I'm not 100% positive I'm actually smarter, but I feel like I am. I've had this feeling ever since high school. Most of the kids had no real understanding of time. Like, if our history teacher asked us: "what comes to mind when thinking about the 1600s?" My mind would instantly go to things like Handel or Bach, or Galileo and Francis Bacon. One kid litterally said he thought the 1600s were when WW1 happened?!? I don't understand how some people can be so oblivious to the sequence of history. Like, did Abraham Lincoln die in 1950?
Hell no!
And it's not just experiences like these that make me feel smarter. I aced the SAT, which was one of the reasons I got accepted to Harvard. That was all just before I discovered my inner bear identity. All the kids around me acted like the reading section was heard. It was easy.
I know I'm not better than anyone, but sometimes I cant shake the feeling that I'm smarter. I don't want to be an arrogant ass, but it's how I feel. Things come easy to me that most people find hard. I don't know why.
Am I some kind of egotistical narcissist?

Edytowany przez użytkownika Jotaro Kujo PhD: 6/29/2019 8:00:28 PMWeird bear shit aside, I'm going against the theme of the other comments and actually post something educational. If you feel this way about your intelligence, we can explain it in one of two ways: 1. You actually are more intelligent than your peers and have developed a complex because of it, or: 2. You aren't more intelligent than your peers and have developed a different complex because of it. If the latter is true (it is more likely), you are experiencing a part of what is called the Dunning-Kruger effect (link is to abstract; text is behind paywall). Someone else already explained it, but I will repeat it in my own words. The less you know, the more confident you are in your abilities; conversely, the more you know, the less confident you are. However, this is only true to a point. After reaching a global confidence minimum, your confidence grows as you accumulate knowledge, and you can eventually regain some of the confidence from when you knew next to nothing about a subject. The resulting curve resembles a severely deformed sine wave. However, let's consider that someone is experiencing the opposite of what you are, that is, they think they are less competent than they actually are. This opposite case is called imposter syndrome and it is extremely prevalent in graduate school as well as universities in general. As many graduate students would tell you, it can be a major component of many mental health issues in school. Western societies may preach being humble to children, but recognition of one's competence is very important to mental growth. One thing to note about SAT/ACT scores is that nobody other than undergraduate admissions committees will care about your test scores. Yes, getting into an Ivy League school is highly competitive, but many of the applicants to Harvard, Yale, Penn, or other Ivies have similar SAT/ACT scores. Admitted undergraduates likely excel beyond mere tests and have glowing letters of recommendation. Tests matter far less in undergrad than in high school and even less in grad school. What matters most is how you can apply your lecture knowledge to real situations and research/internship experience. Although I am a PhD student in the sciences, so humanities or business majors may have different opinions. It's common for teenagers and other children to feel like they know more than what they actually do, but it's still important to recognize there is still much to learn even as you grow older. Many scientists would even say that your intelligence isn't measured by what you know, but rather knowing what you don't know.

6 Odpowiedzi
Am I some kind of egotistical narcissist?
actually, i would say yes. Reason being is that you have created a shield for your psyche by identifying with a bear. Example. I have when i see a cute girl i cannot control myself, just like a bear. This is a two step action, First step: identify a character or personal flaw: The flaw here is a lack of self control. Second step: Remove self from responsibility: What you did here was instead of taking ownership of your flaw, you have created a 'security blanket' with your 'bear' identity. In essence you have deflect any and all responsibility for your actions by saying that it was the bear in you who did it. In all honesty, the whole bearsona thing indicates a form of self worship that is delusional in nature. So yes. You are an egotistical narcissist. Until you come to grips with who you really are, and take ownership for your actions, you will always be one
