It's getting to be more and more common that public Christmas displays are being decried by atheists. (As in having Christmas displays on public property.) They say it is an attempt to force religion upon them. How?

2 OdpowiedziSeriously? I'm Atheist and I see Christmas more as a cultural holiday now rather than a religious one. It is a holiday now celebrated by much more than Christians. If you meet an Atheist actually mad about Christmas decorations, kindly tell them to -blam!- off on my behalf.
I've got a question for atheists
I don't think that I'm going to answer your question, just to spite you. I hate anti-atheist trolls.

I'm technically Catholic because I've been baptized and my whole family is as well. However I'm the only Agnostic/Atheist person and I still celebrate Christmas like anyone else would.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Foxy: 11/22/2013 6:07:25 AMSo what Im getting is people don't want to see Christmas lights, Christmas trees, beautiful nativity scenes, stockings hung up in stores, all that mistletoe and shiz, and all the other Christmas decorations? How is any of that offensive. At the most the nativity scene has a religious meaning to it but do people seriously cringe when they see it? It's like seeing art IMO. And yeah art has a meaning. Ughhhh people just want a reason to bitch.

11 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika HurtfulTurkey: 11/22/2013 5:40:51 PMLet's just recognize that the commercial aspects of Christmas, including gifts and decorations, are not religiously affiliated. You can spout some drivel about how it was originally an attempt by the church to oust pagan traditions, but it's not a church thing. In fact, the tired old Christmas sermon you'll hear in churches is how we focus too much on presents and ignore the actual HOLYday that it is. So if you oppose Christmas decorations or presents because it happens to coincide with a Christian holiday, then you ought to calm down a bit and realize the church dislikes the blurring of the religious and secular aspects as much as you.

I'm an Agnostic and I love christmassy things

3 OdpowiedziUm... I don't believe that.. You have every right to publicly celebrate your religion as long as it doesn't violate the law...

It isn't. Idiots just find any and every reason to complain for attention and trying to be victim.

Funnily enough I just found this not too long ago.

8 Odpowiedzi*sigh* This is such a tired discussion. Government institutions are supposed to remain impartial and neutral when it comes to religion and religious holidays or celebrations. That includes public schools, courthouses, city hall, etc. If you want to put your Christmas decorations out on your front lawn, go for it. That's great. Don't put them up at school, that's all.

Given the roots of Christmas I enjoyed the sentence "...an attempt to force religion on them" because that hit the historical nail right on its rusty, crudely made head

There are always jerks in every single group of people. Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Force a Christmas tree down their throat, because -blam!- them. I'd call myself atheist and Christmas is fantastic.

Well, why should other people's feelings matter if you don't have a reason to be nice?

Edytowany przez użytkownika Ad Hoc: 11/22/2013 3:35:34 AMIt's not. Every group has a small, extreme minority and this is the Atheists'. I'm not sure why they care anyway. Christmas isn't about God for most people anymore. It's about gifts, and shopping, and Santa Clause. I can see how it might be a bummer for people who celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc, but is it really that big of a deal? When was the last time you looked at a Christmas Tree and thought about Jesus? I know I haven't for a long time. It just isn't about religion anymore. It's a part of American culture in general.

I don't think tax dollars should be used on the stuff.
