To start I have to say that Destiny is a really, really pretty game. It looks for all intents and purposes fantastic. However the environment/world so far has been boring, extremely boring. Environment The maps and environments the players play in are seriously sterile and lifeless, the player can’t interact with it on any level whatsoever and nothing changes no matter how much time has passed or what happens. The best example of this is where you can see the Fallen and the Hive duking it out in the areas of the Cosmodrone. Sure they are fighting each other, in the same places however they do nothing else but give us something to shoot. You don’t see which side wins, there aren’t corpses littered around, you don’t see them disposing (or absorbing) their dead and because no one ever wins there are no effects on the environment. Imagine the Fallen cleansing the area of the hive presence when they win while observing the toxic effect the hive previously had on the environment retreat as the Fallen become more present in the tunnels and set up a serious base of operations. Only to have the hive emerge from right underneath them in a surprise assault which defeats/displaces the fallen and watch the environment undergo another shift where the barnacles and green miasma of the Hive spread into buildings and the general area. Instead we have a few units that run out and shoot each other over and over again where we could have a wonderful, interesting and intricate cycle. Also there is legitimately nothing to find in the environment except a chest or ghost here or there (and spinmetal) players should be able to scavenge things from dead guardians (not PCs), old supply caches, supplies guarded by enemies etc. There is none of that to be found here which makes adventuring/ killing never ending re-spawned AI’s unrewarding. Scavenging in this setting makes sense and for gameplay it fits in for exchange and glimmer purposes. [spoiler]The use of only one unchanging map “for everything” should not occur. Ever. I really do hope we come back to earth and unlock even more areas to enjoy so we have some variety but for now we have been in the same map for many separate missions (and raid of sorts) going in slightly different directions each time. All of these missions should have really been clumped together namely finding the ship and the warp drive and finding the hive then activating the array. This would help improve player interest in going back to these areas.[/spoiler] Lifeless The NPC’s in this game are glorified vending machines or seemingly do nothing at all. They have exceedingly little substance with only a fragment of personality given in their dialogue, I have no reason to care about the various groups that have vendors in the game or their views as their missions consist of two sentences in free mode that involve collecting or killing things that have no impact on their dialogue, actions or environment. What you do is folded out of existence never to be heard again until you repeat that same mission [spoiler]and considering we just came back from the dead this is the perfect opportunity to allow the player to ask questions or inform us of these things while interacting with characters we will be seeing often.[/spoiler] Your enemies have no purpose whatsoever. They stand around, looking around places for no reason and then defend them to the death like they are somehow important (none of them actually run away or escape). Killing on sight is ok for some but the Fallen are a hit and run race that are supposed to utilise agility to fight yet they stand out in the open most of the time and are not agile in any sense of the word (they can also scale walls really well but I have yet to see that actually implemented in their AI). All in all these reasons kill any intention of going back to explore because you already know exactly what it will be like and know that it hasn't changed since you last saw it.

  • I didn't read what you wrote but I agree there needs to be more happening like you fly in on a space ship that's noticeable why are the enimes attacking us in mass groups you'd think they would see us there has to be patrols and little bunker type bases that we can attack and capture like a mini raid but in explore mode and highest level item you can get from it is the middle tier

    • Yeah, perhaps if there were lore-related collectibles around? Or even gear? Loot crates seem to be RARE.

      • I would be very surprised if this isn't the final product, Beta is used here just for PR. I mean we are just about a month away from launch lol. I wouldn't even call the the Alpha a true Beta.

        • OP... I agree that the explore environment needs a bit more content and the random spawning of enemy is a must to mix things up. Don't get me wrong...the beta grabbed my attention for quite sometime given the amount of content available and has me wanting more. But, if the Captain and his minions always spawn at the same entrance (ya'll know were I am talking) that could get a bit redundent. Seeing how it was a beta...curious if some of the elements you addressed were left out intentionally.

          • What was the other game you were comparing Destiny too? It was Star Citizen and some game with "Black" in the title. I wanted to look it up, but forgot the name after I looked up Star Citizen. Which looks awesome BTW. Thanks for mentioning that, because I would have never heard of it considering I don't play on PC.

              I want to help Bungie! :) Hey, um, dude who wrote this, I didn't see a lot of solutions to the problems, just like, mostly all the faults, but if they are going to fix stuff they need to know what to fix it with. Right? I want to help fix it! :D Yeah! Environment Fixes: I think if some NPCs were to be roaming around, or "fixing stuff" Just like you know, banging stuff with a hammer really, if there was a Guardian ground camp, or NPCs who had quest and stuff like that, I bet that would make it seem a lot less lifeless, and all your programmers would have to do is take some of those robot npcs and some different random armors stick it on models and slap them into the maps with some text to do it. Lifeless Fixes: Well, yeah the NPCs were kinda serious, so you can fix that easy too, give them some jokes, make them interact with other NPCs, give them little romances or stories, have other NPC dudes just wander around and give advice and stuff, it doesn't take much, and again this won't cause a budget headache to fix. Enemies Fixes: Well... they are evil aliens and robot dudes and some bug alien robot dudes....so I don't think they really would do all this reacting this guy would say, but you could again, use what you already have programmed and just make the ships drop them off in random spots, so it's like Oh noes they are invading, but really it's just a randomized thing, so they don't appear in the same places over and over, and the NPC dudes can be like "Oh no robot alien bug guys!!!", and run away and stuff. Won't take too long to do, and it would solve that as well. Whelp, I'm no genius of video games, but I hope my suggestions helped out and lead you into the right direction Bungie.               • I think they can only do so much when it comes to releasing a game on time. The game actually needs 40gb to even play it. That, my friend, is a huge game! Considering they have Strikes, Explore, Story, Crucible, and Raids, along with 4 planets to explore.. I can see where they had to draw lines. I mean, they couldn't add everything. If they had added what you had said, some people would've wanted wildlife animals (some already do). Then, I mean, why don't we have lightning storms? Where are the bugs? I mean, come on, roaches would've lived! Why do guardians and NPCs not eat? Do people not eat in the future? Where are the books laying around the Cosmodrone that I can read for lore and what not (while a cool addition, think Skyrim, I get why it's not there)? I'm happy with Destiny from what I've seen so far. Keep in mind, this is only the beginning. It's a far from finished product, and it's got a lot of wiggle room to grow and evolve. I'd rather have what I have now than ask them to delay it to add even more stuff. If you're talking about post launch, sure, whatever! But these are very minor grievances when it comes to the game as whole. For it to work as smoothly as it did in beta form was impressive to me!

                • I agree. The enemies oly purpose is to be shot. Nothing is known about them. They have no motivation. They say nothing. The environment tells no story about what was before. There are no signs of individuality or identity.

                        I think one of the main issues is we were given one of the most boring places in the game. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/66519312/0/0/1 Look at that thread. The Black Garden. Mumbai Push.The Reef. Cassini. All sound like good places to explore. But what do we GET for the beta? A lifeless husk and rusting buildings. We got the most boring part of Destiny and it hurts it to a degree. Having said that, I agree with this thread. All the cool looking places in the world will not make a difference if the place itself is lifeless.

                        • I hope Bungie sees this. Destiny is a -blam!-in great game but it is lifeless and the never ending spawns in the same places with troops that do the same thing over and over... Can just hope the full game has more to offer.

                            It looks nice, but some more moving parts and interactivity would really do alot to make it feel like a living breathing world. But that's a destiny 2 or expansion problem.

                              I don't really have a problem with the Vendors, WoW is the same way. If there are important interactions or plot elements that involve them I assume they'll be in a cinematic. As far as the rest, I'm going to reserve judgement until the full release.

                                • I see what you mean. Having game environments change as they're played is something that not many, (if at all) games have done. It would be great and different if done right. However it was only the alpha and the beta. We only got very small snippets of gameplay. The version coming out on 9/9 is only the beginning. They will take player feedback as well as there own ideas and try to implement into the game. Destiny is in no way finished. keep this going like the Planetary Events one does and you'll get it looked at.

                                  • I completely agree. PvP is great but a huge portion of Destiny fans want more reason to explore in a more immersive world. I truly believe that a high caliber studio such as Bungie can tweak there world to accommodate what the OP has pointed out. I know I personally feel Bungie stands on the cusp of something amazing. I will be playing on launchday and I'm sure that eventually and with enough player request, Bungie will give us a truly epic game that caters to many player styles.

                                      • I agree completely especially since Bungie said this is supposedly a revolutionary new generation of RPG's but theres not a single new or similiarly amazing thing about it much less how they said its suppose to be massive and ever changing and full of life and all I see are damn birds whoa so full of life

                                        • We need to see changes made, so far it's a dead game. Not impressed by anything I've seen so far, even the character creation is dull. No facial hair for males either? Gravity on the moon is completely laughable! And no wildlife besides background birds, such a boring game

                                          • I do agree somewhat i have seen several post about adding wildlife and such and it would be a nice touch but its not absolutely a necessity. First and for most i believe it is part of the story that most wildlife was destroyed in the war against the darkness leaving the world bairn. So it kinda is just part of the story that has to be in the game.Secondly in the full game there will be countless more things to do.story missions ,side missions,raids ,strikes, and just more places to explore in general. It won't be like the beta where you had to visit the same places over and over.so i think you will notice it much less when you have more to do making it less of a necessity.
