I like how people complained how D1 had no story so D2 fixed that but now the issue is no one even paid attention to it lol. That's all I'm getting out of this thread. the shard had only so much light to give, and it was all given to your guardian. The ghost mentions it various times when you get there. So there's not enough to give to every guardian out there, plus its referenced the light "chose" your guardian to give the light to rather than anyone else. That should answer why "your" guardian is the only one that got the vision.

    Why does it have to be MY guardian? What makes my guardian so special? The problem with destiny's "story" is that the game talks about all these guardians (and you see them in game) and fireteams (strikes, raids, crucible, etc.), and yet it's just the ONE guardian that's saving the world.

  • Regarding the question for it being YOUR guardian chosen to wield the light of the Shard: You destroyed the Black garden by yourself. A living god. You destroyed Crotas soul by yourself. Another god. You defeated several fallen leaders like Draksis, and captured Skolas, a particularly dangerous Kell. By yourself. You killed the physical form of Oryx. By yourself. You killed 3 SIVA-fied Iron Lords and destroyed the replication chamber. By yourself. Lorewise, you technically did all the things in the campaigns by yourself. Im not including strikes and raids of course. Put all these things together, and you're practically the greatest guardian who's ever existed. The only ones I'd say that rivals you are the missing ones such as St. 14 and Osiris. Toland too. Even during Homecoming, Zavala is one of the best legends of humanity, and he "doesn't shut up about you" according to Amanda. Destiny can't be like Dark souls where it can make its Narrative story and multiplayer somehow make sense lorewise, so you're totally right. But I don't think most MMO's can either. Not like many find it such a massive problem.

  • I find it odd you didn't include the raids. That's how you beat Atheon, Crota, Oryx and Aksis. Which you can't do without a fireteam. At all. So saying you're solo except for game mechanics is flat out wrong. You'd be better saying that your character is the prime Guardian of the time but even the dialogue supports the fireteam theme as well as the solo theme. It's both. Take Kabr. He was a legendary Guardian in his own right, his fireteam not so much.

  • I never mentioned the raids because you actually do those with a fire team lorewise. Strikes too. Campaign missions are lorewise done solo.

  • So the key moments that make you legend you leave out? I mean yeah we are the prime Guardian of the age but we aren't a solo act. It makes sense that we get the Light back first but the base game is just the opening chapter. Even then it's only roughly half of the base game taking into account the post game. After that it's back to the fireteam. I'd say it's split well enough that while we are the pivotal character we wouldn't get anywhere without the team.

  • "Key moments that make you legend." I like to think soloing Oryx's physicals form, the entire Siva Replication chamber, Crotas soul, the Kell of Kells, and the Black garden, a God worshipped by time travelling Vex are part of the key moments that make you legend. I don't remember if our guardian is ever mentioned fighting alongside a fireteam during a campaign mission, or any form of dialogue during the campaign. So I think you pretty much are supposed to be a solo act during all of D1 and D2's campaigns. I think raids and strike are definitely done lorewise by your character and a fireteam, but because of all your achievements, you definitely stand out among the rest. You're like the gold medalist that's remembered, and then there's silver.

  • Would we of been strong enough to beat Crota without first defeating Atheon? Would you of fought Oryx if you hadn't killed Crota in the raid? Without the Light you gain from TTK, you wouldn't of been strong enough to conquer the replication chamber. Like I said, we are the prime Guardian of our time but without the fireteam our legend would of stopped at the Garden. Strikes are also key development points and again, fireteam lore wise. There is too much hanging on the fireteam to say it's a solo act. It's a group act with one A lister and two Bs.

The fallen were there too of course, but we stated the chamber specifically. Fire teams are there to help us, but never lorewise. I'd like to point out the fact that I'm not disagreeing with you on anything involving strikes or raids. Those are lorewise done by a fireteam, since they actually do require more people. Plus Kings Fall and Wrath of the Machine have quests stating that you must gather a fireteam anyway. I'm only arguing the fact that the campaigns of Destiny are, lore wise, done solo, alone, by your guardian.

  • I never said otherwise, that's why I said on the whole the solo vs the fireteam is split too close to call it a solo act. Atheon had serious tricks but was weaker then Crota. Just look at the requirements, each boss is progressively stronger. It shows the sliding scale of your power vs our enemies. We grow stronger with each challenge so we can confront the next. We banished his soul. Eris said so and Ascendant Hive when killed in the material world go to their throne worlds. The crystals seem to be the material worlds equivalent to the oversoul, a way to prevent the return to the throne world and the steeper cost of resurrection. Yet we, a newborn Guardian not a year old killed a Hive God whose destroyed who knows how many civilizations, a Leviathan and a Worm God and has been killing and growing powerful for how many tens of thousands of years? So clearly being a "God" is an assumed title based on ego and not some inherent special power. Again, the sliding scale clearly shows Aksis is stronger. It's just the bag of tricks that is different. Our powers are cooler but SIVA can clearly cut us down, like it did to a 100 iron Lords. Also at this point it's been clearly established that our Light has been growing over the victories. So yeah obviously Aksis was stronger then Oryx. I'm sorry but how can you say that lorewise there isn't support for the fireteam then in the next sentence say that lorewise strikes and raid take a fireteam? Lorewise, after the Garden, we would of never beaten Crota without a fireteam. Which means our legend would of stalled there until he came back or the events if RoI. The Light difference between DB and RoI is huge. Which means we would be much weaker and not be able to defeat Aksis without another Great Disaster type incident. So lorewise, yeah, the fireteam aspects are just as important as the solo.

  • You didn't. That's the whole point. From the perspective of the story and those within it, we were all alone. My guardian is the one man army, so is yours, so is everyone else's. During the campaigns and story missions there was no fireteam. Just a lone guardian on a mission to save humanity. Yes other guardians existed but ours were the ones fighting the true battle. Going on an all out offensive against our most powerful enemies. We are the Traveller's chosen and the best hope for humanity.

They are usually the first to March onto the forums screaming "plot holes, no story, Bungie lied." I was casually paying attention to the dialogue and still fully heard and understood that part.

  • I actually got pretty ticked when the party I was in got rowdy when I was trying to listen to the dialogue, the campaign was amazing, especially loved the tank mission on your return to Earth to retake the city.
