Borderlands 3 views

I've finally played and beat it, and am fighting myself on whether to proceed and try to finish out getting to level 50 or not. I loved BL2, was ok with BL PreSequel, but this one has left me rather unfulfilled. The base gameplay was basically just like the others. No complaints there. The story, I just didn't care. The bad guy twins, sure you want to kill them because they're douches, but beating them was not a challenge. In the final Boss fight I don't even think I was downed once, and I did pretty much the whole game solo, except one night my son ran it with me. We both felt better running it solo so that neither of us was keeping the other from experiencing everything. But to me that's a problem. BL2 was better with a pack, at least in some areas. The BL2 vault was a chore to beat even with a group, and Terormorphous was near impossible without a group. 3 just didn't seem to have as much to do. More fetch quests than story building. It also seemed to have far fewer goofy, pop culture references. And they continue killing off past Raiders (no spoilers intended). The Sanctuary ship had creatures in it that never seemed to have any reason to be there. Does Maurice serve a purpose? Does that noisy little whatever it is running around the room and in my personal room, why the heck is it even there. If I could have killed it, it would have been thrown out an airlock. Moxi was pointless in this game and really seemed to be of no real purpose. Claptrap didn't sound right. I know it's a different voice actor, but it was noticeable. Does his new friend ever move? I think I found everything he needed for it. The game just felt disappointing. I have a few other gripes, but they're not really going to make any difference. Anyone else feel like we were sold something other than what they got? Do you see any real replay-ability in this game?

  • Big BL1 and BL2 fan here. I bought BL3 and the season pass and I think I got to level 21 with Flak and stopped playing. I do intend to go back and play the rest of the story, but I don't have an urge to right now. Its weird, I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that's missing, but something felt off for sure. I was thinking its franchise burn out since I played the crap out of the other 2 games.

    • I share a lot of your issues with the game. They set so high of a bar with Borderlands 2, and I wasn't expecting it to do better, but I was still disappointed. Not to mention the last time I tried to play, the game actually shut down my Xbox three or four times in a row, so I just gave up on it.

      • My main issue was just how buggy it was.

      • I haven't finished it yet, I took a break, started playing the "Trails of Cold Steel" games and haven't been back. It's an okay game. It feels like Borderlands 2, which is both a good, and bad thing. Good, because Borderlands 2 was a great game. Bad, because Borderlands 2 came out a decade ago, and most of us where hoping the series would have evolved a bit more in that space of time. There definitely seems to be a lack of "Wow" factor in Borderlands 3. It seems to be missing some key ingredient that separates the wheat from the chaff.

      • I thought it was Borderlands. I honestly don't think the series would have made it this far without Handsome Jack. And now that his story is over they either really need to add something to the gameplay or they can move on to a different game series. For reference on if you should listen to my opinion since we all have our own tastes; here are my ratings of the borderlands game. 5/10 is average. Borderlands 1: 4/10. Bland and basic. Borderlands 2: 8/10 Handsome Jack made the drab gameplay worth it. Presequel: 3/10 no Siren Borderlands 3: 6/10. Definitely more to it than borderlands 1, but the lack of compelling story made it all feel pointless.

          • Also worth noting; I LOVED the first Vault monster, thought it was so bad ass. After finishing that fight, i was thinking, wow, can't wait to see if there are other vault monsters, and how bad ass they may be. Then, the Vault monster on Eden-6 was huge, pretty bad ass, too. Then......the final Vault monster, the big bad DESTROYER. Man, I thought this thing was going to be immaculate. I was expecting this huge, giant sized monster that we were going to have to face, I mean, it's the destroyer, right? No, we get this pint sized Cthulhu wannabe that merges with Tyreen. And the boss fight wasn't much of a challenge. More annoying than anything else.

Borderlands 3 is a good game. But in my opinion, it does mot meet the hype people were going on about. I beat the game at level 38. Ran my cousin through the story and we are both now level 50. I'm an operator and he is a Beastmaster. I have made a new character, a Beastmaster. I really do not enjoy going through the story again. I really hate the antagonists of this game, primarily Tyreen. I hate all of her dialogue, it's super cringe, and I strongly dislike her voice actor. Hearing Tyreen is like nails on a chalk board to me. I'm iffy on the worlds too. I have a really big problem with the guns in this game, and the loot. I have always hated Snipers in the borderlands series, they just don't feel good. I hate the sway on most of them as well. I am absolutely sick of getting auto-rifles, pistols, SMG's and Shotguns all coming with a -blam!-ing sniper scope. I am really sick of getting good guns with a shitty anointed perk, or an anointed perk for a class I don't play/haven't gotten to 50 yet. I am currently playing on mayhem 4 and every legendary I am getting is either another grenade I don't need, or class mods for a class I don't use. I currently have my level 50 Operator and level 23 Beastmaster. I keep getting class mods, skins and heads for Siren and Gunner. I most likely won't be making those characters anytime soon as i really, REALLY don't want to go through the story again. I wish there was a way to bring your under leveled legendary guns to level 50 once you reach that level. I have gotten SO many legendary guns that shred, that are under level 50. The chances of me getting those guns again at level 50 are probably slim to none. The characters were okay. The main ones I really liked are Rhys, Ellie and Wainwright Jakobs. Don't even get me started on multiplayer on Xbox. I have searched the Gearbox forums and on Reddit, and it seems TONS of people are having the same issues when trying to play online with friend and Xbox, especially One X consoles. If you join a friend from the title screen, most of the time you end up with your console shutting off without warning. But joining a friend while you're already exploring seems to work. There is extreme lag at times when joining friends, but when playing alone, the game is perfectly fine. Coming back to the main villains, the Calypso twins, these are probably my least favorite video game villains ever. Troy wasn't so bad, by Tyreen. Good god, she just doesn't shut the -blam!- up. Their dialogue was terrible for the most part, and the whole streaming thing going on with them was just really annoying. I do like some of the easter eggs in the game that I have found. The easter egg for One Punch Man was cool. Towards the end of the game in Pandora, in the mines, there's an enemy named Sloth, and looks just like Sloth from the Goonies, pirate hat and all. I could go on more, but I don't feel like it. It's a good game, but definitely doesn't live up to the hype it was getting, in my opinion. Edit: Best part of the game, the dialogue from Sammy and Daniel Traunt. Funniest shit ever.

              • I found the game boring. The gameplay was good- just like BL2, but it still bored me. The main villains weren't funny, their psychopathic tendencies felt forced (prob to just get favor of their cult, which makes sense). Their streaming schtick got old after the second cutscene with them. The starting cutscene was a terrible slog, as well. The supporting characters weren't that memorable to me (Jakobs, the first villain boss guy, the Maliwan dude bros, and the two main people on the Atlas planet being the ones I really liked). That one little girl was terrible. Tannis and Lilith I never really cared for. The quests were eh, nothing too exciting. I felt that it was missing the usual humor- BL2 had you kill yourself for a quest for example.

I can't stand any of the new characters and they actually managed to make me hate some of the old ones in the process. I WANT MORE TINY TINA DAMMIT!

                  • 🎶I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, I’m getting sick of talking to Lilith, 🎶 This sums up my opinion on the main quest. Side quests were good as always. Exploration was focused on too much. The maps were too big for their own good. Nothing really felt connected like the world did in BL2. I pre-ordered the game thinking I would get the great fun out of split screen like I did in BL2. I hate the main villains. Nothing good about them. After than one scene, I wish I could mute them and delete them from the game. I would gladly take a retcon for that horrible moment. Leading up to the game, I thought I would replay it several times before even getting bored. I had to force myself just to finish it. The mission objectives got so mind numbingly boring. “Go here, do thing, kill waves and waves of enemies” It’s just that for the entire main story. Why the side quests have better writing and objectives is bonkers. Side activities should be a distraction, not the main part of the game you want to play. I wanted to get further in the main quest, so that I could actually play good missions.
