Marathon failure?
It failed to reach its server slam player count and couldn't even break 100k players on steam.
This is the game bungie delayed our D2 content for even after swearing it wouldn't affect destiny 2? Welp, im curious to see what happens now and sonys response to this situation.

All for Marathon, a game that would never be as successful as D2 use to be. The daily player count for marathon has already dropped lower than Edge of Fate DLC and steadily falling. Bungie you should have kept D2 as you main focus and already delivered on all the empty promises we’ve been hearing for over 6 months, like bringing all the legacy dungeons & raids back with those legacy tiers weapons and so on.

13 OdpowiedziIt’s currently sitting at 65k, around one third of Arc Raiders (196k). This can’t be what Bungie were hoping for.

11 OdpowiedziIt’s currently getting decent reviews and sales on Steam, but not hitting top player numbers. Maybe it’s a slow burn. There was a lot of negativity towards Marathon so hopefully they haven’t left it too late to win people over.

It might end up being niche though, and we have no way to know if that’s what Bungie expected. A key element we’re all missing is the average revenue per user (ARPU) in the segment of extraction shooter. Do they tend to spend a lot and 70k stable player base is enough? Or do they need 150k, 300k? Bungie seems to be betting big on the Cryo Archive (see delayed reviewes) except if few people enjoy the game as it is, will a high end activity for the most hardcore bring any new player? More questions than answers right now.
