They should expire. I was against it in D1 initially I must admit. Leaving my Vision of Confluence and Mythoclast behind, and my Gjallarhorn! seemed seismic at the time. But I found new guns to love, and new grinds to chase and it did inject more life and playability for me. So many good guns came after that. Chasing Grasp of Malok and Hawksaw rolls and discovering I actually liked pulse rifles now. And I could always use my forgotton guns in the Crucible where light level didn't matter if I really wanted to fire them. I did do that, but not as often as I thought I would. I suppose, judging by most comments here and other places that I'm a very small minority. I'm all for blowing up the vault again and resetting everything back to zero for a D3. I was more than happy with my first guns, but when I consider not retiring any guns ever, would I still be running around the Destiny 2 sandbox with my original Mythoclast as as part of my main loadout right now? I honestly don't know. But I imagine the journey to where I am today would be a lot less varied and a lot less fun. That's the real buzz for me, the part that appeals to my collector trip is everybody getting their tits out over the latest nut-job broken god roll. Threads and Youtube going off on farming tips and competative rolls. And when I think about the Myhtoclast as an example, stupidly OP and hard to obtain...something like that has to have an expiry date. You could suggest, nerfing (i know it was nerfed) or create a similair weapon to compete, but that cheapens the original and sours the fantasy and takes away from earning it. Not Forgotten, Luna etc, even the notoriously completely busted Erentil all deserve their time in the sun, but nothing that bright can shine forever as they say, so let them pass into legend, and lets get back to the grind.

 • I don’t need Bungie dictating when I put a weapon down. I can make that decision all by myself. This season alone I found multiple Patron of lost causes rolls that replaced most scouts in my arsenal. Why, because it felt great. I have a nice rolled Steelfeather now added to my arsenal, where previously I did not use an auto rifle that was non-exotic since D2Y1 Uriel’s. I test rolls on a regular basis. If I like the feel, they get extensive testing to see if they are worth adding to my arsenal. I’m very monotonous with this. I’m especially thorough with new weapons released. As I’m always looking to find things I enjoy the feel of. I love midnight coup, just like the next guy, but I have not used it much since forsaken because it cannot get mods I need for specific tasks. I have multiple HCs that have replaced it for various tasks. Do I keep its light level up? Yes, because sometimes I like to use it in some light leveled activities that do not require specific perks or just for the halibut. But that choice should be on me, not some damn company who wants to dictate my loadout choices for me.

 • I'm not saying you or anybody else is wrong if they disagree with my opinion. It's just that, an opinion - a point if view. If you read the conversation between me and Ambrosius properly, I admit that I don't know what the ultimate fix is.

 • I read it after my post. I think your kobayashi maru statement (been a long time since I saw that, lol) is a fairly good example. Things need to change, but I whole heartedly think this is the wrong choice.

 • As for how weapon nerfs and adjustments compare to total obsolescence, in the context of endgame activities... I’d rather be able to compete in Trials with a weaker version of a weapon with the same feel, and not be forced to use something new. If there are new weapons that are about the same level of competitive and fun, that can stand on their own merits when I see how they feel in my hands, then I’m gonna be motivated to play, to grind them out, and at least try them, too! Surely I’m not in the minority there, right...? Not enough to make the total player investment statistics go down, anyway. They’re still going up, if I’m not much mistaken. Bungie is profitable, and the user base is still growing. There doesn’t seem to be enough financial benefit here to justify the cost to player satisfaction from taking away options.

 • Y'know, after everything I said, now you said that, I would absolutely still have my Doctrine of Passing in my load out right now today haha! I suppose I see the good in both and just try to have fun with what the game throws at me.

 • That’s all totally fair! In fact, I could even see a world where I wouldn’t care at all about a power level cap being instituted, as long as there were activities where I could use the old guns... but it’s a world where power level doesn’t matter in Iron Banner and Trials, which I don’t think is likely to happen.

 • Agreed sir. For me it's the kobayashi maru. Banana and Trials are outliers because of it, the artifact being allowed or disallowed conversation. I personally can't think of a solution that serves every player demographic or power level, no clue dude.

 • True facts. A complex array of past design decisions are colliding here in ways that are very difficult to deal with for both devs and players, and yet that very complexity is part of what makes this game so rich and compelling.
