This is the probably the lamest subclass tree I have ever seen in an RPG!

Yep.

Nah.

I don't care.

Destiny 2's subclass tree is the probably the lamest subclass tree I have ever seen in an RPG! Like there is lack of perks and there are no mixmatching. IT IS LITTERALLY ONLY TWO CHOICES ON HOW TO PLAY! According to Bungie, they said they made it appeal to casual audiance as one of them were hurt that they were doing it wrong in D1 and by adding this kind of tree, there is no effing it up. edit: What a baby. Like serously Bungie, the D1 subclass tree was not very hard to figure it out, you look at perks you think are trash and not select them. I mean its not like other RPGs where if you have to make choices on what perks to take when you level up. However, in Destiny 1 when you level up, you automatically get perks like snake from left to right! Ironically in Destiny 1, when you level up, you can select what perks you want depending on what level you are with points, but the amount is so underwhelming that you can get all of them with almost no sweat. Please Bungie, please update Destiny 2's subclass tree to have mixmatching or more perks, or maybe even overhaul it!

  • Yeah an overhaul would be nice, i want to see about 6 grenade types on each class’s subclass, and more good choices for each ability, i want a spreadsheet style like we had in D1, the two choices is really boring and too simple.

    • Also, I dont like the fact that there is only one super option. The only double action super is sentinel and ward of dawn, and we all know how that turned out to be. The eating grenades from the voidlock class is something really neat. It gives a double option for it. But why did they stop there? I really dont get it. I was expecting that the harnessing of the travelers light could be used in different ways. But instead we are all stuck with the same things: - Throw a bomb, hammer - Fist of havoc is always roaming - Dawnblade is always shooting flames And others BORING!!! Been there, done that. Why do they at Bungie have so little imagination?! Maybe it was because they were aiming at the casuals, maybe something else. They limited themselves in options when the idiot who introduced these skillcherries came along. I would have really liked to be able to use multiple abilities at the cost of super energy. In fact I will name some ideas of my own creation, which are actually not hard to implement:

      • Destiny subclasses had 6561 combinations. D2 has 36. Sums up the entire game and level of fun thereof.

        • Bungie made a lot of strange, confusing, head-scratching, "how could professional game developers be so STUPID" mistakes when they developed Destiny 2. That was one of them.

Started a new topic: Each planet should get their own original subclass orbital and upgrades to their skill branches or factions.

        • besides adding more skills to the tree and forms, i would like more backgrounds and sound effects to match the players personal style, say am a hunter with a crystal-class of void trapper, the upper path could show different pictures, previews and perhaps maybe some day give us some new HUD(s). My ideas for the subclass-tree system would include a new branch that allows the players to choose what yupemelee, new melee attacks 4 of them, the players would get to select their favorite kicks and punches packing additional effects, its in the game as a ppack already but i find my arc strider lacking. They should be able to use the staff without the super sparking/arcing effectively, like a metal rod for blocking and some stun batons or knight stick for close range melee.

            • I mean, it's not even a tree; you just pick your pre-built spec and that's it. I wouldn't really mind if all the sub-class specs felt like they had some kind of powerful synergy between their perks. Some of them do, like Voidwalker's Attunments of Chaos and Hunger both feel like they promote a kind of rotation that offer dramatically different but viable ways to play. But then you look at Stormcaller, and while all those perks seem useful, they don't really work together in a way that's makes your Guardian feel terribly different. Dawnbreaker's Attunment of Sky offers good synergy and rewards a unique play style, but Attunment of Flame just feels like a handful of random buffs. In D1, I could setup my own spec, which pretty much meant I played each sub-class one way, and ultimately wasn't much different than the system they have now. But, by having more options I could make sure all the subclasses used perks that felt reasonably complimentary. I'm good if Bungie sticks to the current system, but I think they need to rework several of the sub-classes so that their perks all feel meaningful and contribute a play style that isn't just Guns and Random Buffs.

            • They stripped the RPG mechanics almost entirely in the transition from d1-D2. Destiny 2 is all about transforming the series into legacy Halo gameplay.

            • In almost everything D2 has been a disaster. I don't know why they removed everything from D1 what people liked. Hardly any subclass choice, no more random rolls, no more choice in PvP mode, a bizarre token system that gives you ZERO impact on what weapons you will get.

              • Skill tree? What Skill tree? Oh, you mean the Kid friendly/Idiot proof (read: Mark Noseworthy) choices. Boring as Phook. Don't expect an expanded Skill tree anytime soon because what was once a Subclass Perk is now an Exotic Perk. I thought the 'T-rating' meant Teenager, not Toddler.

                • to my perception, it really seems like one class is more pve oriented, while the other is for pvp. I could be wrong, but thats how I have noticed it generally tends to be.

                • I still scratch my head over the decisions that were made when moving over into Destiny 2. I know they wanted to streamline the development process in order to make content faster/easier to balance, but taking away choice and playstyles is not the way to do it. Static gun perks, limited skill tree, getting rid of INT/STR/DIS so that cooldowns could be controlled, all of this was changed to make it easier to balance and easier to understand for new players. Bungie really went all-in when they wanted to attract new/casual players for Destiny 2 even though the hardcore players are the ones that kept this game alive and hyped. I hope that the next expansion brings us either new subclass trees, mix and match subclass perks or some other new system that compliments the changes coming in the summer. I think Destiny still has identity issues. The original D1 developers couldn't decide if the game was going to be an MMO or an RPG. I still think that issue hangs in the air to this day. Either way the fixes they are implementing so far are great and hopefully, once we get to subclasses, they will address them accordingly.

                • More like a skill brick with two Legos stuck together. This whole game is exactly like that though. It's like somebody asking you if you wanted to see a Star Wars movie and then they end up putting on some crap Netflix Star Wars Lego series or some s***. You just have to say what the hell is this crap, this isn't my Star Wars, this is for children, and not even smart ones at that.

                  • Destiny 2 is NOT an RPG. I know we wanted it to be an RPG, but its just not that type of game. Its just a shooter, guys.... So, while I agree that the skill tree is empty and pointless, if you realized ahead of time that you were not playing an RPG, you'd not be that disapointed.

Okay kids, the next time I compare Destiny to a MMORPG, and people say it isn't either massive or a RPG, I'm gonna remember this thread where people are talking about how it's really an RPG. You have been warned.
