Effective Sniping Requires: Mobility, a steady hand, good hand-eye coordination, and superb aim.
Effective Shotgunning Requires: Situational Awareness, Quick Reactionary time, and the ability to prioritize targets.
Now let me say this, I'm not saying shotgunning is harder then sniping. The average sniper is better then an average shotgunner. But a good shotgunner is definitely better then most snipers.
Sniping isn't as easy as it looks, but you have to look at a few things.
If you put a sniper at one end of the smaller hallway and a group of 4 on the other, a good sniper would have no problem taking them out 9/10 times that situation happens.
Now
If you put a shotgunner in a room with multiple exits with four enemies around him, they have to worry about a few things.
1. How many enemies are here
2. What equipment do I have to help me survive
3. Which enemy is closest, and which presents the biggest threat.
4. Is there anyway to get out of this alive, if not, how many can I take down.
Now before people attack me saying I posted this because I can't snipe, I usually play on striker titan, and shotguns compliment the class well, also because titan skating is extremely effective once learned. (As seen here https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w)
Because the amount of hatemail I get for titan skating up to people at 100 MPH and sticking the barrel of my shotty down thier throat is ridiculous. (No I don't use Juggernaut, Shoulder Charge builds up way to much speed for me not to use it, I dont tank the shots, I just move fast enough to disorient people)
Basically, in terms of learning curve.
Good Sniper > Good Shotgunner > Average Sniper > Average Shotgunner

I agree with you sir. Shotguns aren't that consistent like snipers. But that's okay. In my choice It's better to move around and take all enemys like a real challenge than changing spots and wait (camp) for the enemies with a sniper. But that's everyone's own prefer

1 OdpowiedźJust curious about how you figure scoping down a line of fire (hallway), waiting for a shot, requires that much more skill than the way you describe shotgunning? ( Surrounded in a room, prioritizing targets, etc). I think real sniping is an amazing skill, but sniping in destiny is assisted way to much. You have no bullet drop, almost no travel time, sway is minimal and almost no flinch. Shooting in any videogame is usually so unrealistic, that saying it requires skill makes no sense to me. ( not saying shotgunning requires more skill either) I would say that pretty much everything you do in a game requires two things - timing and quick reaction time.
-
I prefer a shotgun why Cause they close gap and if I react right they are dead A sniper I get caught in a hallway -blam!- I'm dead I challenge one I'm dead I challenge a shotgunner I can put them down
-
Each is hardest to be good with while it is the meta, because you'll no longer have an advantage at that range vs the average player.

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika sergantsnipes05: 4/22/2016 10:23:29 PMNo. Shotguns have a much lower skill gap and really don't require much in the way of aiming. While it does take a bit more map awareness than it used to, it still is and will always be easier to run a shotgun in destiny just because of how fast you can close the gap, the range and auto targeting of most melees, and how easy it is to get shotgun ammo. A shotgun with the current spawn ammo rate currently has a much higher kill potential in the average players hands. Most people are going to shoot 1 shot to get a kill while even the best snipers are going to miss just due to the nature of special ammo. There has been this strange ill conceived idea that shotguns are currently bad. While they aren't the snipers they were in year 1, they still have stupid range and the only thing shot package did was make them slightly less consistent at the edge of their range. Everyone was complaining about snipers yet if you look at the special the weapon usage over that time shotguns were STILL the most used and had more kills than snipers in 6v6. I personally really hadn't used shotguns for a while on my hunter. I equipped one the day 2.2 dropped and went off for 40 kills the first game. They aren't hard to use they just require something resembling a functional brain now, something that having the god tier boom sticks in year 1 made everyone lose so now snipers got nerfed because idiots would run around and down sniper lanes at head level expecting to win. Now Titan skating with Plan C is where it is at

Depends on the playlist

7 OdpowiedziI had over a 2 kd year one running around shot gunning. My kd is a 1.3 after I started sniping. So no. Shotgun rushing is by far the easiest way to get kills in a 6V6 playlist. 3V3? Maybe.

4 OdpowiedziNothing skilled about the juggernaut, twilight garrison, Titan skate, shotgun combo.
-
It's harder to shotgun.
-
Very true, shotguns are WAY more inconsistent to use now, snipers are reliable
-
1 OdpowiedźIf you have more then a kd of 1.0 just means that you are not playing against people as good as you. That means that the rng of the matchmaking just give you bad players. Just luck. Its a casual game.

I agree with your post completely, I have run shotgun since year 1 and have gotten really good at using it. I can easily outgun an average sniper but I might trade with a good sniper.

You are positively, without a doubt, 100% correct OP. People who think otherwise are pretty clueless. End of thread. Lock please.

15 OdpowiedziThere's no such thing as a "good sniper" in an FPS. Hiding in a corner & looking at high traffic choke points doesn't make you a good player, it makes you a coward who cares about stats too much. And, don't give me that garbage about it being a realistic military tactic -- if you want realism, join the friggin army. PVP is supposed to be a frenetic experience & snipers not only ruin that, they also negatively affect their own team's spawns. I've hated campers--ahem, I mean snipers--in every game I've ever played, whether they're on the other team or mine. It's a cowardly & pathetic playstyle.
-
I agree..I can hardscope high traffic areas, at head level all day and easily go positive..but rushing with a shotgun is not so easy
-
If one player can shotgun two to three players by himself that's person is good and better than any sniper who does the same. Snipers have no risk and are easily the best weapons in the game.
-
The TL;DR of this: Snipers can one shot kill from anywhere on the map. Shotguns can only one shot kill within .0000000001 of a meter. Shotguns take more skill. End of story.
-
To be honest: Its easy to be good @ shotgunning U can make kill with sniper, but being consistent is really hard sometimes. The most of the Maps are catered to close quarter combat. The skillgap between a good sniper and average sniper is much bigger than a good shotgunner than average shotgunner. On thw other hand: U need a good shotgun to compete in most cases, whereas a good sniper often can use any snipers. (the scopes are more important than perks IMO)

I think shotgunning is probably the best option simply because of its ease of use. Sweaty players seem to use them a lot because of this i'd say. Closing a gap and aiming at center of mass with a shotgun is easier than getting headshots with a sniper. That's just me.
-
4 OdpowiedziI think that if the sniper has AA then it's much easier. IT seemed that I was better at shotguns in y1

Snipers are an easy to use aim and shoot weapon. Shotguns are an easy run up to the enemy and shoot weapon. Shotguns are a bit worse now making them harder to use but they don't take much skill. Same for snipers, even though the only time they were "nerfed" was when you can one shot to the body without trying, and no, wouldn't consider the latest changes to them "nerfs", those barely did anything. The only shotgun that takes some skill to use is chaperone, considering you need to get a headshot or it isn't a one shot kill, so basically a close ranged sniper.

I'd say it really depends on the map. You have a lot of fairly small maps, which makes it easier to run in guns blazing on someone when using a shotgun.
-
I can't snipe at all so my go to secondary is the shotgun and I think you're right. A shotguner has to deal with the fact that they may not survive the encounter, it requires more quick thinking and strategy than staring down a hallway for most of the match. I had one incident where I made a wrong turn and found myself face to face with most of the enemy team so I shot the closest with my suros dis 43 and got the kill while moving to cover and then two of them followed me so I turned and got one with 2 shots from invective and killed the next with one shot and a melee, after that the fourth one finished me off. Another time I got a buckshot bruiser medal by taking down three shoulder charging titans. But really both weapons take skills to use effectively and equipping one or the other doesn't make you instantly amazing.
