Redundant and Boring Quests

In most recent updates new gear and weapons have been added into that game, which is a good thing, however the way they are added and how they want you to acquire them is questionable. Quest-lines are monotonous, boring, and unnecessary. is little to no challenge present within them and this is where the main problem arises. Quests expect you to indulge them with many hours of unnecessary playtime that has remained consistent since year 1. Its my hope and wish that this type of quest gets looked at and reworked because as of right now players are growing ever more frustrated. To get new gear in destiny a new quest or activity is released that allows you to do what it dictates and get said gear, but with the past few updates quests seem to be slowing down and mainly just filler. Making it clear i'm not complaining there's not enough time in the day to complete these or casual players have no place in the game, i'm just poking at the redundant way quests are being structured. Looking and the most recent being solstice it offers little content other than armor and a new area, this lack of content is hidden behind massive waves of mediocrity. Justifiably the EAZ is a solid area and really fun to play, but they quickly ruin it by making players who want the gear to delve into its repetitive nature for hours which kills its novelty almost on release. Those who want the armor it requires you to play gamemodes and complete tasks that players have been playing and completing since they released. This constant repetition and forcing players into old content disguised as new content kills the game making it job like. On top of quests being boring and frustrating, the quests have no challenge whatsoever. The quest for solstice armor is not even challenging just monotonous and redundant. When bungie described their game as no longer being for average players what me and many thought was the games difficulty was going to spike and getting gear would be harder and more rewarding, much like whisper and outbreak. Instead from whats been seen so far there is no difficulty and only hours of repetition and "go here" "collect that" this type of quest is what makes the game so unfun. Its bluntly obvious time filler quests conveniently right before shadowkeep releases. Overall i hope this type of quest doesnt carry over to future destiny due to how destructive these types of quests are. EDIT: rewrote due to missunderstanding

    I mean, I work full time, play 3-5 hours a day, and I’ll have my purple armor by tomorrow night for my Warlock, and that’s with targeted grinding. Casual play might take a week per character? Not too bad. It kinda sucks, but it’s not meant to be done in a day. Edit: I don’t bother with Powerful Rewards anymore, which gives me more time to specifically grind the armor, since I don’t need to chase milestones. Once you’re at max Power Level, there’s no need, you’re FREEEEEEE!

      They are making a game where people who want to put a lot of time into it have a lot of things to do, that is perfectly fine. Just because you personally don't want to allocate more time to it, doesn't mean it should revolve around you. If anything, you have TONS to do since every time you come back there will be somthing new to get on with or explore. Every game learns this lesson and I never saw World of Warcraft hold up the middle finger to their most loyal fans and avid game players just because a dad said they shouldnt be able to play more. As for the Solstice event quests, while I wont disagree they are tedius and not exactly a revolution in quest methodology. It would be untrue to say there isn't enough time to "catch up" or do them over the course of the 4 weeks we have. Are they boring? Sure after a while, if you do them all at once like I did you sure as heck will feel the burn of the grind, but that was also my decision to make. I completely finished a set of armor in less than a DAY... yet we have 4 WEEKS. There is plenty of time for you to relax and complete them at a leisurely pace. Everyone has 24 hours in the day you know. Everyone has stuff to do. This is somthing everyone must learn, and everyone must do for themselves. No one forced you to work for 9 hours a day to afford that sweet new TV. No one forced you to have 6 kids and try to provide for them all. No one forced you to get drunk with your friends on the weekend. No one forced you to take a holiday to the Bahamas. No one forced you to babysit a friends niece one night. School, Uni, Golf, Working out at the gym. No one forced you to do anything. Your lifestyle is what [b]you [/b]make it to be. [b]24 hours in the day[/b], you choose how you want to spend it. So stop dragging on people who choose to spend more of their hours playing the game that they want to play.

      • To be honest, Bungie knows that a player like you will not be able to grab all this garbage armor. They created this to keep the no lifers busy with a pointless, meaningless, boring, half baked, lazy excuse for an event. It is not here to say "thanks for playing our game for the last so many months/years, we really appreciate you and your support". Nope, you get feed bare bone lifeless fetch quests. To be honest, I don't think they care about the guy who spent $60 or more on the game and its dlcs. They focus more on whales and the like ( You know, like most of the ppl who defend evervese still in this game.). Bungie is not a consumer friendly co. If they really wanted to show appreciation, they would have put just an ounce of generosity behind these events. On plus side, everything that the robits acquire will be worthless a week after ShadowCreep drops. It's like this, if you really care about an armor set that every scrub, cling-on, nolifer, whale bozo will be wearing, then that is up to you. There will always be better looking and worthwhile gear to collect over the next year (Thats if you buy $hadowCreep).

        • Well you might just get a little help from Bungie. They delayed Shadowkeep by Two weeks. Ask nicely and they might just extend the Solstice Event Never hurts to ask. Just don’t be all toxic about it.

          • So you're saying you can't finish a character every two weeks? That's plenty of time. I work over 40 hours a week and I'm halfway through my first characters blue armor. It's not that bad honestly.

            • Yeah I just don’t bother with certain things I don’t have the time commitment for them. I already have a lot of armor with enhanced perks.

            • People who are saying you can't catch up, because of life, you probably arent. It isn't a bad thing, their are still plenty of things to do, and enjoy. If you are max light or close their isn't any thing you can't do. This game is always expanding,it isn't play through the 20 hour story mission and your done.

                I have a job 28hrs a week commute is to downtown LA from Canoga Park (48min minimum drive one way) I go to school twice a week all day. M, W classes- 3 hour lectures. Of course I also hang out with friends and I have other errands and obligations to do- like paying for the roof on my head and what not... I got my majestic armor today. You can do it if you know how to manage your time. The only unforgiving thing about this- is the fact that we are doing things in a tedious manner as the quest steps are tedious.

              • Work 48 hours a week and just unlocked blue armor on my titan 500 bounties seems alot but hey I guess I'll be doing every bounty every day to get that sexy ass gear and get a leg up on you in shaddowkeep. Hell they even extended this event three weeks. That's 7 weeks to do what needs done stop crying lol.

                Edit: This game is being set up for streamers and people that have time like kids/teens that are out on summer vacation, and the ones that do have a job that spends a lot of time grinding only go to work come home and play destiny and that is their life. Thank whoever that isn't my life. I bought D2 because I thought Bungie would have used their brain and created a decent loot system like D1 that gave a hell of a lot of people the incentive, motivation and the sense of value running the activities like D1. Boy was I wrong for even thinking that Bungie might create a game for the player base as well as themselves. Hell, why create in-game content giving the player base something worth wild to chase when we can have Tess drop the useless items like candy so we don't have to put much effort in designing the items. This way we can sell some of the items as well just by putting a little more effort into them. Oh! and let's remove factions that removed 9 sets of gear and weapons and Triles that removed 9 sets of gear and some weapons giving them less to grind for and extend the grind on what we offer. Tell them it's meaningful and it will help them make making meaningful choices. Edit: Bungie literally destroyed the concept of what Destiny was being created for creating D2 using Tess.

                • I have a job. I work out for an hour after my 8 hour shifts. I still play destiny, hang out with the family, and get decent sleep. Get gud (I’m pretty close to shadow also)

                    • Thats something I've been talking about since Forsaken. Whoever does the quest in Bungie doesnt understand what a "Fun Grind" is. A fun grind is " This reward is here, you dont know if you'll get it, however if you decide to invest time and effort, you "might" get it. Perfect example is the nightfall exclusive rewards. Is there for you to get it at will. Quests now are design just to be a mind numbing grind disconnected on how people play this game. It actually forces people to play the game unnaturally and to cheese the game to get the rewards. Perfect example are Pinnacle weapons, last word pvp progression, events. The problem is that they are even using other players to impede you progress to glue you to the game in hopes that somehow you'll get to progress while everybody else is trying to do the same. Perfect example, people sitting in spawn on Gambit for Lumina quest or AFK farming with macros. Competitive farm through server hopping with discord groups and other things. People want things as soon as possible in this game and so they will act on it with whatever means. That's how most play the game, so it damages the game modes for others who want to play the game naturally. Now you are competing against other people in strikes for kills with something or multi kills with something and if someone is not getting them, they will leave the game and so you wish they do so you can get what you want. The quest design has become a mind numbing grind that inspires individuality instead of cooperativeness. Doesn't matter how much time you have to do the things. Its how much it wears you down every time you try to do them because you are not doing it willingly anymore in a chance to obtain something. Its being demanded from you or else. People like to sit, do something and be done with it. Not do a little today and a little tomorrow.

I really enjoy destiny but because of real life circumstances its really hard to keep up with these types of quest tropes they've been using with recently, me and many other players are sharing the same frustrations of quests that only reward massive play time and mindless grind. i hope bungie looks at a different approach to their upcoming quests to make them fair yet not dumbed down. i guess the point of this is i should be enjoying the game, this is just 9 to 5 the game at this point. edit: People really seem to be missing the point im trying to maker here. I am not complaining that the game doesnt cater to "casual" players enough or that we dont have enough time to finish quests do to work, my point is that these new quests are not fun and reallly scummy and selfish on bungies part. clearly the grind that you have to take part in is insane causal or not and its just filler to create false content to extend playtime in while shadowkeep is in the works. i mean lets take a look and the bad juju quest and soulstice how much content did they bring about in reality? hardly any other than a new area to grind in and hours completing "collect this" "go here" "play 10 of these". once again bungie doesnt need to appeal to casual players they need to stop this trend of falsely extending out gameplay to get playtime from players.[/quote]

                      • Good comment. I had a look at the armament requirements and decided I am not going to waste so much time. Its always a hard choice but very rewarding, ie I now play how I want to play not how Bungie insist you play. Unless your an exhibitionist you can still play 99% of the game without them ans still have fun.

                      • I hear ya %100 as I have said Bungie idea of a 14 day vacation to Maui is row for 13 days then have a day to play we want to row a day and have 13 to play around !!!! if we have say 12 hours to play a week grinding for 3 weeks is not as fun as a half week grind then play it just pushes folks away I still am baffled at they just do not get it but they are for sure of a dif mindset is the only explanation I play a lot but wont be doing my 2nd and 3rd character anymore and also doing other games more in past I tend to just do a few games hardcore but this is getting silly I am finding simple iPad games more entertaining these days and that is pretty sad

                      • I agree! I’m maybe not one to talk because I don’t have a life. However, I have friends who do have lives, and I’ve noticed the unnecessary grind steps. You practically read my mind about the whisper, zero hour, and the other side missions. They are fun and difficult and aren’t “kill x 50 times” or “get multikills 50 times with y weapon type.” One or two of these steps are fine in an exotic quest, but the focus should be on difficult missions/tasks, not long grinds. It seems that many exotic quests have fun but hard final missions, but they are ruined by the 6 other steps of grinding to get to that point. While it is a long and not always fun quest, the izanami forge offers some of what I’m taking about. Only the beginning of the quest involves long steps of killing one type of enemy a bunch or something similar. After that, the steps are single completion activities, and there are quest missions peppered in too, to keep things interesting.

                        • Problem is, and same reasons I stopped playing. Love Destiny. D2 not so much. Anyways. Problem is they got lazy. They will add a bunch of remedial garbage instead of actual story and quests that are hard to do. “Making content is hard” right?! I said it before and I’m saying it again. Their are way to many hands in the cookie jar and communication is dam near impossible between the developer teams. On top of that, they all want to get paid and continue to get paid so that leaves focus on evercurse and dangling the non existent carrot in front of the hopelessly addicted. No more money from my pocket till they they get their shit together. Patiently waiting for Beyond Good and Evil 2 🤷🏻‍♂️
