She leans back, furrowing her brow. “They ask you to? So what, they’re all vampires, too?”

Blaze shakes his head. “No. And I don’t infect through bite.”
-
She slowly closes her eyes in brief relief. (Hehe, rhyme.) “Then... how do you get infected?”
-
(Ehehehe) “Ironically enough....blood.”
-
“Blood,” she echoes at length, a flatness in her tone. Her face turns slightly away in her suspicion.
-
“What?”
-
“Blood,” she says again, waving her hands in short circular motions in front of her. “Wouldn’t you only drink it after you’ve turned?”
-
“Yup. Buuut it doesn’t matter if I drank vampire blood or....got it splashed into a knife wound.” Blaze winces.
-
“Right...” A grimace faintly twists her features. “So you drink the blood of innocent people. And if you’re freaked out about people knowing you’re vampire then I take it you don’t normally get donations. Doesn’t that contradict the whole ‘hero of Offtopic’ thing?”
-
Blaze winces. “Please....don’t bring it up.”
-
She releases a short sigh before whispering, “Sorry.” Chip, now bored of Amber’s pets, reaches a large paw across the counter to poke at Blaze’s sunglasses.
-
“It’s fine....Dal can just tell you that I deal with that daily.”
-
Amber nods in acknowledgment. “So you didn’t choose this.” The statement was more of a conclusion to herself, but it sounds almost like a question. Chip pulls the glasses closer to himself. Then he leaps upon them with his little teeth, playfully chewing at the earpiece.
-
Blaze smiles and pets chip, before frowning. “I...yeah, I didn’t. It wasn’t smart to fight a cult of vampires by myself, but I never volunteered.”
-
Chip doesn’t seem to notice, so infatuated with biting at his “prey.” Amber’s expression softens to one of compassion. “That doesn’t sound like a walk in the park to deal with.”
-
Blaze nods. “It’s....not great. Especially when you have...I guess you could call it an anti-conscious? That makes you want to....attack things.”
-
“Oh.” Amber crosses one leg over the other beneath the counter uncomfortably. “How do you fight that?”
-
“It’s...a force of wills I guess. And I always win, unless I’m starving myself.”
-
Amber gives Blaze another quick once-over before acknowledging his words with a nod. “And you’re... fine now?” Chip raises his paw swipes at the glasses, causing them to slide a few feet away across the flat surface.
-
Blaze nods. “Pretty much. It’s only really dangerous when the voice and I agree....and that’s only when friends like Dal are being threatened.”
-
“I guess in some ways that could be helpful if you’ve got some bad guy causing trouble.” Amber looks over to where her coffee is being made. “But I hope that doesn’t happen often.” Before his handler can catch him, Chip pounces onto the sunglasses. The lenses scrape a little against the counter.

-
Chip light swats at Blaze’s hand as the glasses are taken away, though he doesn’t use his claw. Amber mumbles in annoyance at the feline and snatches him off the counter. “Sorry,” she says again before grabbing her coffee. “And thanks.”
-
Blaze chuckles. “It’s fine. And you’re welcome.....jeez I hope Fox doesn’t meet that little guy. Within a week she’ll be begging for cats.”
-
Amber takes a sip of her coffee, her other hand almost struggling to hold on to Chip. “That’s right, she likes animals. I’d offer up Chip, but I have a feeling he’d just end up on my doorstep again.” Despite her words, she smiles at the kitten fondly. “Do you think Fox would have any tips on taking care of cats?”
-
Blaze chuckles. “Probably! She knows a looot about animals and nature and...stuff.”
