When the patch goes live all legendary engrams will be legendary or better. When you rank up with the Cryptarch you often get a legendary engram or two. Thus free legendaries/exotics patch day. Save your engrams!
The goal is to save as many engrams as possible then come patch day you rank up with the cryptarch 2 or 3 times and get those legendary engrams in the mail which will in fact be legendary or better items.

3 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika ShadowSpine: 9/27/2014 9:11:43 PMEDIT: I see now. Sorry ignore my further post on this. If you level him with all de coherent engrams you get a good chance for legendaries when he levels up. After the patch you turn them all in level him and in the mail you will get a good chance for legendary engrams that after the patch are guaranteed legendary or better. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS!!! The legendary engrams you save before the patch automatically become BLUES!! It's says it clearly in the patch notes. Any legendary engram after the patch is then guaranteed legendary or better. So decrypt them wile you still kinda have a chance for a legendary!

Smart man I'm 5 away to rank up

1 OdpowiedźWhen I got him to level 6 he gave me 2 legendarys, I just got him to level 9 and he gave me to rares!

So wrong. Learn to read.

They said that old engrams won't scale with the patch.
-
Hodor hodor hodor, hodor hodor hodor hodor! Hodor hodor. Hodor!
-
But the cryptarch takes 3000 xp to level up at every level? I understand what OP is saying, I can't remember what the first few levels cost, but since level 8 or so every single level is 3k xp.

7 OdpowiedziThey've aleady stated that all legendary engrams in your possession will be reduced to rares.

He's not saying keep your legendaries because they will remain legendaries, he is saying keep them because you can use the decoherent engrams to level up your cryptarch rank, when you level it up you often get legendary engrams in the mail, so if you do this after the patch those will be guaranteed legendaries.

1 OdpowiedźThe patch says it will demote any legendary engrams in your inventory to rare when it comes out

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika ScarletShinobody: 9/27/2014 8:56:02 PMPlease read carefully: Step 1: Save all of your engrams until the patch is released. (Regardless if you have legendaries, still save them, do not decode them.) Step 2: Once patch 1.0.2 is live you finally decode all of the engrams you have saved to give your cryptarch exp to level him up Step 3: Receive your rewards for leveling up the cryptarch at the mail post. For those of you who receive legendary engrams as a reward, need not worry as the cryptarch now decodes guaranteed engram rarity type or higher. Step 4: enjoy your guaranteed loot. This is how I interpreted OP. EDIT: For any saved legendaries that turn blue the cryptarch's new decoding system in patch 1.0.2 DOES NOT apply to them, so there is no chance to getting a legendary from your saved blues. You only hope to receive legendaries as your reward in the mail.

Any engrams before patch WILL NOT garuantee the color. It clearly says so in the update notes.
-
Wrong. You get legendary packages in the postmaster. They said nothing about downgrading those. Put the engrams in now and save up packages. They won't change.
-
The update notes say it will only work on engrams found after the patch. You might as well just use any engram you find before the patch to avoid disappointment.

5 OdpowiedziIf you save the engrams though Bungie is going to make them all turn into Blues even if they are purple, thereby ruining it for you anyway. my real concern is that the Cryptarch reputation will cap at some low number (like the glimmer and Marks cap already) and you'll be stuck giving him items and getting nothing in return.
-
2 OdpowiedziThat's not how it works.. Deej states it, if you really did have those comprehensive skills, that the new patch doesn't apply to engrams before the upcoming patch.

Edytowany przez użytkownika NormanOsborn: 9/27/2014 8:43:04 PMThe only method I can see of "saving" legendary engrams will be if you receive them in the mail as an envelope from ranking up with the Cryptarch as it is and since you haven't opened that mail I would imagine a potential legendary in there is not technically a legendary yet. Otherwise they will become RARE engrams with the same patch you are talking about as others have already pointed out. You are just shooting yourself in the foot by not turning in all of your current legendary engrams before the patch drops. Now if you want to hold on to your current rare engrams because they will have a higher chance to become a legendary post-patch, that is a different story and honestly a good idea. EDIT- upon second glance I think this is what you are saying Studness but it was strangely worded to me. My apologies.
-
in other words don't rank up the crytarch.. guys.
-
This is a decent plan, hold engrams even if they turn blue rank the cryptarch hoping for purple gifts. Very efficient.
-
I honestly hope all these people are just trolling and not really this stupid.
-
OP you're a genius The rest of you need to use your brain

Or bungie poos on you n makes packages straight blues

1 OdpowiedźThat's false. If you hold legendarys till patch they will be downgraded to rares
