(Edit) TL:DR- Events and content design are a cash grab. Bungies doesn't give players a good enough reason to play events (and other content) or design content items worth paying for. Without fun gameplay, players are left paying for outfits like this is a fashion show and not a FPS.

This isn't to complain, but more in hopes that others feel the same way and maybe, JUST MAYBE, Bungie will give a -blam!-. I am doing my best to consider all perspectives and challenges when critiquing the game. I have played Destiny since its release in 2014. I have been through the ups and downs with this game. Events used to be worth playing. However, they have become a cash grab that ruins the player experience.
As you read this, keep in mind that games as a service have a goal to keep players consistently playing by investing their time into a game. It is the same concept used by social media and youtube. Now, I understand cosmetics are just that, cosmetics. They don't affect the gain much. HOWEVER, if Bungie's success and player loyalty/morale is determined by players' time in the game, then you would think they would make events (and other content) worth playing, instead of getting players to fork out cash. This doesn't drive player loyalty. If they just wanted cash, they would do expansions only. This model failed for them in the past.
Bungie just released Solstice and in my opinion, it is another load of garbage that follows suit for the majority of the last 2 years. The armor sets that are provided are again a laughing stock. I don't understand how in 2022 most armor models are still so bad. I am sure I am not the only that feels this way. I don't know how people pay for these armor sets that are below average at best. If you look at other game ideas and even Destiny fan art, the model designs literally make Bungie look like amateurs.
The cost of bright dust for these sets is too high. Players shouldn't need to grind bounties and challenges for multiple hours a day to buy only one armor set with a little left over. That's if you consider the player paid for the season pass. They are clearly priced to influence players to pay real money. I get it, it's a business. HOWEVER, if they are trying to get us to pay real money, why are these armor sets so butt--blam!- ugly? If this is simply business, why are they not making models that make players wanna throw your cash at them??? I don't know if their designers are just bad, disconnected from players, or being told to make them less appealing.
This Solstice event also adds another paywall to their cash grab. Half of the new items are not attainable unless you pay another 1000 silver. That means a player would pay roughly $140(US) for all the content in the game for the year if the model continues.
I understand that designing and building games can be a lot of work. However, Bungies is also a repeat offender of reusing old assets and hyping them up like it's amazing. We all know it's not. Players do enjoy seeing the return of classic content, but not at the trade-off of not getting something new and refreshing.
I REALLY REALLY hope Bungie adjusts its planning and business model for The Final Shape. I am not asking for much here and I think it's very achievable for the coming expansion. I am sure most veteran players would agree with me on most of what I have said. I respect that other people likely have different feelings and opinions. Ultimately, I made this post in hopes that many of you will agree on some level. Even if that's a little because nothing will change if we don't speak up. The game should be made to appeal to MOST players, not the smaller percentage that are content creators or professionals. Most gamers are casual players.

7 OdpowiedziIt’s 10$ for some trash cosmetics people lighten up. I can’t imagine how some of you live day to day life if a 10$ event card triggers you this much. Like every event bungie has released you know what to expect. You choose to play this game knowing bungie has poop business practice. PLAY IT OR DONT. Tragic some people don’t find that a simple concept.

4 OdpowiedziIt's a free event. It's not compulsory 🤷♂️

What would you guys have wanted to see in terms of activities and rewards? I miss the first years missions, and more than a reskinned HC would have been…Better armor.
-
1 OdpowiedźAs a veteran player myself, who has played since the very beginning of D1, I completely agree with everything you said. It’s quite sad tbh, what they did to this game. So much potential down the drain. It’s one of the main reasons why I didn’t buy WQ nor this year’s content in general.

5 OdpowiedziIf you've been around then you are obviously aware that they fired the creative drivers of the game. It is a monetization pyramid. They scream and shout all day about inclusion and activism, which makes the disillusioned pour money into the game. The game no longer needs to be 'good' for them to financially thrive. And so it will continue and probably worsen until a better game comes around. Its a free market so if someone were to take a pile of money and create a very similar game with maybe a small bit of advertising here and there to fund it, I would never play destiny again. When your company becomes this toxic and bad at their craft, it opens the door to absolutely anyone willing to fill the gap they created. Doesn't make it feel better for u that your favourite game is now shite because activists are running the show, but hey that's how the market works.

7 Odpowiedzi
Bungie consistently fails to make seasonal events worth a player's time.
It's by design, there is no... "Fail, Mistake, etc..." that some use as an excuse for Bungie's deliberate poor actions. Oh, and you can forget about Bungie adjusting their business model because this is (the only thing that they know better than to mess up.) "if it works don't break it.".

1 OdpowiedźThe actual reason the grind is bad is because we’re doing old activities farming currencies and doing triumphs the older solstice grind was better because it told you exactly what activity’s you need to do

1 OdpowiedźI'm still salty about how they took away the halloween skeleton armor ornaments that I purchased with bright dust so I could buy them again the next year. I feel like they owe me 18000 bright dust.

1 OdpowiedźI think honestly this year's solstice does good with armor rerolling and upgrading to make it worth playing. The value based on what armor sets you already have makes it less worth it, but anyone who doesn't have fully optimized load outs yet is really going to benefit from grinding solstice this year. I wish Bungie would get more creative with Bonfire Bash, and mix up the EAZs objectives a little, but honestly even as someone who has optimized loadouts this events +20 and +10 guaranteed can help me move some loadouts to resilience, and that's awesome.

2 OdpowiedziYou are getting things twisted here. You act like they actually TRY to make them worth our time and fun. Spoilers, they are not. This is all intentional. Seasonal events have always been monetisation mtx fiestas with extremely grindy chore lists on top to keep player numbers up. High revenue = satisfied investors, high player numbers = satisfied investors because high player engagement leads to more mtx sales. That's literally all Bungie has always had in mind. Money. Not quality content, not fun content, not unique and innovative content. Just plain profitable content. Bungie is way way way worse than all the big boys like EA who are hated for their mtx focus. Can't emphasise enough on WAY worse. People just don't see it for some reason. Guess that's a side effect of addiction and Bungie is really good at that aswell. Creating addiction.

2 OdpowiedziDon't worry, at least we will get to bake cookies again for the dawning.
-
2 OdpowiedziMaybe players need to start valuing their own time and simply not play if they're dissatisfied with the content being put out. That way, when Bungie reviews the player numbers over this event, they will see a decline in the active player count. That will say a lot more about how players feel about this event than the posts people are making complaining about the grind while those same people are simultaneously forcing themselves through this ridiculous grind.

1 OdpowiedźAnd yet you still play everyday.

4 OdpowiedziTLDR. Their business model hasn’t changed since activision split. Bungle Literally told us that poo poo seasonal lite would be the status quo going forward . Why so angry
-
9 OdpowiedziIt’s literally free. Play, or don’t. Participate, or don’t. No one is forcing you. You don’t pay for it, so sunk cost fallacy isn’t at play, here. Wow. I mean, sure, it isn’t very deep, but it is free. Let it go.

7 Odpowiedzi
I have played Destiny since its release in 2014. I have been through the ups and downs with this game.
So from their point of view, you've been well served for the better part of a decade and are still here using the product. Why should they do anything different?
-
Solo bungie is a joke
-
I think the armour is worthwhile but not for hardcore players who already have armour just as good. It’s a catch up for non hardcore players but the grind for it is pretty steep so these 2 principles oppose eachother. They should just make events fun and wild. SRL had no real high end gear. You could farm crucible drops and get some unique armour but people played because the event was totally different. They should bring back srl.
-
1 OdpowiedźIt's good. I got shards for dismantling all the free armour.
-
Trying to milk every penny Instead of making a fun game…

Exactly
-
1 OdpowiedźHow'd you write all that and say nothing about the grind loop(the main focus of the event)?
-
3 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Demon_XXVII: 7/21/2022 1:12:29 AMI don’t think there’s been a decent “free event” in D2 since the very first Dawning in 2017 You sound actually earn armour, weapons & shaders through playing, Dawning Engrams, run entire strikes using just Snowballs etc & it didn’t have those stupid holiday treats either
-
Holyyyyy, the least you could do is give a summary. Gotta grab my reading glasses 🤓🤓🤓
-
It’s needs to be one of two things (or both): 1. A way for free to play and casual players to get good gear and catch up just a little bit / make their builds - I think they’re going for this but the grind is hardcore so it kind of fights against that directive. Hardcore players likely are the only ones able to complete a full set and they probably already have better gear. 2. Just make the event fun to play. Don’t make it solely about rewards. I loved sparrow racing, I played it just because it was fun and a change of pace. Yes there were challenges and gear but it didn’t really count for much. It was just really fun.
