Random rolls aren't needed. What is needed is a pool of mods that perks to guns. Firefly, 3rd eye, etc. A small pool for each weapon type would bring the grind people want while still keeping the game balanced.

In a game where the "grind" needs to be active in keeping a player engaged, random rolls on not only weapons but also on armor is necessary. It's either that or produce new content every 2 weeks which would have to bring new weapons, new armor, new shaders, new activities etc. We know THAT isn't going to happen so to keep people doing the "same" activities over and over, getting random perks is what kept D1 alive. Just perks in general need to be a part of customization. You say make the mod system better, I can simplify it further. The best way for a guardian to feel like he "earned" his weapon is like this. Every gun and armor should be earned through completing a specific activity. After the guardian acquires that weapon/armor, the perk slots on it will be blank. It will be at 0 everything. No perks, no recovery, no resilience, no mobility. NOTHING. THEN, you will go speak to whoever owns that armor (Zavala for Vanguard, Shaxx for Crucible, Banshee for Gunsmith etc.). They each will have daily and weekly quests and bounties which will give you (dare I say it), a token or a medallion or a currency of some sorts which you can take to a store of some sort (Eververse) and purchase ONE single perk. It can be whatever you want. But it will only fill one slot. Then the grind continues to fill the rest of the slots.
Random rolls isn’t what made D1 great guys..
True, but a loot based game needs a huge loot pool and random rolls was a simple solution to this problem. Without random rolls, Destiny needs to have ten times the loot that it currently has and designing and balancing each weapon individually is a time consuming job.

People want grind and random rolls provide a low effort way to partially satisfy those desires. I still think they overlooking the biggest removed grind: max grimoire score. That was a whole other level of grind that forced people into all content types. Got a lot more bang for the buck grind there

1 Odpowiedź
better archetypes and a better mod system.
That sounds like random rolls with extra steps. Let's be really honest here. Random rolls wasn't a perfect system, but they contributed massively toward the end-game grind and replay value of Destiny 1. Why? Because beyond just creating thousands of iterations of the same gun, minute variations in rolls appealed to the specific playstyles of different players. Some people like their ultra-high-stability lasers that take five years to reload; other people want to be able to reach out across the map and pop someone with their pulse rifle. In combination with different archetypes and specific guns, it creates gradients in which using Weapon A might give just a hair more Stability and a touch less Range than Weapon B, but hey---you find it works better for you.

Random rolls gives a reason to grind activities, moron.
-
That's your opinion. Personally random rolls was a big factor in the enjoyment of the game, I couldn't wait to get back to the tower to hand my engrams in.

4 OdpowiedziWhen you hit max light, there's nothing left to do. Random rolls would fix that.

1 OdpowiedźDo you realize what happened when rerolling was a thing? It brought out the addicted gambler in everyone and led to the Great Weapons Part depression. Guardians were doing shady things to get their hands on some weapons parts to turn in. I was that guy in the dark corner of the tower hangar giving out handy J's for some parts to reroll my stuff.

3 OdpowiedziYou must not of had the Dis-43. With Perfect Balance, Hand Laid Stock, & Full Auto. IMO, that was one of the best guns in D1.
-
If you bring back random rolls in D2 it will be highly underwhelming because Bungie has reduced power across the board anyway in a move to bring more balance to the Destiny universe. #makeDestinymoreRPG #lessbalancemorefun #nomorepuppetmasterdevelopers

Thank you. More mods...like..300 or so, turn famous destiny one weapons perks into mods, add more mod slots on the weapons and gear, and put those mods in the endgame content. Boom there is you're grind.
-
I'm siding with the OP on this. Start with good weapons. Add a mod system that allows you to go to the gunsmith and buy the exact mods you want. Maybe two mods per weapon, plus the ability to change element. Do you think people would grind out multiple of their favorite guns just to keep trying out mod combinations? You're damn right they would.
-
Maybe a modification to how masterworks was implemented will work. I believe it was Houdish that had a few good points about adding another slot with more perks for the masterworks.
-
Yes. Exactly. Look at the Raid weapons from D1... Fatebringer, Black Hammer, Fang of Ir Yut, Genesis Chain etc All guns that never had random rolls, and all some of the best guns in the game. They were awesome because of how they handled and felt...they just felt good to shoot with. Sure you get a god roll on other weaps, but these ones came out of the box with good perks that made the weapon feel awesome. This is what the game needs more than Random Rolls. Better weapons that feel epic, not watered down pea shooters because of PvP
-
What made D1 great was the fast faced Pvp and powerful exotic weapons. Grinding for a good roll in the midst of shit rolls intrests you?
-
Hell yeah, because the great guns on D1 where all fixed rolls. The Osiris Auto Rifle and scout rifle, Fatebringer, Black hammer, Visions of Confluence, The FB Roll Scout rifle (Dead orbit). Save for a few god rolls hand cannons, the great weapons where all fixed. The good weapons where randoms.
-
-blam!- random weapon rolls. It just got in the way of playing the game and creating unnecessary grind.
-
But I want to kill Omnigul 286 times in a row to get my God roll Grasp of Malok!.....oh wait... no I don’t. I agree. All the rolls are there for us. They just have different names and skins.
-
It would make the game better and would make rubbish guns great and more of an incentive to play pvp would be more varied instead of the same 6 guns

18 OdpowiedziSorry you're catching all this flack man. I dont know why anyone wants to playtest 100's of uriels gifts. They're missing the point that the system in place is essentially Random Rolls but just assigned to the gun itself. ie. Uriels vs Jingashi vs origin story vs prosecuter etc..
logic is wasted in this forum
Couldn't agree more

Yes. Bump.
