So I'm terrified to play pvp now.....

I've never had the best internet connection, but it's always been above 2mbs, except a couple of very bad times where it fluctuates up and down for no reason (CenturyLink sucks) but a few months back I got a warning message in-game about my connection. I was never a huge pvp guy, but I do enjoy it every once in a while, when my connection is stable enough. however, once I started grinding for luna's/recluse (apparently you couldn't play pvp without them) I started getting more and more warnings, eventually ending up getting me a 2-week restriction. that one I understood, because that past week I had just ignored my lousy connection (like an idiot), so I totally deserved it. after that one went away, I started being much more careful in pvp, only playing with a good connection, and not playing it all the time, just randomly, when I had time around school. one day, I got an lfg fireteam to grind all the way to fabled in comp, we played seven games, winning every one of them, some because of the enemy players disconnecting. (I suspected teammates maybe Ddosing, but none of them were afk for longer than 2 or 3 seconds, and none of them were restricted like me) I had a red bar starting one round out of seven games, and that was it. one guy on my team had lousy connection, but I was fine. the next day, I logged on to try out my new luna's and recluse to find that I couldn't play pvp for 2 months! I don't know why this one came about, or how, but I've come to terms with it after a month and a half. I'm now just worried that next time I try to play pvp I will be permanently banned, for no reason just like last time. does anyone know what is going on here, or how I can be more careful in the future?

  • Its shitty peer to peer servers and than people probably spam reported you guys after you won the game .. The other guy in the lfg having an awful connection is probably the reason they reported so heavily

  • The problem i see is potentially this; you are entering in PvP knowing fully that you and possibly your teammate, as you stated, have very bad internet connections. This would cause network lag, which in most cases is not an issue; however, you are playing these matches knowing you have this bad connection and are lagging. This can easily been seen as you manipulating your connection or the connections within the matches. Basically, for most people we have lag solids here and there with connections, less so if you are wired and not on WiFi. However, with are poor connection, you are constantly dropping packets and bandwidth every match, all the time. Now, with dedicated servers this wouldn't really be as much of an issue because it would just simply mean you and only you would be lagging, and possibly be kicked. HOWEVER, thanks to bungies and destiny 2 "awesome" P2P connection system your Internet can now effect everyone else in the match, especially if the game places someone on your team....or god forbid, you and your connection, as host. Now your constant connection issues are effecting everyone else's stability. Bungie has in place a monitoring system that tracks your packet and bandwidth losses; this is to "catch" lag switchers in the act. So when you are going into comp, and getting host on your team, their system sees that you and your buddy; whose connection was also questionable, have these constant connection "issues" every game. You get flagged as lag switching. As stated, it's especially iffy because you are playing these matches knowing full well that you have this bad connection, meaning, you are "technically" performing network manipulation wether you mean to or not. Anyway....sucks....eh...

Had a similar thing happen, I got a 2 week suspension so rang my ISP, they found an error in the line and sent an engineer to sort it. I ran all tests checked everything on the help page to make sure I'd be ok playing pvp again, everything checked out had no lag no disconnections was actually starting to do well. Then up pops a 2 month suspension for no reason whatsoever, can't appeal it cant ask for reasons as bungie done give a shit. They basically see a player having a problem one week dont care if its sorted or not they just notice you playing again and slap you with another suspension just in case. Needless to say I haven't touched pvp since, actually didn't play at all for 2 months as it pissed me off that much. So yeah I basically wouldn't bother anymore as you'll end up banned either way.

          • Got my 2 week restriction at the beginning of last season and haven't touched PvP on my connection at home since. They are ruthless and I suggest you don't play until you fix your internet. Just go over to the networking section of "Help" if you want to see how many corpses have been left in the wake of the networking changes. There's a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth in there complete with the obligatory forum shaming and belittling of anyone that doesn't have access to better internet. Any time I find myself wanting to go into Crucible on my home connection I just look at the networking thread and it changes my mind. I'm surprised this post even has any upvotes with how mean everyone is to people with bad internet on this site. There is nothing you can do and they don't give any more warnings after the first one. They also don't discuss bans or restrictions. I'm not trying to say they should let people with bad interenet play btw (of course they shouldn't). I'm just letting you know that if you keep playing without fixing your internet you will be banned permanently and you won't be able to play any more, ever again, even if you get a new ISP.

          • First is to make sure you're on a wired connection. If you've got that then it's either something about your console/PC, modem, or your internet singnal strength/stability

I've got fast internet and it doesn't matter. It's Bungie's servers. It takes me 5 seconds just to open and look at my "Pursuits" in the freaking Tower.

          • I put two clips into a guy the other day without doing any damage as he was skipping around. He shot me and I died, and then about 5 seconds later he died. He was a top guy on the other team. His bad connection literally changed the outcome of the match. No one wants to tell someone not to play PvP, but if you've got a red bar you impact the game for everyone else. Honestly, the best thing you can do is up your internet connection.

          • It’s a pretty easy solution, if you can’t fix your net connection then simply don’t play comp.

Edited : Wrong terminology used - ban vs suspended - so on and so forth. My mate got suspended from a Power outage. I have recently had internet problem, communication errors etc from my router to D2 servers. Also, lag is a thing. Want to grind comp so bad but I won't because of this.

            • Hey better internet or Stop playing crucible. There was a reason bu ng ie did this so it would route out most if not all the lag that is experienced during the game. For menu would report you just for for network manipulation if I saw you teleporting around wether you were doing on purpose or your internet sucked. It only takes one person with bad internet to ruin the game. As for me the o the trying be to ask bungie to make a server farm since they don't have one. Meaning when you are trying to play the game constantly switches every so often to where the game is feeding off of someone's internet connection. When it happens to me my shit is screwed so hard that it forces me out of the game because bungie has no servers. So all in all either don play PvP or blame bungie for there stupidity.
