I'd like to see Bungie and any other devs out there using lootboxes consider the idea of making a game that is fully funded and profitable after paying $60 for the game. What a crazy idea, right? So, if your budget is X, the expected sales is Y, and X is higher than Y, then lower the budget to make it equal. But they don't care, because this game has been out for months and they've surely made hundreds of thousands of dollars off microtransactions. So they can roll back the eververse, give players access to that content through gameplay, etc., because they made their money already. The endgame of Destiny 2 is literally designed to force you to purchase bright engrams.

 • That would work for games that release and aren't continually developed. This is a live game, had literally hundreds of developers permanently working on it, and they all need paying. Rolling back Eververse and making everything free, how much would that piss off the people who've already paid for stuff?

 •
Rolling back Eververse and making everything free, how much would that piss off the people who've already paid for stuff?
Do you get angry every time a store has a sale on something you purchased at full price? Disappointed, sure, but we know that is the nature of consumerism. We don’t buy a product and expect some sort of right to dictate how they will price that item in the future. I don’t disagree, people will be angry, but that doesn’t mean it would be justified anger.

 • I mean Tess was special orders for the first year and Bungie supposedly spent more developing the first game than the second, so why is extra funding needed for D2 despite the lower production cost and higher sales?

 • Obviously D1 didn't make as much money as they would've liked so they added further monetisation.

 • 47.5 million not enough? Don't delude yourself man. Plus my point was D2 has made them more profit than the first but it supposedly needed them from the get go? Nope. Source Destiny Sales Numbers Revealed by Bungie Lawsuit https://gamerant.com/destiny-sales-numbers-210/

It's entirely the norm; small weekly playlist or strike changes don't require significant manpower. Remember that Bungie supported the entire Halo franchise without microtransactions as well. If they can't support the game with the sales of the game and DLCs, then they should scale the game down, rather than support it with predatory gambling.
Rolling back Eververse and making everything free, how much would that piss off the people who've already paid for stuff?
It wouldn't because they should be reimbursed. But keep in mind, they're not making anything "free". You paid for the game and the DLC.
