Editado por recklessXRP: 9/3/2018 12:42:59 AMThey did it for the Taken King back in D1 and that was digital as well lol

and probably did nothing but cost them money. If you wait until midnight, you will have to take the gift code they give you, go home, buy it in MS/PS/Bliz store and then do the downloads OR you they can just give you the code a couple days early and you do it and will be set to play at the time the dlc releases. There is no need to do a midnight release for a code.

You need to take into account that the digital version of Destiny 2 Forsaken isn't the only one. There is also a physical Destiny 2: Forsaken Legendary Collection which is why a midnight release would be important to some.

the physical version contains only the d2 vanilla disc and codes, at least one of my clan members purchased it and walked out with it same day. In addition, even if it wasnt, the stores are probably going to look at the presale number of said physical copies and determine the cost vs return on a midnight release. My guess, is that not enough copies of that specific edition would be sold to justify the costs of a midnight release. Midnight releases are going to be fewer and farther between as there is really not much need for them any more. Digital and Online places like Amazon that get you the games before release day kind of killed the brick and mortar stores in general and for sure the need for them to pay their staff to be there in middle of night.

While some of what you said is actually true, I go over the reason why they didn’t do a midnight release for Forsaken in the video.
