I used to genuinely enjoy the Atheon fight. I took pleasure in beating him without cheesing him.
Now, however, it isn't fun. Taking a fun, interesting mechanic and swapping it for RNG is a slap to the face. Especially when the community vociferously opposed this "fix." Moreover, the "fix" is wholly insulting in the face of numerous other bugs that ruin the fight and make beating it more a matter of luck than skill.
I think Bungie might have lost my business with the RNG teleport "bug fix." I was genuinely enjoying the game. I felt that most, if not all, of the other patches were pretty well thought out, genuine attempts to make the game better.
The Atheon teleport "fix" is just a middle finger to the players. I no longer even want to do the raid. It feels like work. If I wanted to work, I would stay at work, not come home and play a damned game.
EDIT: I am talking about the Hard Mode. Normal mode you can deal with the glitches because you can revive people. However, in Hard Mode one or two glitches occur in almost every fight that kill someone. Being down a person or two is big deal in HM. Moreover, Atheon with all 29's is a bitch because of the aforementioned bugs. When you get an invincible minotaur who won't lose the last 5% of his health even though the struggling level 29 relic holder smashes him 5 times, and the minotaur then two-shots him, it is not fun, it is frustrating. At least when you could pick the portal team you could manage the bugs by having the best person hold the relic (for example a level 30 sunsinger who can compensate for being two-shotted by an invincible enemy with a revive). Bungie gave us the middle finger.
EDIT 2: for those of you claiming I should just get better and beat it, I did beat the raid on Hard this week. I am just saying, the Battle of the Bugs was onerous, and not very fun. More than 50% of our wipes over the several hours it took us to beat Atheon were due to bugs. Basically had to have the stars align and get lucky to beat him. If you have a party of all 30s with maxed Gjallarhorn it is less of an issue because you can kill him in two teleports, and thus mitigate the probability you will encounter a bug. However, if your party has to fight him down over multiple teleport phases, the odds that you will encounter a bug that just wipes the raid increases enormously. Hence why I call Atheon the Battle of the Bugs.

Huh, funny how Atheon is still pretty buggy

You can actually kill him with one relic. I killed jin yesterday. :)

Even though I know all positions of the final encounter, I am somewhat frustrated with it as well. I'd rather the player create their own role instead of Atheon creating them for us at random.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Raider TCK: 11/4/2014 4:39:30 PMEver since this patch, bungie have basically made it impossible to introduce new players to the raid. Now you need at least 4/6 players that have relic experience. And every member of the fireteam needs to be 28+. Personally as a level 29 player (I just need the damn boots...) this is not an issue for me when I go in with my raid Clan who collectivly has the experience of 60-100 raids. However, I used to take plenty of new inexperienced raiders through for their first tour of the VOG so it would be an enjoyable experience. I am not going to do that anymore.

Edytowany przez użytkownika NathanW18: 11/4/2014 5:29:35 PMThe bugs definitely ruin the raid. In hard mode, everything is fine, up until Atheon. The random teleports are fine, but dying due to the game not working correctly makes it difficult. Since you can't revive people, it can be difficult to recover from the game screwing you over.

2 OdpowiedziIs Aetheon cheesing us now? Lol, the irony.

OP is truthin' up in here. The bugs ruin any drive I have to finish hard mode raid...too frustrating with all those bugs and it's just not entertaining. I love a good challenge but this raid in HM is insulting. Way to go, Bungie.

This game didn't have enough RNG, the random teleportation was needed. More RNG please Bungie.

2 OdpowiedziThe Atheon battle is super easy, even with the random teleports. Fighting the bugs and glitches is the real battle.

1 OdpowiedźWe were doing it last night with some people that haven't beaten it last night took us almost 40 minutes to do gatekeeper because they just didn't understand...finally we get to atheon and another 40 minutes later on atheon we got his health down to about 20% and the time portal teleported 1 player....so we automatically got a wipe...

Learn how to use the relic and you'll have fun

beat him in two portal runs today with my raid team first try on hard 100% easiest part of the raid

Pushing atheon on hard for people on 360 msg oh look evan if you have checkpoint

1 OdpowiedźMy team beat him last night with just sniper rifles and 1 truth.

We were just on for a flawless raid on easy mode and he decided to teleport no one at all!! They need to fix this or at the very least acknowledge the problems.
-
Haven't been on a team that beat him since. :(

4 OdpowiedziI agree. My teammates and I attempted the HM raid last night and failed at Atheon due to all of the mentioned bugs. Teleporting when multiple people enter at once. Continuously losing a rocket (or 2 if at cap) on each wipe when having the extra ammo boots on. Dying instantly on the shield.

These things should t happen in the most importent part of the game.
