That is to say, Destiny is the most sophisticated and ambitious FPS PVP ever developed.
I look at COD and Halo as glorified games of tag. They're fun as hell but most guns are usable and Everyone pretty much has the same character. Kills come easier, etc.
Destiny makes you work for kills. The time to kill is just long enough to give you an ulcer.
Between the classes, sub classes, weapons rolls, armor builds and skill tree preference, a player can be radically different from their opponent. It's a very rich and dynamic experience.
Not to mention the fascinating science that goes into the way the guns perform. The guns feel alive. They have personalities. We're attached to them. We love them as much as our own children.
This isn't a diatribe of my musings on the topic of the crucible. I'm just giving some credit where it's due.
We're pretty damn lucky to have Destiny at all. Not to mention that the crucible is the best PVP ever.
ALL THAT SAID. I'm fully aware of the red bar curse. The infamous and and favorite Tefty topic: the dreaded net code. I am fully aware that the lack of dedicated servers greatly hinders the potential of what is already a fantastic game. I get that there's always an OP weapon, subclass or ability.
I'M INTIMATELY AWARE OF THE NEGATIVES OF THE PVP EXPERIENCE.
But all of that crap mentioned above will someday be remedied and put in the past forever.
That's not the hard part. Creating what we now have, this utterly sophisticated, game changing evolution of the multiplayer experience was the hard part. Conceiving it and building it was the mountain Bungie had to climb. But they did it. They delivered far more than just a glimpse at the future of FPS PVP. They almost nailed it on the first try.
So why do we complain so much about PVP? Wouldn't it be worse to see all of the ways the game design could be improved? To be totally disappointed by what could have been?
I think so. I'm content because dedicated servers, a polished net code and 60 fps are on the way. This game will someday play like Jimi Hendrix did the guitar.
We need to remember that. We need to remember that Destiny is already Jimi Hendrix. He just needs to refine his style a bit. It's like, 22 year old Jimi.
That's such a far better position to be in than if Destiny was nowhere close to being Jimi and was more like the guy from Nickelback. You can't fix nickelback. You can fix 22 year old Jimi Because the law of inevitability says that 22 year old Jimi will someday become the legendary Jimi.
So be grateful Bungie's on the path of inevitable greatness and maybe complain less about the same issues that they too despise and are hell bent on correcting.

2 OdpowiedziI'll second it, halo CE was a great game, but limited. Bungie had a solid foundation, halo 2 built on that foundation massively and delivered us the best PvP game ever. Subsequent games just added to that legacy. Not to flog a dead horse, but now legacy consoles have been dropped, I'm hopeful for rise of iron and very excited for the full sequel.

3 OdpowiedziInteresting opinion and I appreciate the execution in your point! I have the opposite view though. I think that because of all its factors such as perks and builds and unbalanced game modes it makes the experiences so radical. The bullshit factor of pvp is through the gahdamn roof in these scenarios unless they are balanced well, and let's be honest they aren't. Take IB or ToO. I have never experienced such extremes in gameplay like I have with Destiny. ToO can't get past 3 wins and get matched with -blam!-ing pros. In IB I got 11 straight losses with one character and 6 straight wins on another. Don't even get me started on damage. Why does the same gun take 4 head shots to knockout their shield and his takes 2? Why does my animation for a melee happen on screen but no damage is done? Why does my Universal remote bring 1 player down to a sliver at point blank and his straight up kills me? Think of all the rage you've experienced in pvp and it usually comes down to these kind of scenarios. The crucible needs some work and pve needs some more love. Hopefully Destiny 2 will have these things, but as it stands right now Destiny is a shadow of what it could be (granted it has been getting better).

Halo best PvP. Times to kill are about the same. Competitive scene was a lot more enjoyable to me personally.
-
Destiny PvP is a great concept with horrible execution. Between lag, shots not registering, grenades doing no damage and the buggy hit detection I'd say the PvP overall feels more like a beta than a complete game. It's a shame because the potential is there like you said, Bungie seems lost and confused as what to do with it.

That's what makes destiny unique. #destinyIsLife

12 OdpowiedziI respectfully disagree with you. Battlefield 4 has more layers to it's gameplay than Destiny. Destiny doesn't have vehicular combat or environmental destruction. In Destiny it is all about the same tactics. Use your gun at the intended range, fling a grenade or 2, fight over Heavy, use your 1hk Super to net a few kills. In Battlefield 4, a player in a helicopter is having a very different experience than the guy in a tank. The guy who is hiding behind the wall is not safe, as the vehicles can drive through the wall or just shoot it. If you die a Medic can revive and heal you. If you need ammo a Support guy can drop it. If you need repairs on your vehicle the Engineer has got you covered. All the weapons can be customized to make them better at what the players want to use them for. Massive battles make you think more about the long term than just getting more kills than the other team. I loved my LSAT LMG more than any other gun in any other game ever. It could be used at longer ranges if you treated it right. The shotguns could be made better for clearing rooms or eliminating a single target at farther ranges. Sniper Rifles could be given Canted Ironsights for those quickscopers, or given high zoom scopes for those who love to strategically camp. Hell even the pistols are better than what Destiny offers. The only reason I don't still play BF4 is because on the 360 there is such a low population playing that the servers are kinda crap. Yes, Destiny is more advanced than COD and infantry fights in Halo, but I'll take vehicles over Supers any and every day. Nothing like ending a camping Sniper with a high velocity bumper.

It's far from sophisticated. .it's a hybrid of mmo and standard PvP, and not even a good one.
-
Sorry bro, but I have to disagree. Pvp is fun not sophisticated one bit
-
CSGO, Halo, UT3...All of those are more "sophisticated". In Destiny if I really try and am in the mood for PvP I usually do the best (not counting the BS that is ToO). On the other hand if I try just as hard in Halo I come in maybe the top half of my team, and I'm mainly a Halo player. Destiny takes no skill. I mean I enjoy the game and everything but it's PvP is the worse I have seen in a game for a long time.

4 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Mr Fats: 8/1/2016 6:26:24 PMI disagree with the part you said PvP is fun... I am sorry but very few of my games are "fun", most of them are extremely frustrating. Also, no ranked lists, no map selection/voting, not knowing what map you are going into, not know what weapons you will need to you until you land on the map, not being able to switch weapons without losing layout etc DOES NOT make it the most sophisticated PvP game at all... far from it. CoD, BF4 are miles ahead (specially BF4) in regards next gen or sophisticated PvP games... Destiny PvP is it just a quick thing they did in the last minute to allow people to play PvP... or at least thats how it feels. And now almost 2 years later is still not even close to what a proper PvP should look like...

3 OdpowiedziThe OP wrote one of the biggest piles of nonsense I have ever seen on this forum...... the pvp in this game in its current state is irredemably broken on a fundamental level....because the very basics needed to make a good PVP experience DO NOT WORK...

Edytowany przez użytkownika TrooperHR: 8/2/2016 12:58:11 AMThe path to greatness. 2 years since release no progress, PVP is in fact WORSE. (How sad is that?) If only I had the time but on this time scale PVP will be "great" by the time I'm 47 and arthritis made my fingers look like french fries.

Bait I hope..

In defense of Nickelback, they had a time when success was in their hands and their music was actually good for being a Canadian Rock band. Your use of Nickelback only shows one thing in the end...
They won.
3 OdpowiedziPVP is so imbalanced n the devs said they want it this way...they said they want every gun, ability, super to have there moment to shine...this is not a good thing at all in my opinion
-
1 OdpowiedźI agree, but it's too bad bungie can't figure out shotguns... They need to be balanced impact to range, so it's either a 1 hit kill super close or a 2 hit kill from a bit of a distance
-
I agree.
-
2 OdpowiedziI agree and understand where you are coming from, but for my money Modern Warfare 2 was the most fun. Sometimes we forget that PvP should be fun.
-
You are joking aren't you??? This is by far the worst pvp on the market. Primitive, basic, laggy, no consistency and boring.
-
Preach it! I agree. The whole process is, in my experience, very streamlined. A lot of stuff is going on in the background to make the gaming very enjoyable and approachable which is a big part of the hallmark of a great game. It looks great and plays great. Props Bungie.
-
That's true, the way destiny feels and the gunplay in this game are second to none.
