Edytowany przez użytkownika Altmith: 5/4/2019 1:41:09 PMGrew up in a religious household. Once I got old enough to really start thinking for myself I started to notice hypocrisies in the way many religious people behaved compared to the text. Then I noticed it was also my religious community. I separated myself from the church then because the one thing I can’t stand is a hypocrite. I was... spiritual(?)... for a while after. I had the good fortune to spend some time living in each of the western capitals for the big three religions. See a lot of the same in all of them. Now I’m not even spiritual. Logic and reason win out. I have to look at evidence. Wherever it goes. And that’s irreconcilable with faith. Even in places we haven’t garnered an understanding yet. Because one day we’ll have an understanding of it. And I’m not saying we won’t find god there, I won’t know until we do. I’m saying I’m a student of history. Not that my mind can’t be changed. But it’ll take actual evidence to do it. Not a picture of a sunrise. Or a baby. Or something you just know in your heart to be true.

I'm not one of those "in your face" atheists, I just don't believe in religion. I believe in logic, reason, fact, and the freedom of mind. Religion tends to be illogical, unreasonable, false, and close minded with a specific goal of controlling people and the way they think. With such limitations being brought down on the believers how can anyone of them grow beyond their personal limits? I say don't believe in what religion tells you, just believe in yourself and see yourself grow to new heights.
-
Not exactly sure. I was maybe in the 4th grade and one evening at church I just stopped believing. Never told my family. Still haven't.

Edytowany przez użytkownika weirdboy99: 5/2/2019 8:33:57 AMBy what definition of atheis? One who does not believe in god? One who does not believe in a god? One who denies god? They seem similar but they are very different. I did not choose to be an atheist, I just do not believe in a god or gods. I could give plenty of reaaons why but they all come after the fact, I never believed in a god and I never will.

Religion can lead to some really bad things, so I’d rather not pick a side.

6 OdpowiedziIt’s not so much “choosing” to be atheist. It’s just I’m not convinced by any of the theist claims that there is a god. I have yet to see any evidence or hear any convincing arguments that a god exists. That doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t a god. I just see no reason to believe that there is one. So I guess that makes me more of an agnostic atheist. In the end though everything I’ve seen of the universe points towards purely natural causes.
-
Because believing is a waste of time
-
5 OdpowiedziI didn't choose to be an atheist. I was born that way. I chose not to follow a religion. We are all born athirst, it's whether we choose a religion to follow, that's the changing factor.
-
4 OdpowiedziIn this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god's blessing. But because, I am englightened by my intelligence.
-
I’m a militant agnostic, I don’t know what’s up there and neither do you!
-
It's not a choice but a realization of the truth, there is no god.
-
8 OdpowiedziIt isn’t really a choice. When I add two plus two, I don’t choose four as my answer. Four is the answer regardless of what I believe. If I chose to adhere to some religion and adopt its beliefs, I feel like I’d be lying to myself.
-
I simply see the truth. Religion is corrupt and just gives people an excuse to make their lives seem better but in reality it’s not.
-
Simply put, I think religion is a BS institution.
-
CRUSADE!!! I rest my case.

[Long story short, corrupt church leaders who last I checked were arrested for what they did. Fun times.]

It's as simple as this. When it comes to nature, reality, the universe, I'm only going to follow empirical evidence and proven facts and nothing else. I'm always gonna go with truth, no matter how it makes me feel. Theists hold up their holy books and declare it is truth. Those people don't understand what the definition of truth is. Truth is something that has been demonstrated to be true, and does not require your beliefs. Thanks for asking!

Edytowany przez użytkownika Crackerjack: 5/2/2019 11:58:51 AMI don't call myself an atheist, but I think I'm close enough. You ever have a food or a song that you really like only to find that as you get older, it just doesn't do anything for you anymore? I'm convinced at this point in my life that people don't choose whether or not they believe in something. There was a time when I was devote and fervent in my belief. At no point did I ever have a falling out, nor did I learn some solitary piece of information that threw things into doubt. I'd say the same things I said before, but it was like the part of my brain that goes "this is true" stopped lighting up when I'd say them. Perhaps I'll have faith again one day. I can't fathom it happening as there is absolutely no sense of superstition in my brain at the moment, but there was also a time that I couldn't fathom not believing. I guess the only take away from this is that the person you are now won't exist tomorrow.

Wow, it isn’t as salty as I thought! Well must be good fortune, g’day sir and I hope more posts that discuss differences are as nice as this one!
perhaps you could join the void...
It's just how I think. I like to have hard evidence to go off of, and there's nothing to definitively say there is or isn't a god. Plus, looking at the most popular religious texts, I don't find anything I would want to subscribe to, especially since many of them have been retranslated so many times that there are bound to be a variety of inaccuracies in each text. So, for now, I say there's nothing because that means one less thing to think about all the time. Will I get in to heaven? Without the concept of heaven, I don't have to think about that question ever. I'd rather focus on my studies than what happens after death. I won't say for sure there isn't a god, but I don't think there is.
-
I don’t really care. I just live my life and don’t really care if there is god or not.
-
I did my research, read the bible (old and New Testament), read most of the Quran, and watched multiple debates between scientists and religious advocates over roughly two and a half years to determine which side I found to have more reasonable beliefs. I found that every religion I read about was lacking the reason I desired.
-
5 OdpowiedziI'd call myself more Agnostic than Atheist. I'd like to believe in a guardian angel so to speak, but religion in general is horrible despite the cohesive cultural aspects they provide. And who wants to worship contradictory hypocritical assholes like the Abrahamic God, New Testament or not?

Edytowany przez użytkownika Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 5/1/2019 3:23:50 PMIt was more like a conclusion. I have yet to be convinced. What would convince me? I don’t know, but if there is a god, he knows what would convince me. And if he’s all powerful, he could show me what would convince me. And if my supposed eternal soul is of any concern to him because he is a “good” god, he would present it to me.
