Perhaps its just my gaming experience but I wanted to ask the community anyways: are SMGs lackluster in the Crucible? It seems like the TTK isn't All That and even if you got close enough to overcome the limited range you're a prime target for a shotgun. Too far out and just about anything can kill you like a 540 pulse or a fusion rifle.
So what is it that makes SMGs less than desirable? Or am I just looking at this all wrong and I need to grease my gears?

I find smgs to be very good, but a little harder to use
-
They do lack teeth, you see they're a weapon and not a biological creature who needs to eat.

Playing with my warlock I have great success with an SMG paired with a shotgun or a pulse rifle; The Huckleberry (which I once swore I'd never use) and the Riskrunner, both personal favourites. I'm not as fond of the recluse, and I can't really put it into words why that is.

No, smg’s are perfectly fine as they are. It’s the special ammo economy combined with how good shotguns and certain fusion rifles are at close to mid range. Since everybody has at least 2-3 shots of special ammo all of the time, it pretty much negates using certain primary weapons since you can just use a special as a primary.

They suck, and it's because their magazines are too small. They're an agile spray and pray hip fire weapon, but their magazines are smaller than their comparable rpm ars. What sense does that make? Valakadyn has 50 something rounds, hard truths has 26. In what world does that make sense? -
I think they're fine. A little hard for them to compete with Sidearms in their current state

Editado por RangerZ796: 2/25/2020 5:00:45 PMSmgs are awful on console and, besides recluse, some of the least used weapons (at least in my experience). Aggressive frame smgs are unusable and even precision frames have unforgiving recoil.
-
I think they are fine on their own, if viewed in a bubble. But when matched against shotguns, fusions, TLW, Loser-of-Wolves, Supernova, etc they just can't compete. But very few things can compete against these things, hence why they are the current meta.

On console, yes. Smgs are pretty hard to control on console(Don’t get me wrong, stuff like Recluse and Huckleberry are still pretty good for PVE) and in PVP the recoil is extremely hard to manage, giving a less TTK . I found that running Chaperone and something like a scout or bow or even an auto rifle is much easier to control.
