Are Bungies AntiCheat Countermeasures Working?

Yes, fine as is.

No, needs to go a step further.

Ban People who the the community posts a video of who are blatantly cheating.

I think the post stands for itself. I feel as if the system in place isn't enough but that's just me. How does everyone else feel?

If they really cared about their legitimate customers, they wouldn't have subscribed to P2P for PvP. They absolutely knew this was going to happen going into it and making this decision. They were willing to forage ahead with P2P and sacrifice their customers experience to maximize profits. It's both indisputable and indefensible.

    • Cheating is comprising a far to large group of players in destiny. For whatever reasons rng, because they can, spite, little time. The effect is the same. It sux for the rest of us. I might be more inclined to trust bungie was serious about bans if they gave us weekly stats on how many people were banned, how many repeat offenders and the lengths of those bans. Honestly is it that big a deal to be banned a week or two for the rewards you get from going flawless in trials?

They aren't even trying, guy on the top of the kd leaderboard in trials is cheating without any doubt. 22 kd, 90% win rate, 6 deaths in 271 games most games finished with a player getting kicked from the other side. They are not even trying.

          • Here's what I think their progressive discipline should be: First offense = 1 month ban Second = all gear removed from inventory/vault and characters reduced to Lvl 0. You start from scratch. Third = permanent ban in PVP Now I don't play enough PVP to really matter in this argument but the few times I've played against somebody cheating it really took the fun out of it. Especially if I when doing the crucible portion of the Thorn and Invective bounties!

              • It should be stricter, strike 1 is a warning, strike 2 is a one week ban, and strike 3 is a permanent console ban. If that's too strict then maybe the console ban can be taken off by making the cheater post a video on YouTube of then confessing to everyone that they were cheating and apologize to everyone and then they have to send the link to Bungie to take off the console ban.

              • Bungie needs to lay down the hammer on cheaters. It is painfully obvious if you want to question whether or not you are cheating. In ancient Mesopatamia, if you broke Hammurabis code, you were practically tortured. The same should go for a video game.

                • You should be perma banned until you make a public apology video detailing what you did and why, upload it to YouTube to be properly shamed, and send it to bungie for consideration whether they should remove the ban or not. That seems fair.

                  • Probably needs to be stricter, but it's hard to tell what is real cheating and what is system lag. Destiny has had issues with pvp lag since the beginning. I guess to find lag switchers, you'd have to review when the lag occurred in games. Theater mode would allow the community to help with this. I remember a match in reach where someone used a lag switch to double spawn the beam rifle. It was pretty clear what was done to. Had 2 rush for the beam. The 1st picked it up and ran off. The other waiting about 5s then the game lagged for reconnect and he picked up the newly spawned beam rifle. The trouble with this will closely looking for patterns of lag that occur at opportune times. What they could do to stop this would be causing lagging connections to freeze in place or if the game lags across then freeze the game until it is stable. I think CoD uses the game freeze method. The only downside to this would be it being very punishing to players or teams who have someone with below average Internet. I suspect the current system to set to balance across all connection speeds to try not to give advantages based on internet speed. While this would seem somewhat fair, it also decreases the player experience. I've played on a bad connection before and it produces the same results as when you are the good connection playing against the bad. Bullets don't hit or they kill you way after you kill them. But regardless, things need to be improved.

                  • I believe that if you are caught cheating and it can be proven beyond any real doubt then you should be perma banned. These one week bans are too weak. Punishments must be far more severe than the satisfaction that can be gained from cheating. That is how you keep people from breaking the rules. As it stands now people will continue to cheat until more severe punishments are enacted

                    • All of these cheaters or at least most have been on PSN which is really PSN's fault due to my knowledge of what I've heard about the MTU if I'm correct. But either way, it's still an issue and must be dealt with

The reality is that most "reports" are not dealt with. I don't if this is because there are so many, or Bungie only does lip service. For instance, about two months or so ago I played Clash with a bunch of randoms. There was an opponent, went like 50 kills, couple deaths. That is not bad, some REALLY good players can do this every so often. The problem: I shot a rocket directly at his feet, it explodes, (no damage) he then jumps up, like he was a half second behind what was happening on my end. We all had green pings. Huh...OK, whatever, I guess it happens. I shoot him with GG, nothing happens. So once the match was over I sent message to team asking what their impression was. All respondents said the same: he acted like he could "see" the future or something, or they were a step behind the action. We reported him. So I kept track of him for a few weeks, he went from a 1.5 K/D couple months ago to 2..22 overall, with over a 3 in the last month. In competitive modes (IB and ToO) most games they have a K/D over 5, with many over 10. Still plays, no bans. Maybe he isn't cheating, obviously I can't PROVE it. However, the evidence sure seemed like it. This isn't the only instance, I have out of curiosity started tracking players that seemed like cheaters. I've seen none of them banned. This leaves only two conclusions: They can't/won't deal with cheaters OR the P2P model/coding is terrible that in many matches it seems like players are cheating who aren't. Neither conclusion is very heart warming.
