You should have left or at least tried to get the others into fireteam chat first.
You were thinking about yourself and your g/f, which was correct for you at that moment but you were not thinking about them and the larger AFK issue.

.....again. The strike had just barely begun when I got back. Absolutely no progress was made and I was back to participate when I was knocked off.

Absolutely no progress was made because you left. You made two people wait, you wasted two people's time, but that didn't matter because they weren't you or anyone you care about, and so their time wasn't as valuable as yours. Societies work because people respond disproportionately to punish others who are acting antisocially. You didn't treat these guys fairly, because you didn't care about them. No wonder you got ostracised.

I agree, wasting A WHOLE MINUTE if their life? What a -blam!-ing asshole. Plus obviously 2 random dudes on an online game are way more important than family. The OP is exactly what's wrong with society, while you sir, should be immortalized as a saint and given the Nobel price until the end of times, I'm humbled to even talk to you, your grace.

If a min is that big a deal to you then you clearly aren't going to understand at all. Perhaps you don't have a gf or kids that can cause you to afk a min at a time. Therefore you can continue to talk with yourself.

Clearly you're right. I doubt I'll be able to get you to see other people as real people, because to you they're just not. To you, the people you know and care about are real people, and the people on the other end of the TV are just NPCs. If you were on the phone to your mother, you wouldn't just walk off (even for a minute), but because it's strangers you think it's fine.
