Read the statement from Pete Parsons.
Sony x Bungie assimilation is starting.
TFS sales apparently didn’t reach the number they needed to offset this from happening.
220 employees are being laid off.
Bungie’s future is in an even more precarious position that it was before Final Shape dropped.
This is a dark day, but I hope the future is brighter in Sony’s hands (I personally think it will be)

7 RepliesPete Parsons needs to step down and they need to cut the pay of the highest earners and keep these workers or they lost me completely. Sony's buying into Bungie was supposed to retain these employees. I absolutely refuse to continue supporting a company that continuously puts the high ups and shareholders ahead of their workers.

29 Repliesl been telling ya all along ,bungies increase in mechanics and difficulty only was good for the top 10% of players. but bungie doubled down on it and killed the game. streamers should of kept there yacking down for more difficulty it not only killed destiny it runs them out of a job.

1 ReplyThey had their chance. I think its good that Sony is finally taking over.

33 RepliesEdited by An Engram Full Of Bees: 7/31/2024 3:30:20 PMThis line from old man Pete pissed me off more than anything else
Let’s unpack how we ended up in this position; it’s important to understand how we got here.
We already know how we got in this position, Peter. Y’all prioritized a little extra money via your precious Eververse over a loyal and invested playerbase that has supported this franchise since its inception. That’s how we got here.

Bungie had to explain to Sony why Lightfall was such a failure, while its predecessor, the Witch Queen, was such a monumental success. Bungie didn’t do a good job. Furthermore, they claimed that they needed more time to polish The Final Shape to not repeat the same mistakes as Lightfall. Sony, being reasonable, gave them the extension they asked for, in return for cancelling all prior preorders. Hence, the refund controversy. Fast forward to two weeks into the release of TFS, Bungie was notified that their numbers did not exceed the sales expectations that they agreed to with Sony. Today: everyone with a surprise Pikachu face… Bungie hates their player community. If that isn’t blatantly obvious by now, then you have probably never complained about the state of the game, welcomed every nerf ever implemented, and followed every streamer ever that is seething right now because their partnership with Bungie is on life support. This was a long time coming. This will be a better change for the franchise overall. Unlike Bungie, Sony has a consistent track record for listening to their player community. Destiny 2 is severely outdated, but that isn’t going to keep Sony from polishing this franchise as one of its flagship titles. Destiny 3 will probably take some time to make from the ground up with a new engine, which is why it will also make for a great launch title for next-gen systems, but as a Destiny 1 Alpha player, I can definitely tell you that it’ll be worth it. Over the years, we have seen a lot of changes to this beloved franchise. Some even wonder what’ll be the next Destiny-killer app. Look around, do you still see a fan base as dedicated as us? Some of us started this journey a while ago, and we intend on seeing where it takes us regardless of whoever is at the helm. I’m certain I have well over 10,000 hours logged in for both Destiny 1 & 2 combined, that’s because I honestly fell in love with the game universe, even if I didn’t agree with the direction it’s going to at times. Destiny 1 had a certain charm that Destiny 2 couldn’t replicate. I’m hoping that Sony can bring back by starting again from the ground up. -

Huh... for all the people who always said "well, just leave then. Stop playing the game if you don't like something about it." Hmmmm....

3 RepliesIt will all end with Marathon. That’s when the rest of the Vice Presidents collect their bonuses. They may keep Bungie as a token studio in name only but it’s already over. Bungie don’t have big plans anymore - they are running a skeleton crew until marathon comes out. Sony takes the top dev talent. Bungie leaders take their bonuses. Sony sells the Destiny assets to Microsoft. Destiny is over.

12 RepliesI was looking forward to it. Sony was already largely dominating the BoD. Sony and Bungie means more synergies, access to better technology and support. It’s not like Sony is selling bread. I don’t see much downside to it.

Pretty sure we all knew this was gonna happen. Let’s see where it goes

We could've already been hearing about Destiny 3 alpha, but nay, Bungie wanted to waste millions & bleed talent away on a hero shooter, 🤦♂️. Neglecting their golden goose & then letting go of the people who could've been working on D2 is just, shady business.

I just hope the layoffs include the "social conscience" at Bungie. I might be willing to learn all the aspects and other stuff necessary to complete basic "tasks" if I weren't confronted with the thing that will get my post deleted (as it has been several times before) If I say it. I don't want to "train" to play Destiny, I want to shoot aliens.

Good Bungies piss poor management caused this. Hopefully at some point Parsons gets the axe too. I do feel sorry for all the hardworking programmers, artists, musicians etc. Who aren't to blame for this mess but are suffering because of it.
-
Just drop marathon from production and give us Destiny 3 ahead of time. The Alpha testing with all the big streamers was so horrible they didnt put anything out afterwards because of how bad the people they had come in stated the game was.

3 RepliesCEO Parsons cutting jobs but still buying 20 classic cars for million$ is the problem. He needs to cut his own pay before laying people off for the good of the company. Besides, he is useless and doesn't deserve a dime anyway.
