I think that Bungie should implement the idea of back stories into Destiny. I'll give you three, strong reasons of why Backstories would be a positive feature to Destiny.
1.Social Interactions:
In the customization screen, you would have pre-set options to put onto your character, changing overtime depending on your choices and decisions, here are a few choices that you could make....Just ideas guys:
-Grew up lonely as a child, lived in the streets fending for himself/herself
- Had a loving family, was in the Junior Space Cadets and learned how to drive a space shuttle at the early age of 13.
-Had a loving dad, but an abusive mother who constantly verbally abused and mentally abused him/her.
(You would obviously have many more ideas then that, I was just giving out examples.)
Now, these options are not just for you to see, society treats you differently depending on what you choose. Sort of like Mass Effect (but more interactive). If you took for example, option number one, the store owners would say, "Are you that kid that stole from my store 30 years ago? Get out and stay out!"
Maybe you would be accepted into gangs and cults more easily, them knowing how street smart you are and your sneakiness. (Just purely ideas)
2.Story Driven:
The story of the way you played would be different, touching base on the previous reason, you would talk differently, thus making certain NPCs like you or not like you, really adding an effect to the story. Your old Junior Space Cadet trainer could be in the story and he could remember you, thus giving you a special weapon needed to complete a mission or something of the sort.
3.Other Player Interaction:
In Destiny, a shared world shooter, there are constantly other players in the game, playing with you, fighting with you (or against you), and of course..just hanging out with you. Your story line could be accessible by other players when they are walking around the bar, they see you sitting down and the option to chat appears..you hit chat and your player details appear..giving the player more light on you, and your character in the game.
Be sure to post ideas guys! I may add them to the post! ;)

I liked how Mass Effect's back story and character profiles played into the story. I don't know how Destiny would implement this concept, but it would definitely be cool. I'm in favor for anything that further distinguishes my character from everyone else's.

7 OdpowiedziYeah, lets also have cat-ears and ride-able pixie dragons. No.
-
That would be nice but they would have to make the game more geared for solo play. Because those options would have to reflect somewhere in the game and running around with up to 2 other ppl that would be a lot more work to implement. Basically it would be harder and take longer to make content
-
This would be awesome. It would be nice to be able to give a legitimate back story to our character. The RP'ers would have a field day (me included). It shouldn't be mandatory, though. We should have the option.

2 OdpowiedziYou sir are genius!

Edited for more explanation.

Aha thanks ;)

While this is a good idea, I do not believe it is the best idea ever.
-
I think this is a great idea, maybe have instead a place to write something about your character, or a quote or something. People are saying they would all be the same, but they would not for instance, the Hunter in law of the jungle was raised presumably before the invasion.

5 OdpowiedziWhat background can you possibly have in a wasteland known as earth? There's only one city left and a sphere that "saved humanity" called the traveler. A back story would be an utter waste. Which is why Bungie WON'T be adding it. Worst. Idea. Ever.
jk it actually sounds pretty cool but it honestly would serve no purpose
-
Like Mass Effect? Sure! That would be cool to have your background mentioned at certain points in the game.
-
Whether they add it or not won't matter too much. There will be plenty of deep diving Lore experts that will already have this as part of their story. They'll post it on their blogs, they'll refer to it in dialogue and mostly they won't think about it too much because they already absorbed it and made it part of who their character is. Ignore the walking lameness and have fun out there. If it gets built in and some of the in-game NPCs use it, that would be awesome! If not, keep telling and building your story... we're going to be in for a long ride and it's best to document early rather than thinking you can remember and put it all together later.
-
Would be a great idea! Would be good for those Players who would wantt o RP with eachother in game, pretending that they are good or bad, travelling the universe to eradicate the Cabal on a vengeance spree.
-
O YEAH! I wanna be a Loose Cannon Titan that doesnt play buy the rules!

1 OdpowiedźSo basically Mass effect, but more in depth pointlessness.
-
1 OdpowiedźI would rather have to make character defining choices. I can tell you got this idea from mass effect, so let me put it this way, in mass effect 2 I felt way more immersed and more emotions were provoked when I actually played and was the sole survivor of the last battle then when I chose that option in a little menu.

28 OdpowiedziWouldn't all backgrounds be the same? BearCat" A guardian who grew up in the last city" AlphaPromethean "A guardian who grew up in the last city" I don't think there is enough variety for a proper background.

1 OdpowiedźWonder how many people told OP to go play M.E.?... Its getting late and Im getting lazy not going to bother finding out.
