  • Which either makes room for even more obnoxious play styles to step into the gap shotguns leave (which is what happened in Destiny 1).... ....or you make the spamming problem worse (Smoke 'em while you got 'em). So people aren't selective about where they use them. They just run around and try to use them while they have ammo. (Which is where we are now).

  • Most primary weapons kill fast enough when the game is working correctly. And you can even deal with some of the more obnoxious ohk weapons. Its just that those special weapons become overwhelming because they are used too often. Not because they are too powerful compared to primaries.

  • No they don’t. There is not a single primary weapon in the game where you can stand your ground and fight off a shotgun rush made by anyone who knows what they’re doing. You either have to team shoot…or try to backpedal and slow the rate of closure so you can find time for your weapon to kill. No other shooter makes you play like that. It’s a busted mechanic, caused by poor sandbox tuning.

  • Not to mention all the accuracy penalties that are in place for moving...in a -blam!- movement based FPS. You want any hope of your shots landing, you need to ALMOST always plant your feet (outside of minimal back peddling and strafing).

    That's just not true. When the game works correctly you can very much kill shotgun rushers. It has to be working right though and this is one of those things where SBMM and stuff like that doesn't line up with the way people say the game should work. If you have shot registration something like suharyas wrath is going to work mostly fine against a shotgun rusher. And if someone can't handle the person using special weapons then they are who the special weapons are for. But there has to be shot registration for the game to work right. And unfortunately the abundance of ohk leads to less shot registration. So special ammo needs to come down.

  • It’s absolutely true. So true that one of the major Destiny Pvp podcasters did an entire show on it. Crucible Radio. The need to backpedal in the face of a shotgun rush was referred to as “Creating Negative Space.” It was specifically stated that this was necessary to slow the closing speed of the rush and gain the time the weapon needed to kill. That was not necessary in the first few months of Destiny. It only became necessary when TTK was nerfed to the 0.8 secs that most waeapons now kill at. Which allows a shotgun rusher to dominate 8 meters PLUS the distance they can conver in 0.8 seconds. More if you miss headshots and therefor fail to realize optimal TTK. It’s why Cryoclasm (massively increased the distance that can be covered by a slide at speed) and Chaperone now are so oppressive. Because it can dominate 20 meters plus that distance that can be covered on 0.8 secs….and your getting one banged by someone starting at pulse rifle range. And you can’t kill them with that PR before the kill you.

    All I'm saying is that when the game works correctly and everything has its actual ttk there's no need for most primaries to be buffed from their current state in terms of how effective they are against special weapons. They're not really supposed to be as powerful as special weapons to begin with which is the reason that ohk weapons are called special. Their lack of power relative to special weapons is supposed to be offset by the amount uptime special weapons have (and if the game wasn't controlling everything, the skill of the person using a primary).

  • There is no “when the game works correctly”. Bungie hides the problem by harshly limiting the ammo of shotguns. So most people spend large parts of the game without the ability to use it. You’re trying to deny a problem that Bungie sandbox devs [i]freely[/i] admit to. That there is an imbalance between player movement speed and weapon lethality…and they admitted that it creates situations where the game isn’t fun to play. Only their solution has been to try to slow down player movement instead of (once again) buffing primary weapons.

  • There is too a "when the game works correctly." If things don't have the ttk they are said to have then its usually because the game isn't working correctly. As far as denying the problem... that movement imbalance that you bring up is only the beginning. They can't buff primary weapons because the reason that ohk weapons are favored is because there would be too much of a skill gap otherwise, plain and simple. That's why they do things to matchmaking that cause primaries to be even less potent. It really has very little to do with movement speed relative to lethality. The people who get superior movement speed relative to everyone else in the lobby have very little problem with primary lethality. And then when you put weapons that are meant for lower skilled players in their hands, that's how you end up with some of these completely indefensible K/Ds and people thinking they have super human videogame playing ability compared to everyone else. And like I said, more ohk means less shot registration. That's on top of the matchmaking and on top of crossplay. That's how you get what there is right now in control.

    The game hasn’t worked correctly in the last 6.5 YEARS. Shotguns and shotgun rushing is always a problem. Which is why the devs made no effort to deny the problem. Why in Gods Name are you going to sit there and argue that you understand the situation better than the people whose job it is to time the game. Why do you think shotguns got multiple nerfs and movement abilities got multiple nerfs going into this season?!?!!

[quote]Which is why the devs made no effort to deny the problem.[/quote] They've made every effort to because they act like the reason that things work the way they end up working is for everything else other than the fact that some people have a hard time and for whatever reason everyone is supposed to be in the same playlist. Or that they want certain people in other playlists. This game is not full of special weapon spam for any other reason than that its easier to manage for the group that they are catering to. Doing that also comes with the extra added benefit of a small group of people that will have completely absurd k/ds that no one with half a brain should be believing is possible. So it ends up looking like they are catering to that last group when in fact its actually the first group that the sandbox is designed for.
