Whether Luke is arrogant or not is irrelevant. This DC post is candid about any their development cycle and the struggles and feedback they received about it.
Making AP content was hard on the team, maybe too hard. He does not want Destiny to be a soul crushing crunch for the devs.
They enjoyed Gambit, and want to shrink it back to one activity.
The Reckoning showed the team that some of their Supers and Exotics backed them into a corner when it came to developing encounters. He admitted they had numerous rules about encounter design and over time they've had to break all of them to make encounters feel less cheesable. That's admitting he and others made mistakes in game design here.
In general, balancing making characters feel powerful without being truly overpowered for an activity has been difficult to get right.
MTX is here to stay, at least for now. Focus is cosmetic only in the shop. Personally I'm fine with this, if it helps keep the game funded it's no skin off my back. Better then Bungie running out of money or investors seeing Destiny as unprofitable and canning it.
General candid explanation of why things sometimes seem slow to progress (development in parallel leads to getting feedback on something after it's too late to go revise).
The guy isn't perfect, but this is not an arrogant piece. Read it without the "I hate Luke" glasses on.

I read the arrogant ones thoughts yesterday, my opinion of him hasn't changed. The mans a liability, arrogant and overrated. Take his advice and throw your money at the screen.

It is totally relevant. As a representative of his company, how you communicate with your customers is key to delivering your message. If you're arrogant about how you deliver your message, it won't be delivered. Simple as that.

Same logic applies; as a Chief Executive, it is your responsibility to place the ppl who don’t have communicative issues. Or past quotes that haunt them still as the “face” or “public relations” officer of a statement about to be made public. In my very humble opinion, Chief Parsons failed here. Nothing wrong with the message, and the merits of his post can be debated. I fully expect, and hope, they will. But, this message could have been better delivered by a community manager or from anyone who doesn’t have past arrogant and egotistical statements that may still haunt them. Having Mr Smith deliver this message was a poor choice and devalued the entire message. It could have been avoided, it should have been avoided.

I see it as a dbl edge sword. He was the one that needed to make it unfortunately he was the one that shouldn’t have. I feel like the DC wasn’t necessarily arrogant but we all know his “personality” (if you will) and that made everything he said just feel bitter. I feel like what was said was: 1) long over due 2) admitted some defeat/failures. 3) most importantly, gave reason for the issues (see #1) I didn’t take the DC as arrogant but as you pointed out was delivered by someone who fits that description.

Fully understand your post and agree. I know that Bungie works hard, VERY hard, it’s an extremely competitive and dynamic field they are in. And I know they are passionate about their creative work, I would be also. They create some amazing worlds for us to immerse ourselves in. I’m very grateful, and I buy and preorder. But, “development is hard” and “we can’t do both Gambit prime and Gambit” sits poorly with me. Equally as much as “throw money at the screen” or “I’m off to play Monster Hunter”. I am understanding of the difficulties any software developer has, equally as much as the difficulties ATVI faced in publishing. I always have been and I’ll defend Bungie’s work efforts and products. I’m not good on excuses though. Either do something or don’t, but don’t come whining to me about how hard it is bc, in all truthiness, that’s one of very few things I don’t understand. imho, this wasn’t a failure on Mr. Smith’s part as much as it was a failure from executive leadership. Side note: Right or wrong, Mr. Smith’s personality is cemented for a lot of ppl, and it’s not necessarily a positive. lol. Him calling out Datto, and using his video as evidence has forever to connected a very popular streamer to a very unpopular Bungie employee. imho, He hurt Datto’s career, inadvertently, but he did so nonetheless. There are active posts right now requesting us to unsubscribe that streamer. Streamer’s walk a fine line between being a tool of a developer or being a fan of the game. No favors were done by directly calling him out.

I’d be interested in hearing a little more on what is actualy making some of the development harder. I’m sure it is a combo of financial and physical but it may help understanding some decisions. Gambit and Prime....this is tough for me. I personally prefer the concept of Prime and love the idea of team based play equals better results (I’m generally a solo or 2 man team player). I prefer the one and done over the 3 rounds. The reward system needs tweaked for sure. Long story long, I’d kinda be ok if OG got the boot and Prime got an overhaul of sorts. Not that I want things removed from the game but if it allows for progress to flow better....I’m ok with it. As long as it isn’t a stalled effort like removing Trials, never understood how Comp “took the place “ of Trials. Also I don’t PvP
