Bungie had to explain to Sony why Lightfall was such a failure, while its predecessor, the Witch Queen, was such a monumental success. Bungie didn’t do a good job. Furthermore, they claimed that they needed more time to polish The Final Shape to not repeat the same mistakes as Lightfall. Sony, being reasonable, gave them the extension they asked for, in return for cancelling all prior preorders. Hence, the refund controversy. Fast forward to two weeks into the release of TFS, Bungie was notified that their numbers did not exceed the sales expectations that they agreed to with Sony.
Today: everyone with a surprise Pikachu face…
Bungie hates their player community. If that isn’t blatantly obvious by now, then you have probably never complained about the state of the game, welcomed every nerf ever implemented, and followed every streamer ever that is seething right now because their partnership with Bungie is on life support.
This was a long time coming. This will be a better change for the franchise overall. Unlike Bungie, Sony has a consistent track record for listening to their player community. Destiny 2 is severely outdated, but that isn’t going to keep Sony from polishing this franchise as one of its flagship titles. Destiny 3 will probably take some time to make from the ground up with a new engine, which is why it will also make for a great launch title for next-gen systems, but as a Destiny 1 Alpha player, I can definitely tell you that it’ll be worth it.
Over the years, we have seen a lot of changes to this beloved franchise. Some even wonder what’ll be the next Destiny-killer app. Look around, do you still see a fan base as dedicated as us? Some of us started this journey a while ago, and we intend on seeing where it takes us regardless of whoever is at the helm. I’m certain I have well over 10,000 hours logged in for both Destiny 1 & 2 combined, that’s because I honestly fell in love with the game universe, even if I didn’t agree with the direction it’s going to at times. Destiny 1 had a certain charm that Destiny 2 couldn’t replicate. I’m hoping that Sony can bring back by starting again from the ground up.

I just re read your comment and I think the charm part has returned a tad. The D1 charm was its mystery, space odyssey vibe. It was necessary linear and that was fun. Mainly because Bungie doesn’t do congruent story well. But D2 has come a very long way. It will never be D1 because that was a very niche game compared to what they want D2 to be. There is absolutely an immersion for new D2 players. It’s just lost on us

My sentiments exactly. It might seem like a terrible thing to say but the franchise needed a restart sooner. -
I hate seeing people get laid off, but I love watching the cringe reactions from every Destiny streamer with all the over the top hand wringing as they milk the layoffs for multiple videos crying about how bad it is. They talk about how emotional it is, how sad they are, and I'm over here like...y'all acting like a game company is your best friend...some of them are way too invested and have no plan if their bread isn't getting buttered by Bungie anymore.

Of course they don’t. It’s streaming man. Like sub 5% of streamers make a non mom’s basement wage off streaming. Lots of the non big variety streamers are pros in their games and stream as a supplement
