I agree. Let's also get rid of sharp objects, blunt objects, rope, toxic chemicals, heavy machinery, and hands. Just to make sure we get lethal weapons out of the hands of dangerous criminals.

Those are not intended to be weapons though. Firearms are intended to be weapons.
-
The origins of "sharp objects" in the context of a human tool is as weapons.
-
Still not intended to be weapons.
-
Killing someone with a handgun is worse than strangling them to death?
-
Are your hands weapons?

Edytowany przez użytkownika Autolycus: 5/13/2016 10:15:24 PMFunctionally. Does the hammer care if it's bashing skulls or building a house?
-
Was the hammer created to be a weapon?
-
What makes you think it matters?
-
You called tools, body parts, and chemicals lethal weapons. They are tools, body parts, and chemicals. Guns are weapons. Just making sure it's clear.
-
They are chunks of matter, and can all be wielded to kill someone. A "weapon" is just an idea.

Congratulations, you know how to post links.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Olmeck: 5/13/2016 11:31:04 PMYeah did you read the beginning?
A firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon...
-
Do you have a point?
-
I'm not sure. Do you still think a weapon is an idea?
-
If I made a knife for cutting rope, and an identical one for slitting throats, is one not a weapon but the other is? Would you ban one and not the other?
-
Apparently yes you still think a weapon is an idea. You don't understand the fundamental difference between something that is designed to cause bodily harm and physical damage and something that is not.
-
Does the object care what it was designed for? Does the murderer care what it was designed for? Does the victim care what it was designed for? A lethal object is a lethal object.
-
Edytowany przez użytkownika Olmeck: 5/14/2016 12:08:08 AMNow you are talking about the intention to commit murder vs something that was specifically designed to inflict damage. You are trying to turn this into something it isn't. All I want you to see is you can't call things that were designed for something else lethal weapons because they aren't until someone turns it into a weapon. A gun by definition is a "lethal" weapon. It has one purpose.
-
Edytowany przez użytkownika Autolycus: 5/14/2016 12:50:43 AMA knife isn't a lethal weapon? When are you going to understand? Design intentions are completely irrelevant.
-
It's a tool.
-
Even if it was created for the explicit purpose of stabbing people?
-
That's not why it was created.
-
You've never heard of a combat knife? Also, your argument is entirely build on a thin bit of semantics, and is yet to provide any actual reason it should matter what an object was designed for when it has the ability to be lethal either way.
-
I'm just trying to see how stubborn you truly are. I also wonder if there are other firearm owners that don't understand the difference between a tool and a weapon.
