Effective Sniping Requires: Mobility, a steady hand, good hand-eye coordination, and superb aim.
Effective Shotgunning Requires: Situational Awareness, Quick Reactionary time, and the ability to prioritize targets.
Now let me say this, I'm not saying shotgunning is harder then sniping. The average sniper is better then an average shotgunner. But a good shotgunner is definitely better then most snipers.
Sniping isn't as easy as it looks, but you have to look at a few things.
If you put a sniper at one end of the smaller hallway and a group of 4 on the other, a good sniper would have no problem taking them out 9/10 times that situation happens.
Now
If you put a shotgunner in a room with multiple exits with four enemies around him, they have to worry about a few things.
1. How many enemies are here
2. What equipment do I have to help me survive
3. Which enemy is closest, and which presents the biggest threat.
4. Is there anyway to get out of this alive, if not, how many can I take down.
Now before people attack me saying I posted this because I can't snipe, I usually play on striker titan, and shotguns compliment the class well, also because titan skating is extremely effective once learned. (As seen here https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w)
Because the amount of hatemail I get for titan skating up to people at 100 MPH and sticking the barrel of my shotty down thier throat is ridiculous. (No I don't use Juggernaut, Shoulder Charge builds up way to much speed for me not to use it, I dont tank the shots, I just move fast enough to disorient people)
Basically, in terms of learning curve.
Good Sniper > Good Shotgunner > Average Sniper > Average Shotgunner

I can't snipe at all so my go to secondary is the shotgun and I think you're right. A shotguner has to deal with the fact that they may not survive the encounter, it requires more quick thinking and strategy than staring down a hallway for most of the match. I had one incident where I made a wrong turn and found myself face to face with most of the enemy team so I shot the closest with my suros dis 43 and got the kill while moving to cover and then two of them followed me so I turned and got one with 2 shots from invective and killed the next with one shot and a melee, after that the fourth one finished me off. Another time I got a buckshot bruiser medal by taking down three shoulder charging titans. But really both weapons take skills to use effectively and equipping one or the other doesn't make you instantly amazing.

In the end, why does it matter? Not hating on post, I think it's a good topic but trying to determine who's better depending on weapon usage doesn't make sense. Idk that's just me

2 Odpowiedzisnipers ruin objectives.... stand from afar hardscopping hoping for that control point to capture itself... now a shotgunner will blast through a crowd of enemies and capture that flag no matter what...... also redbar snipers shooting through walls and around corners, aint ever met a sniper who's good team player in rift and control... amen mother lover's

Being a good shotgunner is the same as being a good sniper, just as being a bad sniper is as easy as being a bad shotgunner.

5 OdpowiedziLong story short: The skill gap for sniping is huge compared to using Shotguns. With Shotguns you can only get so good, with snipers you can always aim faster, drag more about consistently, memorize head level at any map location etc.
-
Harder with a shotgun. You miss the other guy can finish you. You can double tap a leg and kill from a safe distance with sniper.
-
Hah, funny

I'll summarize it like this: When I use a legendary shotgun on my Titan I usually lose to other shotguns because of things like flame-shield activation, melees not connecting, etc. Switches over to Chaperone and that mostly changes. Since I've spent so much time running snipers and scout rifles on my Hunter I am far more used to that and will normally outdo other snipers, but I'll lose almost every time to decent shotgunners because I'm not used to dealing with close-range engagements. More or less, you gotta focus on your weak points when using a certain weapon or class and try to avoid/prevent your weaknesses.

3 Odpowiedzithere is no skill involved in shot gunning. equip shotgun, run around small maps in circles, repeat the process. Get more one shot kills then a sniper. tbag. I got a message from a shotgunner yesterday. Joined a match that was on going. it was 2 v 3 a team. I kept sniping them. When I'd get killed around a corner from 20 feet away by a slide shotgun. I'd get tbagged. At the end I head shot one and storm called the other as the match ended and tbagged back and got a message that read. "you are noob fuc your mom bit-ch". I laughed, cause it shows the lack of skill involved. Bungie either needs to make a shotgun be two shot like most sniping is, unless its at a foot away. Or bring up the damage on all primary weapons so when you see someone running at you from 20 feet away and they start to slide, they die. Instead they slide and kill you from that distance. I don't mind shotguns. I run them from time to time and it was my go to for a long time. Cause my sniping skills weren't that great. But there is way more skill involved in sniping then there is in shotgunning. Can't even compare the two. Specially now that everyone cried and ruined sniper rifles.

Honesty I used to be a pro shotgunner. Like almost never missed in year one. Around the last 6 months I've been consistently sniping. And have gotten pretty good with it. But now whenever I try to shotgun, I see myself missing terribly. I can say with honesty that they both take skill.
-
Plus shot gunners need to close the gap and dodge
-
So what your saying is be a good sniper
-
I don't really know about that lol all you need to know is the range on your shotgun to get a kill. It's not hard to shotgun on a titan at least run striker and stand a sides ( exotic boots) And just make people rage. I was also a big blink shotgun player so I know shotguns. I snipe now and it's harder to snipe the just shogun and I am not a bad sniper.

Opinions are neato.

This post is so true!! I must have too little skill because when I snipe people with my conspiracy theory, I feel like I'm using LDR or 1kys.
-
Of your beginning sets of skills needed, the first two of your shotgunner skill lost are also needed for sniping. Both are vital in case someone manages to get too close, too quick. I also didn't read past that beginning part. Make a tl;dr.
-
No. I'm sorry but anyone can pick up a shotgun and get kills; you can't do that with a sniper. While sniping is not hard it still requires some precision aiming. This is from personal experience and the large pool of friends and randoms that I have played with, with their skill levels having a huge range. The only argument that can be made is that it is easier to dominate with a sniper then with a shotgun (in the hands of a skilled player). A skilled sniper can lock areas down where as they would need to close the distance with a shotty. But give any average player a shotgun, or anyone rather who is struggling in pvp, and they will be able to get some kills. Give a mediocre player a sniper and they need ti be will be lucky in order to have some sucess.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Calladayce Kesh: 4/22/2016 7:33:20 AMtldr: your argument is invalid I think that ur argument is kinda flawed. u were saying about a sniper aiming at 1 corridor so surely u should be using the same situation for a shotgun. if u were going to be doing it the other war round with a sniper in a room with 4 people coming at him then the requirements would be the same. you can't make an argument like that whilst using different scenarios
-
Yea....nooooo. And I say that as someone who's pretty good at shotgunning. I've been trying to get better at sniping and it requires much more skill than shotgunning it's also more rewarding. In such a fast past game sniping requires you to be aware, but as well be mobile. Hardscoping gets you punished quite frequently. Also take into consideration the maps. Majority of them are small with tight corners. Great for sliding and shotgunning. Being decent with a shotty is like shoulder charge, low skill great results.

5 OdpowiedziYeah running in a straight line with a shotgun and casually shooting them, (because primary weapon ttk is pathetic) really is a hard art to master.

For a shotgunner, death is a natural part of the game, for snipers that usually hang back it isn't, who do you think got shotguns nerfed? A lot of snipers who were getting outmaneuvered by a skilled shotgunner, and just about everyone got snipers nerfed because, with the shotgun nerf a lot of people picked up snipers because they were the next viable option, it's human nature
