My first time in the Strike in the PC Beta, I was matched in right at the end. While I've played it before, I can only imagine how disheartening that would be to a player who is playing it for the first time. They're missing so much.
Edit: To be clear, I mean just the first time. So, having some kind of permission in place so that players only can be matched in progress after finishing the Strike for their first time.

This is a good note. It's a bad experience to match into the boss fight before playing the Strike. I will let the team know. Thanks!
-
That's a valid point. However when you're grinding for loot it's nice to Join at the boss fight :]
-
This cuts both ways. Just played the strike again and both players bailed and I was solo for a bit until two new players eventually joined. You gotta fill out those in progress strikes/matches first and foremost. I do agree it sucks to be a newbie and get tossed right into a boss though. Then again it's not the worst thing when farming lol.
-
That would stink.
-
100% agree my first strike run in the beta on xbox I loaded in at the open pit mine I was a little dissapointed to find out the boss was around the corner
-
I was unaware that strikes are only playable once. I was also unaware that you can't join a fireteam to avoid this if it really rubs you the wrong way.
My first time in the Strike in the PC Beta, I was matched in right at the end.
On the console beta, this happened to me three times in a row. I never did see the first half of the strike.

But what if say, 2 people are struggling in the strike and need a 3rd? - And up pops Newbie Guardian - I'd rather see the end boss mechanics, and try beat it, & maybe even picking up a nice reward at the end .....learn for a full run another time! Everyone has to start somewhere! - Why not, y'know - help the newbie Only last week, on PS4, Myself and a pal started a strike, (Shield Brothers heroic) for a quest ....only to get matchmaker with a random... But it turns out the random was already at the bosses, and had been abandoned by his former strike mates (both quit, too hard)... We joined, persevered, killed them... He was happy that somehow fate put us there, he got his progress....I got mine
-
Oh crap! I started at the end of a strike and I can't back out and start matchmaking over again......oh wait...
-
Editado por RPColten: 8/29/2017 8:57:59 PMAgreed. I don't think I ever experienced something like this (strike wise) in Destiny so I can't say from experience, but first impressions are definitely something that can impact how willing a person may be to go through an activity again. Not to mention that the best experience is one that is taken from beginning to end. Where is the value in the end if there is no context to it? No idea how exactly this could be changed though. I guess special matchmaking parameters if the activity is marked as incomplete in the players log?
-
Why are you complaining? The strike is a boring slog and you got dropped it at the only part that matters, the end.
-
It's not as if they couldn't just....ya know....do it again....
-
Who cares. More important things to worry about.
-
Editado por Ahhsenberg: 8/29/2017 12:06:14 PM...really? It's not a Raid or a part of a story mission. It's a strike. Play it again. It's not like you're going to be missing anything incredibly important. There's more important things to worry about anyway.
-
Definately a good idea, and surely it would be easy for them to implement. They are already keeping track of what missions, etc that you have completed. So during the matchmaking setup (evaluating guardians) it would just check the database to see if you completed it, and if not, load into a fresh match, otherwise - take best match. if strikeXYZ != complete: loadstrike(freshmatch) else: loadstrike(bestmatch)
-
Actually that's a good idea. Strike done and over with
-
My first strike on Xbox, I was dropped in at the boss fight. So... yeah. That really sucked. I wouldn't complain normally but first time... yeah.
-
I definitely agree with this.
-
I joined in at Phogoth my first time playing Destiny and started yelling "HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THIS -blam!-ER" it was a good experience, 10/10 didn't mind going through the boring midparts.
-
Agreed.
-
While I do agree with your idea? Setting up a permanent lobby for a single usage, from a programming perspective, is a complicated task in and of itself. The entire reason you limit so many matchmaking "option setting" variables is because many of those have the potential to crash connections. This is going to be a long and complicated explanation, but what I would specifically recommend for a full game is exactly what Destiny already does: Minimal join in progress potential for the strike itself from the manager. Accessing the playlist is built in with JIP. That and new players would ideally react like most would: You are at the end of the strike, but you are not new to the world and it's mechanics. It's a mid level event after all, there is no strike you do before the first couple of missions. So? You're not finishing a short strike... your reinforcing a team of guardians who need assistance or could use additional damage potential.
-
I expect a lot canned make a fireteam answers to this
-
Yeah, would kind of suck I suppose.
-
But then you have the problem of someone leaving the strike and just because someone did that you have to go to orbit and find a new team by yourself and restart the strike almost all the time and people leaving is very common... I'm sure you do not want this
-
When your farming strikes in D2 your going to wish you get a late strike. If you want to start a strike from the beginning, form a fire team.
-
Hmmm, you can just launch into the strike again, Either straight away or wait till the end.
