Strike-specific loot drop rate bug

Since Empty Vessel was added into the game, I have made it a point to grind for a good Truthteller replacement. Empty Vessel is a Vanguard-specific drop from strikes. Third Axiom (pulse rifle), Royal Entry (Rocket Launcher), and Xenoclast (shotgun) are also in this unique pool of strike weapons. Like those who hunted for a good Bottom Dollar last season, I felt that the drop rate for Empty Vessel [i]seemed[/i] low and made a "hot take" post on the topic [url]https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/259104983?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1[/url]. Anecdotally, it felt like it was less common to get a strike-specific weapon than it was to get a Crucible-specific weapon. Alas, I didn't have any numbers. So, I restarted the grind and have done nothing but strikes to figure out some drop rates. My method was to always run the Vanguard Prosperity ghost mod (since most people do anyways), reset and re-login after every 5 strikes (to prevent any systematic host/activity/world server issues), and [b]always skip The Corrupted strike[/b] (because I am not a masochist). Disclaimer: I know that the prosperity mod could potentially effect these drop rates, but the mod rarely procs as it is and since usage of the mod is somewhat ubiquitous, I decided to keep it on. Here is a [url=https://i.imgur.com/nM8eB0v.png]Drop rate table[/url] with my "findings". To define some of the language in the table: "blues only" reflects the tally of end-of-strike chests rewarding only blue engrams. In total, these are the observed drop rates from 100 successful strikes. It appears that there is almost a 50/50 chance that you will only get blues from the strike chest (48%). Furthermore, strike-specific loot collectively has a 41% chance to drop, with Empty Vessel (the newest of the strike weapons) dropping at 21%. This means an Empty Vessel should drop 1 out of every 5 strikes. The least common drop is Xenoclast (lightweight arc shotgun) at 3%. While I do not have the same numbers for the Crucible, I have far more Crucible-weapons (Frozen Orbit, Survivor's Epitaph, and The Keening) than strike weapons. And, this is where I think the "bug" is: I believe strike weapons are in the same loot pool as World Loot following a strike and/or blues only drop rate is too high. I will happily grind for a rare weapon that has a small perk pool. I will also happily grind for a common weapon that has a large perk pool. However, these weapons are comparatively rare [b]and[/b] have a gigantic perk pool. Please look into this! Edit: It took me 677 strikes this season alone to get my "god roll" of Empty Vessel. For those that are curious, my "god roll" required Blinding Grenades, Auto-loading Holster, and Disruption Break. Mine came with Volatile Launch and a Velocity Masterwork. While this grind absolutely sucked, and no "normal" or even "crazy" player would likely grind like this, I am glad I was finally able to get it before drop rates were reduced.

  • Your level of detail is great. Unfortunately, this is pure RNG. Light.gg, for instance, shows that over 85% of its users have the gun, indicating that it drops with some regularity. Will it drop always? No, or should it. The best thing you can do is keep running strikes and making sure you've got the Vanguard Prosperity ghost mod equipped.

    • Outstanding level of detail! This is something I know has been bother me in my gut but I couldn't put the numbers to it! I wonder if this impacted players last season as well... I only landed 2-3 Royal Entries and my first one dropped within the last few weeks of the season. I am REALLY excited about Empty Vessel (looking for that Blinding + Autoloading Holster + Disruption Break) but the data and findings you shared makes me ENTIRELY uninterested in attempting to grind one out. What's the point in activity-specific loot if it has a relatively low roll when playing that activity?
