It's nothing new. People abuse AFK for their own purposes. They don't have to do any work and have a small chance to get some really good loot. This isn't the first game or the last game that this will be an issue.
The problem is when this issues transfer over to more genuine AFKs to the point where people say you should leave the strike entirely if your even away for a min.
I was loading into a Strike and as I was loading in my sick gf woke up and requested hot tea. So I got up made it and came back. When I came back the strike and just started and the two players were punching me to the point where I fell of the ledge. A little annoyed I came back and just danced. They left shortly after.
Then I had people responding to my story saying I should've left or that my gf could've waited or make her own tea. Does the community really feel this way or is there no sensible people on the forums? Should I really leave an entire strike if I'm only gone for a min. And at the beginning no less.
Update: I realize this may not be common, but I don't use a kettle. I just take a simple mug of water and heat it in the microwave for 1:10 min. Throw in the bag, sugar, milk and done. Just to illustrate how quick this was and that I wasn't staring at a pot waiting to boil.
Update: I think there needs to be a clear difference between someone who afks for a min cause life happens and someone who puts their Guardian in a corner, goes to watch TV, and comes back to move their joystick every couple of min. Not the same thing, but reacted to in the same way.

Edited by Legit has one i: 1/20/2015 8:47:06 PMMy dog puked yesterday right when I started an ROC. I was on my sparrow and everything. So I take care of the mess and hear this "buleep" one of the randoms sent me a message saying I was an "afk piece of shit". So when I was finished with the dog gurp, I picked up my controller , ran into battle, randy message boy dies (lol) and I leave him there dead, battling the hive standing on his dead corpse and wait for him to revive himself. I then proceeded to end the strike with about 90 kills more that him. So I sent him a message back "I was giving you a head start". So pleased with myself. Sometimes, people have real issues, if the guy makes it into battle for the end of the strike, I'm always okay with that, at least he made an effort to catch up. If they actually stay afk the entire strike, there's nothing we can do about it at the moment.

As an Englishman I am quite frankly disgusted with your tea making method. If it was the beginning of a strike it wouldn't have hurt to back out- or if you were intent on staying a quick msg to the others saying you would brb
-
LMFAO I love how you're explaining how you make tea to these tards..
-
What do you expect your teammates to think? Is it fair that your personal affairs are asking for the time of strangers? Why is it that all afk'ers are afk at the beginning of the strike? Does this "life" thing that you all talk about just miraculously happen on the load screen every time? The real issue is that you, the afk'er, is attempting to perform "life" when you should just be playing a game. None of us are going to criticize you for going afk during patrol, but you've made a commitment to your teammates to play when you join a strike playlist. If I'm playing summoning pits and a person stops moving shortly after killing the Ogre midway through, I know that "life" has happened and I'm fine with being patient. Could you have told your girlfriend just a minute? Maybe finished the strike, and then made her tea? As unfair as it is for people to not be accepting of your girlfriends needs, it's equally unfair for you to do that to those people.

Do you man...if people go AFK i just keep going...my bad juju and obsidian mind get hungry ya dig ?
-
I tried to afk while my buddy did patrols so I could go get food and he could still get me rep and xp. I put a hair tie on the joy stick so I would continue to spin and spin. I came back from subway and it afkd me out. How he hell do people do this? Still haven't been able to figure it out. And btw I don't do this in strikes. My buddy agreed to do patrols for me while I went to get food

The two vaginas should have just two-manned it.
-
Milk though?
-
Should've left lol
-
if you are playing with randoms then it is kind of inconsiderate especially if you had to go before it even started however, if you are already a ways in to a strike and hafta go afk then at least the others know you aren't trying to be a dick if you are with friends then they should understand
-
People that don't get it simply don't have a life op. I have a wife, kids, etc so things sometimes happen. Shit happens. Life. Something might come up to pull you away for a sec.
unless you're a basement dwelling retard with nothing going on in his/her life
I understand AFK'ers and I don't really care. If it's the start of the strike, I can solo if I have to as long as they don't complain about me 'cheesing' so we don't fail. I usually find that most players come back within about 10 minutes anyways unless it's a few certain strikes (Nexus, Cerberus Vae, Dust Palace and Black garden to list a few.)

Don't try to find sensible people on the forums. You have a better chance of finding Mia Malkova at church.
-
You use a microwave to boil water? I never heard of that being done before, I think I'd return to my traditional kettle anyway. But, more importantly, people don't seem to realise that a lot of people need to go afk to go the toilet, open the door for someone, help the kids etc. especially at the start of strikes. Of course it can be annoying, even more so if you are struggling. Maybe it's just because I go afk now and then just to take care of something for a second that I'm a little more biased than others, but please, just consider all the reasons why others can be afk... If you're not happy, you can just leave and re-join (I know it's a pain but it can often help you save time by getting a faster completion in the end). See you starside Guardians.
-
I would say for both sides of the argument that its not a big deal unlesss it was a raid or a nightfall.
-
It takes ten seconds to hold Y and leave. If you leave, someone else who does have the time gets matchmade in. Damn right you should have left. Be more considerate. If your girlfriend is sick, spend more than sixty-five seconds with her.
-
You should have left or at least tried to get the others into fireteam chat first. You were thinking about yourself and your g/f, which was correct for you at that moment but you were not thinking about them and the larger AFK issue.
-
Let me first say no side is right. In a simple way to put it real over an finite game. Plus you could just join a new strike but don't dance cause it probly looked like taunting or "still gonna afk"
-
You don't use a kettle to make tea? You lazy bastard...
-
Oh, and especially at the beginning. You can pick up any strike at the beginning by starting again.
-
The man who caters to all, caters to none.
-
Don't worry bout them, who cares? I am sure your girl gives you more pleasure than this community!! To all the haters, if you need help to complete an lvl24 or 26 strike, then your the scrub!! Get over it and just play!!
-
did you know if you load into a strike and have to leave you can just switch character, so you piss off people less?
-
they could finally do something like boss loot so the final ultra drops extra glimmer/mats/purple engram or other at least a bit interesting things
-
Yea I'm sick of it and its getting more frequent. Didn't play the strike playlist all week because of it and ended up having a blast with iron banner instead
-
Remember dude, this game is rated T where most ppl that are on here are little shyt dirtbags that cant wipe theyre as2 I feel you man Do you and fuk the world
