How do you win a girl's heart over rivals?
There is this girl I like (we are both juniors in high school), but there is this senior guy who really likes her. He asked her to the dance coming up in a few weeks and she said yes. However, it seems like she prefers me over him, or at least cares for me more than she does for him (for full story and reason go [url=http://www.bungie.net/7_I-feel-bad--girl-problems/en/Forum/Post?id=63363447#referred-OffTopic]here[/url]). She also promised to go with me for the next dance. For the past few months we have been going out together a lot, and we have gotten really close. She has also been going out with this other guy, however, but it is pretty obvious that they aren't as close. We have extended hugs, hold hands, cuddle while sitting down, lean on each other, etc. To the extent of my knowledge she hasn't been doing any of that with him. Also, she told me that they were just friends and she promised that she wouldn't date him, and for the most part I believe her. Still, I can't help but wonder what will happen. This guy seems like the really dramatic type, he even bought her a cake for her birthday. I never did anything like that for her. One way I am leading however is that whenever she needs someone to talk to I talk with her. We text almost every day, and it isn't just me bugging her, she is actually the one who texts first to me most of the time.
In terms of how we compare, he is more popular than me across the entire high school, but I am not unpopular either and I would say I am one of the most mature and sociable of the guys in our grade. Aside that, I beat him on almost every other level. I am smarter than him, get better grades (I have a 2200 SAT score and he doesn't have any college to go to even though he only has like 4 months of high school left) I have taste in music closer to the girl's taste than he, I share more interests with the girl, I am probably even more physically fit and good at sports than he is (this one's close though).
So what do you think about this? And what should I do?

Edytowany przez użytkownika Recon Number 54: 1/26/2014 8:40:56 PMI've never really understood the term "rivals" when it comes to people making a decision about who they want in their life as friends, lovers, who they date, who they hang out with, who makes them smile, or happy, etc. People are capable, and usually do, have multiple people who they care about, that they care for, who they enjoy spending time with, have sex with, fall in love with, and so on. There is no "first place winner" when it comes to being a part of someone else's life. If they like/love/care/enjoy you? Then you've already "won" the most important and valuable thing. Their attention. What attention they decide to give you, the kind of attention? That's their call. The fact that you (or anyone) is already on their radar? That is what matters. Being a part of someone's life isn't like the core plot of The Highlander (there can be only one!). Just as you and I have people in our lives who we care about and treat as unique individuals, giving them the attention and interaction that we choose? So can other people. Relationships and interactions don't have leaderboards and anyone who wants that? They are missing the point of this particular "game".

I'm not getting this. You say he's your "rival", yet you think you're better than them anyway? (Not questioning you're belief in yourself, but rather you're belief in him being a "threat" to you and her). The only thing I could see that would in any way be a "threat" is confidence. Just ask her out already, the way you've described the situation, it's [i]in the bag.[/i]

Smarter =\= you are better for her She will determine what she wants- and at that age, they don't care much for serious Relationships that will end in about a year when one or the both of you go to university. Make a move and see how she responds- but from the looks at it she sees you as a good friend and with university approaching, she's likely not willing to waste a solid friendship on a temporary relationship.
