  • Hitscan snipers work in some games, like overwatch, but they do not work in destiny. What’s your point?

  • Sigh. In halo descoping while being shot was fine because you could still reasonably hit a shot while scoped, all scoping in did was increase the range at which you could kill from. But when hip firing you were still perfectly accurate and you had a reticle, the exact same one that was in your scope. Halo also had no aiming down sights, you instead would scope in and out which had no animation and was instant. Halo was also infinitely slower than Destiny in terms of movement speed, so lining up a no scope was very doable. In destiny, -Aiming down sights with a sniper is the only way to have a reticle and be accurate. If you hip fire you have no reticle and there is a cone of randomness the size of about half your screen in which the bullet can land -There is an animation to aim down sights and leave your scope. For one specific rolled sniper, the snapshot quickdraw beloved, it is very fast and would MAYBE work if you were descoped on hit. For literally every other sniper it is way too slow to aim in and out “So make hip firing 100% accurate and give it a reticle and give every sniper the handling to instantly scope in and out with no animation” The game would have an identity crisis. Destiny’s shooting mechanics at their core have always been somewhat akin to call of duty; you are inaccurate while hip firing and bullets land in a random cone so you have to aim down sights with your weapon to be precise. Aiming down sights has a short, fluid motion that can be quickened with various builds. So if you just take snipers specifically and throw all of that out the window giving them perfect hip fire accuracy and instant scope in/out, it would be like you aren’t playing destiny anymore just when sniping. It would just be very strange and feel wrong. It might work, balance wise it could fix the problem, but it would be an unhealthy solution. I very much doubt it would be well received and I think there are much better solutions.

  • I can’t think of a better solution here. At the moment, trials is just snipers, and if you miss a shot, then it’s just “oh let me fire another out of my 900rpm rail cannon” and you hit a body shot but then your opponent is at 1hp to get finished by your primary or your teammates. Snipers need an rpm nerf, but otherwise maybe they need an ads nerf too, since a non snapshot sniper in D2 is faster than a snapshot sniper in D1 and it makes snipers able to be used at close range

    While a great idea for PvP! Because bungie decided not to separate the sand boxes they cant make this change with out it having dire consequences on PvE. Not saying its not a great idea but bungies own shortsightedness nix'ed this idea. Maybe on critical/head shots they de-scope? Granted I doubt their technical ability to do this but it should at least be viable. If half of what I hear is true about their code... dear god man...
