Hi, there. As I'm sure many of you have already realized and some of you might soon realize, Armor 2.0 isn't all it's cracked up to be. Either through massive blunder and mis-execution, ignorance of players' outcry for a nerf to the cost of a Masterwork, or as an act to deliberately infuriate players, Bungie has once again taken a very simple problem with a very simple solution and somehow made it much, much worse. Without really talking about what else makes Armor 2.0 a disaster (like arbitrarily attaching elements to mods for no real reason than to artificially inflate gameplay time or changing the amount of dice you have to roll to get a piece of armor you want from two (perk slots) to six (attribute rolls), I want to go over the most glaring issue. The one the community has been begging to be fixed since before I started playing again in Forsaken after my post-Vanilla hiatus.
In it's old state, Masterworking a single armor piece costed a significant amount of enhancement cores, a relatively rare resource. Enough, in fact, that I never bothered to Masterwork a single armor piece because I could not justify the time spent versus the reward. After listening attentively to it's community, Bungie changed that system by adding two new resources with which to upgrade armor, one of which costs some of the other and the other of which costs enhancement cores. The problem arises in how the cost of the two interact.
The resource you need to finalize a masterwork costs ten of the resource before it. And that doesn't sound too terribly bad at first, until you realize what it costs to buy the first resource. Each one costs 10 enhancement cores, 25 Planetary Materials, and 10,000 (yes, that's ten thousand) Glimmer. If you need ten of these to get the last piece you need, you'll end up paying 250 Planetary Mats, 100 Enhancement Cores, and 100,000 (one hundred thousand) Glimmer. And that might not sound too bad. But you need two of those final resources, meaning that instead of 10 of the one before, you'll need twenty. This will cost you 500 Planetary Materials, 200 Enhancement Cores and 200,000 Glimmer.
This is what the last two of ten steps in Masterworking a single piece of armor is. If you wanted to masterwork a whole set (helm, arms, chest, legs, class), it would cost you 2,500 Planetary Materials, 1,000 Enhancement Cores and 1,000,000 Glimmer. And that's just for those last two resources you need. That doesn't count the fact that you have to use the resources you need ten apiece of on your armor just to get to the step where you have to spend ten of them for the other resource. Oh, and there's an inventory cap on both of these resources, both I believe are below 30. So don't get your hopes up on stockpiling.
Just to sort of let you guys know what you're in for if you haven't started yet.
Edit: I know you shouldn't expect to Masterwork an armor set in the first week. I know the mats drop from other activities. This post is about the fact that the community begged Bungie to tone down Masterworking cost and they responded by increasing it exponentially and complicating it.

The new system is not meant to masterwork multiple sets fyi
-
Oh my damn god. I’d rather grind out and MW my Solstice set than get all of that stuff Jesus!
-
Considering we can have up to 3 armor mods at a time per piece I’m not at all surprised. Got to grind for those perfected pieces now. But we can swap perks not to mention the universal ornaments so realistically whatever gear you plan on masterworking will be permenant. Your best bet: wait until you get armor from pinnacle leveled activities, see what you like and just masterwork what your favorite set is in terms of appearance/ element they are.

Ight, imma head out.

1 OdpowiedźLol another player that doesn’t understand a simple in game economy

2 OdpowiedziIt's too early to judge a new economy system one day after its release. I didn't have much time to play last night, but I got a bit of time in, and already have started collecting the new infusion currency through regular gameplay. You've also conveniently left out the detail that the two noted expensive materials are directly offered through nightfalls. Direct conversion from cores to higher-end currency is not the primary means of obtaining these items. Please don't misinform people.

Another manifesto from the hamster wheel . . . Just keep those legs pumping Mr Whiskers, you’ll get all the loot you will ever need. 👍
-
2 OdpowiedziThey did it on purpose so people wouldnt be maxed so quick. They will need it down.
-
Aww shit here we go again
-
by being frugal I managed to save up around 70 cores before shadowkeep............... fml.
-
Screw that I'll stick with my solstice armor that I already masterwork in the summer. Even though it only gives you a rank 7 in super energy with the super mods I rather have that then deal with this bs!
-
1 OdpowiedźYou people need to stop masterworking everything in the game and actually decide what loot is actually important to you
-
Is there a legit reason to masterwork for than 3 of each piece?
-
It does sound a lot. Not going to argue that. But if I have understood correctly you can do almost whatever with armour 2.0 and it is kimd of ’always valid’ if you get a roll you want? Even change the look. So investing into them doesn’t sound that bad..? I’m not sure though, haven’t learned what the armour 2.0 means yet..

1 OdpowiedźI’m ok with the grind. Something to do if you are super concerned about getting everything maxed out balls deep. Most players won’t get anywhere near max of they play a regular schedule. There is also probably a limit of diminishing returns for each increase. I suppose Bungie could reevaluate the grind over the next few months. If lots of folks are stuck at 7 or something they might reconsider the cost of upgrades. A still unanswered question is whether or not base armour energy increases depending on your light level? Will 950 armour drop at energy of 7 or 8?

That might be a bit much

very suck. its clear they want us to commit to only this game in our lives. they wanne be BAE. sorry not gonna be . and i will lose out because of it.

There are ways to acquire all of the high end materials through activities in the game. Buying prisms and ascendant shards is meant to be a backup plan if you come up short. However, I do think the cost of this backup plan is a little too punishing. I think you could halve the cost of prisms and shards and it would still feel like a reasonable investment. Might be too early to tell (literally still day 1), so I recommend playing it out for a week or so before making any rash decisions.

1 OdpowiedźBungo said they were going more MMO. This is it. Get your grind on. No matter what they do community will never be happy.
-
New flash, only masterwork your perfect rolled gear and builds. You can have perfectly fine functioning gear without masterworking it. Not everything has to be masterworked.

7 OdpowiedziAll that i learnt from this post is alot of people who dont play this game anymore still float around the forums whinging..

Edytowany przez użytkownika PkmnGymLeader: 10/2/2019 1:38:53 PMI'm looking forward to this. It was previously too easy to masterwork everything. I had all my weapons and armor masterworked months ago, with hundreds of cores to spare. I'm glad they're making it more of an endgame grind.
-
I think they said early on we'll be relying on old sets to get us by, then I think as you acquire those good pieces you might do half/half (old/new) till you get that set you want. I never thought I would have so many masterworked items back when cores were scarce, but now my vault it littered with them and I still have over 400 cores. So I'm not hitting the panic button on day one. I got into a good rhythm grinding cores I'm sure with time these new materials will be as easy to come by, if not then I'll just use my already MW gear.
