Me trying to explain Offtopic to my irl friends
Friend: *looks at my phone* Is that the Pornhub comment section?
Me: What the... oh, nah, I swear, just happens to have the same colors.
Friend: *doesnt believe me, fair enough* What is it then?
Me: Uh, you remember the game Destiny?
Friend: Yeah, that was fun back in the day.
Me: Okay, well I’m on the Destiny community website, only I’m not actually talking about it. In fact, it’s a forbidden topic on a certain part of it.
Friend: *visible confusion* Okay, so what is it you’re talking about?
Me: Well right now I’m weighing the benefits of keeping the current government, a republic, or pledging myself to an empirical takeover.
Friend: As in, the US government?
Me: No no no, there’s a government on this section of the site... it’s kind of like a roleplay thing- no no not the kinky kind, more like D&D.
Friend: So you spend your spare time in a section of the Destiny website and roleplay as a supporter of a type of fake government?
Me: Well, sort of, I’ve always thought of myself as a bit of a wild card but you’ve got the general idea.
Friend: I don’t understand this place.
Me: *tries desperately to find an analogy* the vibe is sort of like Reddit.
Friend: *a dawn of recognition* Oh yeah?
Me: Yeah, it’s sort of like reddit, only much smaller and you know everyone there. People just post, like, random shit that wouldn’t belong on Facebook.
Friend: Sounds more like Tumblr...
Me: No no no, not at all... I’m telling you it’s more like mini-Reddit.
Friend: You need a hobby...
