But lets not get too dramatic about it.
Most live service games see changes to the world, which means you can't get the old things in the old world back.
I highly doubt Bungie is just going to arbitrarily remove Strikes, or Crucible maps, or Raids, or anything like that. We are much more likely to see shifts in what already exists, similar to how Azeroth was scarred by the Cataclysm in the World of Warcraft. If new content comes in that overwrites old content by revamping planets, adding new Public events, new enemies and new patrols to areas previously unseen, I think it's going to be a great time, even if that means some of the old events need to go.
If your goal is to buy games for their content and play it as is 3, 5, 10 years down the road, Destiny is probably not for you. Go play The Witcher 3 or Skyrim or Breath of the Wild. Those games will never see live service overwrites of previous content, because they are not live service games. You buy DLC, it gets tacked on, and you keep it forever. No matter how old you get, the game stays as is, bloated with old DLC and all.
Bungie has stated that they want to go in the direction of an evolving, MMO world. That means that things are going to change and you won't be able to go back in time and do the things you missed. Play them while they're current, or don't. Either way, the world is going to evolve with or without you in it similar to how Azeroth did in several iterations. That is a good thing for live service games.
Furthermore, if $10 for 3 months of seasonal content isn't worth it for you, then don't play. If you're in the military and on tour for 6 months and miss a few seasons, that's OK too. Don't pay for those seasons, and you won't lose anything. You'll just miss out on what was available during that season, but who cares because you have other things going on in your life any way.
I sincerely embrace the direction that Bungie is going in with Destiny. I'll probably miss out on bits of seasonal content too, but that doesn't mean I want Bungie to wait for me until I return to the game. Time limitations in evolving worlds is a necessary step to keeping the world alive and fresh, otherwise we just get what we have now which is hundreds of Milestones, 90% of which most people don't even do because it's old news. I'm glad that is changing and there will be more agency with regards to player progression and the RPG power climb.
Edit: Just remember, you don't know the details of what content is going to have time-limitations, so don't panic and assume the worst. Live seasonal updates to keep a game engaging is much better than a game bloated by old DLC nobody plays anymore, especially when that game is played in an online-only world.
