How could Bungie keep veteran players & attract new players

Hello Gaurdians! 2014 in September, We were introduced to Destiny. From the first time I encountered the falling in the Cosmodrone I was hooked. Over the past 10 years Destiny has went through many changes Show me agreed that him helped and some agreed these changes may have hurt Destiny. Through all those chances, Destiny has survived. As of recently, there has been a decline in the veteran players and an even slower influx of new players. My question is, how could Destiny keep veteran players and attract new players?

  • Bring back vaulted Year 1 and part of Forsaken that was vaulted. Listen to the casual players over these Streamers. Decrease micro transactions, and give players ways to earn cosmetics for free. Bungie is really trying to fix PVP, but there really seems to be a disconnect with them between casual player base. That includes the overall game. There needs to be a solution to vault space. We need a way to organize items in vault space, fix bugs with mods, be able to quickly remove Loadouts, mods, etc. Basic quality of life changes seem to be ignored? Stop the senseless nerfs, and remove power cap in certain activities. We're made to power grind, but we -5 or more in certain activities? Never made sense to me. Fix the new player experience with a better tutorial guide of the game. They've announced Apollo and Behemoth, but it seems like alot of players want Destiny 3.

  • -Fix Young Ahamkara's Spine. -Get rid of immunity phases + reduce insane damage numbers that trivialize content instead. -Get rid of the trancendence wells and chromatic enemies. -Balance other classes so prismatic isn't essential.

    As a veteran solo player I want access to the Red War, CoS, and Warmind Campaigns I paid for. It would be logical that players should be able to play and experience the entire campaign path from the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart. Then Bungie need to give us console players actual campaign and strike Ritual Playlists. Something we can pick from the Director kind like the various Halo MCC playlists. Give them silly names like “Just The Vex” or “Torobatl After Party” and it’s just all the campaign missions with Vex or Cabal. Idk something that encourages replay and drawing new players into understanding the giant universe of Destiny.

    New players:fun casual content and a sense of direction to make progress(who cares what daito or aztecross say, they are just a small group of people not the entire community so they should be mostly ignored)remove fomo,better new player experience/campaign Veterans:unvault content,remove fomo,bring back fan favorite content in d1 and early d2 such as:prison of elders,crimson days,the revelry(the only event I missed),haunted forest,wrath of the machine, combined arms and srl(including old PvP maps)self revive warlocks(yes),more free armor but from d1 such as the old ps exclusive armor and the live action trailer armor and age of triumph armor for the other raids Both:forge mode and machinima mode and past seasonal activities(including public events),be able to buy past season passes

    • The short answer is D3. Unfortunately, upper management assigned resources to developing other games instead of a sequel for the Destiny franchise. Now it is too late to do anything. Development of D3 would take 5 - 10 years, keeping in mind that next generation consoles are expected from Sony and Microsoft in 2028 or 2029 at the latest. Developers would have to begin working with beta hardware by 2027 -- another factor that adds complexity to creating a new game. Bungie is making changes to the UI, enemies, and activity difficulty, but when it comes down to it veteran players have a vault loaded with both useless weapons and other weapons that work well enough. Players are stuck with an aging game. There is nothing new in D2, just recycling of content and weapons, including some from D1, such as the forthcoming Icebreaker. One can understand why D2 gamers are playing other games because those games offer new experiences instead of visiting the same planets and fighting the same enemies.

    • Bringing back the old campaigns so the story actually makes sense 🤷‍♂️ Plus the amount of predatory “ads” you get AKA pop ups for new players makes them feel overwhelmed. The game needs to start simple for them, slowly building up once they get the basics down

    • The main issue for new players (at least the ones I've spoken to) is they are just lost in the game. So many things to do but no real direction on what they should be actually doing.... Which leads to them either getting frustrated n leaving or bored n leaving. Also, the DLCs need a major price cut. How to keep veteran players? Give back the content we paid for..... Oh, sparrow horns too.

      • A problem indeed!! The game's 10 years old, so groups of friends starting off together seems fairly unlikely... but there's always the chance! So I reckon the majority of new players coming in are either solo, or have a mate with them. The appeal should be the game... something with a start a middle and an end; ideally with some tutorial based stuff around how the game works, and how to create builds + armour levelling/stats. At this moment, we have a free to play game, with a handful of dlcs that provide campaign and subclass content. I'm not actually sure there is anything to do in the base game, except for patrol, vanguard ops, pvp and gambit?? That is quite frankly a dull game, and if you were to add on the dlcs, it becomes a very expensive game!! So there probably needs to be some unvaulting.. if not a complete campaign, then maybe a mission on each (in which case, II don't see why d1 can't be included) - missions could be added to the timeline, that would become the initial 'campaign', if you like. Progression.... this is really important; allow players to have an early game, mid game and then an end game, allowing for a bit of pace setting for players who want a slower progression and those who don't. If you allow routes of progression you can do whatever you like to the end game, and really cater to veterans. Tldr: inclusivity is key for at least 90% of the game... so take care of getting players in first, let players evolve naturally towards end game and the rest takes care of itself!

      • New fresh and fun content. Weapons and armor that are worth farming that permit strong builds (sorry for the stupid comparison: Diablo 4 builds are mega fun). You can have an armor or a weapon for 5 years and not feel the need to change it in D2. Vanguard playlists, Gambit, Crucible, seasonal contests ( Eva Levante or the Halloween) are always the same for ages. The game needed a complete restart and not punctual cosmetic remarks.

        For endgame, I think that normal raids should be 6 player matchmade activities that have a weekly limit on rewards that grant pinnacles per encounter and have the chest at the end of the encounter have the listed loot pool for said encounter. Players can choose to have a random piece of loot OR buy something they have already discovered be pinnacle for the first completion per week so you can actually choose which slot gets a pinnacle. Master raids get double rewards and have their mechanics like they are now. The mechanics need to be different and more difficult for master instead of artificially making them difficult with power. Power should be seen as an entry to an activity. Not recommended power. If you're not a certain power, you can't get into a certain activity. Maybe get rid of power sharing. Why are people being encouraged to play less? With this, allow us to overlevel. Get rid of us being -5 or minus WHATEVER in all modes automatically. This would allow power to actually mean something and bring variety to master content by changing the mechanics in not just raids, but master content in general. People would be comfortable to do raids because we can one phase bosses with a good team again. People can make pre made fireteams to guarantee a one phase and matchmade teams can beat a boss even when they run the most garbage loadouts. Also make the exotics be bought for specific spoils that come from and can be used for the new raid only. And then convert them to spoils of conquest when the next new raid comes out. Max spoils for that raid can then be used to buy the exotic.

        I think they should showcase players that announce they quit over and over and are playing again in a few hours. Make special emblems marking how many hours they took to come back and how many alt accounts they use. Each year the player that quits the most only to play again gets an exotic named after them. Have a yearly event to celebrate with shiny weapon drops and a cool shader. I think it would be a hoot!

        I have to be brutal: 1. [b]New Players >> no[/b]. 7 year-old game.. no DLC bundle pricing makes sense.. onboarding is not worth the take.. no instructions for most things (youtube is a must).. [b]DO NOT WASTE TIME HERE WITHOUT MASSIVE REINVESTMENT[/b][i]..for example every guardian's journey should include Red War[/i] ... your addressable market is only those that have played the game and no longer do.. its plenty 2. [b]Veterans[/b] (everyone else) >> read your own forums (try to make sense of the morass.. draw insights), play your own game, create a sustainable delivery and monetization model, be truly proud of what you are working on..hint it will involve innovation and all the before mentioned things.

        • Was talking to a colleague at work today about the game I’ve played since D1. He was told by his mates to steer clear of Destiny because you’d have to buy all the DLCs and it just isn’t worth it

          • You want like, a list or something? Because I could totally make one, but I'll put the 2 most important ones here, stop wasting money on dead on conception projects while your only money maker slowly dies, and make the onboarding experience not boring and not cost 300 some odd dollars to fully get into. There's a lot more, but I'd say those two are the most important.
