind this code, not even a triumph.
-
And it was so easy to prevent by putting in a different exotic weapon.
