Yes we should be angry

Ok let's start with some facts because there seems to be some confusion about the Gear for sale by Eververse: #1 Yes the gear has unique stats and perks. If you don't believe me rewatch the infusion process from today's stream. The purchased item already has an int/disp roll on it (can tell from the nodes, no actual numbers are displayed because it's low base level). THIS IS NOT A TRANSMOG SYSTEM. #2 You can get rep boosters for real money. No they aren't guaranteed, but the fact you can get them through real purchases is a party foul. This extra rep lets you earn the possibility for more gear faster than other guardians. Ok now that's out of the way let's talk about if this is a Pay to Win. No it isn't. Not by the precise definition of the word. There is no unique gear you have to pay for. It doesn't drop at max level. I know. I've fought these arguments all day. It's not pay to win but all of a sudden using microtransactions can give you an advantage over other gaurdians. AND THAT SHOULDNT BE IN THE GAME. No the advantages aren't huge or even guaranteed(no one even cares that much about armor rolls right?) but this is a deviation from Bungie's 'Cosmetic Only' policy. AND WE SHOULD BE PISSED ABOUT IT. But instead we have already shown we don't mind loot being sold for real money. You don't think this will get bigger since the community seems to even defend it? I bet otherwise. Before today I was actually pretty proud of the way Bungie had done microtransactions. They had kept their word about the purely cosmetic options you could pay for. I thought we were all worried for nothing. And today they change their policy (without most even saying a word about it mind you) and getting applause from their player base they are using. But we need to be angry because this is going to spread. We can still celebrate the good parts of this update without backing Eververse! I'm happy Shadow Price and P&T is coming back. But I am amazed the community is so warmed up to the idea of real money for engrams. I think most have just been starved from content so long they just wan something different. Hopefully I changed a few of the Bungie defenders minds with this post.... TL;DR: Bungie is charging money for rolled armor engrams and people should be pissed because Bungie changed their microtransaction policy. Edit: To those who remain unconvinced due to whatever reason I encourage everyone to listen to Goths points on the same issue. He obviously has more weight in the community than almost any other: http://youtu.be/7fpDRyBX8bQ?a

  • There is no roll on armor that is going to make it OP, ever. Also, who the -blam!- cares that someone will get a faction package 25% faster? I am a casual player and I'm swimming in weapons I'll never use that have great rolls. So what do I care of Johnny Trust-Fund drops a bunch of money on boosters. God roll weapons are all over the place already, and there's no weapon in my mind that is so severely over powered that it ruins my experience, and there is no roll on a weapon that is going to push it over the "limit". There is nothing in this update that can't countered with a dose of PATIENCE!

        • Boxes drop armor @ 3 light You get at least 3 boxes on 1 character per week (confirmed) That's 9 total with 3 characters (unconfirmed, may be more, may be less) Boxes earned, not bought, drop at least 1 armor every time (confirmed) Armor only has standard vendor perks found on ALL armor (confirmed) Armor does not contain unique perks such as those found in trials, iron banner, or raid armor sets that would give it an edge in said activities (confirmed) Armor found outside of boxes is most likely better due to higher light, better perks, and higher chance at better stats (confirmed) Only difference between box armor? Cosmetic value. There isn't any advantage.

Console gamers legit have no clue what pay to win is. You want to know what pay to win is? Let's say there's specific items that can only be obtained through purchasing them or buying a box that could drop them; now if said item is stronger than the ones you can obtain through normal play then it's pay to win. Eververse selling items that drop at an unusable light level, but do have random stats on them (So you could buy until you get an armor piece with the roll you want) sounds like pay to win on paper..But you've gotta realize you can get all of that stuff through playing the game anyway; and said stuff is completely RNG-based (What you get, what it has) so it can't even be considered a form of "sped up progression." but ya lets all circlejerk over what goth said because hes the be all end all to destiny and p2w knowledge

            • Your first point is wrong. There is nothing unqiue about the armor. The perks found on the armor are the same as any other vendor armor. It doesn't have anything the vendors don't have.

            • Yes but the perks aren't unique in any manner. They're like every other armor roll excluding raid gear and maybe ToO/IB. Who really cares that much there's no advantage to having bought it over having collected your three for the week.

The postmaster has it in its -blam!-ing inventory every week! How much easier can it get? So what it's not "cosmetic"? It's cool, and optionally free. It only costs money if you choose to pay for more gear chances.

Dude, the stuff drops at 3 light no matter how you obtain it. The only way to make it viable for competition in high level content is to infuse something else you already have at a higher level. So any advantage you are claiming is negated because you already had higher gear. And since it's a 1 for 1 infusion rate now, you can get the same rolls on gear from anywhere and infuse it using the same existing gear in your inventory. You sacrifice what you already have to make the piece you think LOOKS better viable. So they are indeed cosmetic items. And as far as xp boosts go... So what. No advantage is given beyond just leveling quicker. And when you meet someone in the crucible, you would never know if they used those or not.

                    • Read your #1. Perhaps you need to rewatch the stream. The reason it was Int/Dis at 330 was because the gear used for infusion (the one already at 330) was an Int/Dis roll. They clearly said the gear that's being infused up takes the roll of the higher piece of gear. So the only difference is the look. Destiny fasionistas are the only ones who benefit.

                            •
People who think this is P2W are completely off base. There is zero pay to win about this, so it's literally a non-issue. Let's go over some stuff very briefly, as pointed out in the stream today: 1. It is NOT pay to win because there are no items in the boxes only obtained through silver. All can be acquired in-game, completely, 100%, without question. 2. It is NOT pay to win because the armor drops within the treasure boxes start off at 3 light. They're legendary. They require level 40 to be worn, as per any legendary. They do NOT start off with their own INT, DISC, or STR rolls. The only way to give them stats is to infuse with them and that means you need to have gear already waiting in left wing in order to get them that high-level to begin with. Plus, we have no idea if the perks on the armor pieces are set or not; chances are they're random just like any gear in the game. A perfect example of it NOT being pay to win. 3. It isn't pay to win because there's zero distinct advantage being obtained by purchasing via silver. All the items can be obtained simply by playing the game. And not having those items doesn't put you at a disadvantage; the reverse is also 100% true. Pay to win refers to something giving you an advantage that you can pay money for. In Black Desert Online (PC MMORPG) we have the ghillie suit costume which prevents people from seeing your nameplate in the field. They can't tell who you are or who you belong to until they die. KINDA pay to win. In Archeage, we had a bunch of issues where Trion released things that gave you a ton of advantage over people right to the cash shop in the name of making some money. Go google it. P2W. There are tons of games - TONS - that are actually P2W. People on this forum simply freak out because they have -blam!-ing idea what it actually means. Hopefully people like this so it gets some visibility; adding cosmetics to the Eververse is not P2W at all. lmao Edit: Lots of likes. It's good to see that there are people who actually know what pay to win is, and is not. Thank you for the likes on this post, gentlemen.
• Its not pay to win as (other than certain guns) to get engrams. Because its mostly preference, i know you said u know its not pay to win but its not because as i said guns are based on preferences, its not like eververse will hand out random 335 weapons for silver. The only way thats possible is infusing already earned 335 gear into the 3 gear you buy. That being said, that 335 gear being infused is obtained through measures built within the game without buying (excluding expansions) so it is for cosmetic use because you are using the 335 you gained from pushing back the darkness, while using perks that you are more than capable of getting out in the wild as deej says and also the aesthetic appeal of getting that sick taken or the chroma gear. So buy paying, you dont win, you just get to look cooler QUICKER. Because the gear you obtain is easily obtainable i.e. Daily crucible, weekly postmaster. At no point will bungie hand out gear for real money that will give them an advantage. So with that being said, what do u care if a guardian looks cooler than u because he paid for the gear. No attacking. Just trying to understand :P
