Since the new arrivals to the store, the usual two groups have emerged.
Group A: the whiners that look for anything to call Bungie out on and don't understand what pay to win is
Group B: the level headed group that understands what pay to win actually is and understands how little of an impact this actually has.
Pay to win is not getting to level 25 faster than me because you paid 30 dollars to do so. Level 25 doesn't have any advantage and I will reach that level in ten hours of gameplay. There is nothing about it that lets you "win" over me especially for the current player base.
Examples of what pay to win really is:
- buying an exclusive subclass
- buying an exclusive exotic weapon or armor
- buying a boost that significantly (like way greater than 3of coins) increases exotic drop rate and is usable all the time
- buying something that would be required to play content such as the raid
- buying things that would give you a significant advantage over every other player in the crucible
Now that you have real examples of what pay to win is, maybe you can make a better decision next time before coming and bitching on he forums about things you claim to be, but are not, pay to win.
Edit: Good fucking God I did not expect this to catch this much attention. I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol. But thanks for giving me my first trending post! I will add some follow up points below.
1.) it is a slippery slope, I agree with that much, but it is in no way pay to win, no matter which tiniest little scenario you come up with in which it shows a glimpse of that nature, this has no effect on "winning" considering we were all given the spark of light for free when we bought ttk
2.) people are saying I'm the kind of person that would defend them even if they sold 320 gear. No..no I would not be. Selling end game gear, although it is something earn-able, is not something I would be okay with. What this current boost does is get you caught up quickly if you really want to blow 30 dollars, not allow you to spend money on something to get endgame gear while others have to grind for it. Not okay with that in the slightest.
3.) if Bungie ever sells anything available only through purchase with real world money that gives a significant advantage, like if they had sold the touch of malice or a thorn 2.0, that was not obtainable in game, I would be standing right alongside the rest of you rioting and protesting. Or if they sold any exotic gear for that matter.
4.) to recap, pay to win is not this. Pay to win is being able to buy something significantly advantageous that is completely unobtainable in game. But I would still not be okay with them selling anything of real importance in game. But xp boosters? The least of my worries.
Edit: I notice a number of you mentioning the "cosmetic only" promise. Technically, they still haven't broken it because eververse is what they were referring to. These items are sold through the console store :p (I'm just being a troll lol, but I do get what you're saying)

I mostly agree.. but now they are walking a VERY fine line.... I am still mostly supporting micro transactions... but this one is definitely pushing it...
-
Well from my understanding the book gives exclusive armor and you can also get a weapon from the boost correct? By your definition that's pay to win. I hate micro transactions when dlc already costs money and I refuse to take part it in while I have friends that do it. It doesn't hurt my feelings when my brother gets his exotic subclass armor from his preorder infused up and it's technically not superior to other gear, but in some cases it may as well be xur selling gjallarhorn that only people who pay can get. They should include these exclusive items in the game and boosts as well as loot. I don't care if it's 1/100,000 chances as long as it's possible to get for free. Then it'll just be the impatient people buying it and not the collectors that want all the good stuff. It's business marketing for sure and very well designed to rival clash of clans and candy crush, but it's utter bullshit like the click buy ads on all the kids games in app stores. Yeah that's the level of greed bungie and activision have: they're the people the would manipulate a toddlers game full of click ads so your toddler accidentally spends $30 because they want to do their colors on your phone or god forbid a puzzle or abc's.
-
I agree completely, however the whole micro transaction thing is beginning to get out of hand, bungie as a developer should encourage you to level up the normal way and play their game. Not pay to boost some levels be it 25 or not. Seeing as how they are the developers regardless of what we say they get the final word, and If they want to charge for such things then so be it. I just hope they realise they are alienating a large portion of their audience, and will lose some of their fan base.

Well said op. Group A, please digest this logic before further posts. #GroupB

You don't know man, what you talking about! You will see, I will say I told you so you belive Bungies lies...now excuse me I need more tin foil and a clean sock.
-
You're absolutely spot on. New players being able to instantly jump to 25 in no way negatively impacts the already experienced player base. If anything the shortcut robs the new player of 10 hours of experience with the mechanics of the game. My buddy just got in to Destiny 2 weeks ago and he used the in game item to jump to 20 (that spark thing, mine is still in my vault). He wanted to run through all of the original story and then the expansions in order. The level boost made everything super easy, of course. So what happened when we finally got to TTK content and a real challenge? He failed miserably because he was so used to beasting through the game that he didn't know how to tactically handle a challenging map. When they put the best weapons and gear behind a paywall, I'll bitch along with everyone else. Complaining about industry-standard shortcuts on the other hand, is just petty.

Glad someone understands...the ignorance around here is mind boggling.

1 OdpowiedźHaha I love all the comments arguing "it's still not a cosmetic, they said micro transactions would only be for cosmetic.." when the point should be who really cares? Trust me, if the lies of a video game company is enough to ruffle your feathers, you need more life experience.
-
I'm fine with the micro transactions. I have a job, and if I wanna pay for the "boo" emote I'm gonna damn well do it.
-
11 OdpowiedziDesticle, you're being conditioned to slowly accept microtransactions, bit by bit, until it really is pay to win. You are the cancer killing this game.
-
You forgot the conspiracy theorists who take every opertunity to proclaim that this new thing called "x" will be the end of destiny.
-
3 Odpowiedziother examples are paying someone else to carry you or play your character for you to go flawless or complete the Raid (challenge).
-
Shouldn't you all be worried more about ISIS or global warming or world hunger or the jackbooted thugs of the federal government coming for your personal property or something? I know those are things that keep me up, not silly -BLAM!- like a video game. As much as I like Destiny, it's just a game.

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika MitchPlz: 12/15/2015 8:05:39 PMThis isn't pay to win, but u can still buy power, doesn't matter what level it is, bungie said it was pure cosmetic, but it's not. People thy actually believe this won't get worse open ur eyes and look at this path we have been taken on. I love the game and really don't care, but it's gonna get worse
-
I think its noobs having to buy stuff. So they can think they're doing something. Otherwise its noobs buying crap because they suck and cant earn it.
-
1 OdpowiedźOr like me: Group C: The people who don't care about Bungie adding things that you can pay for
but that enthusiastic dance though
-
10 OdpowiedziSo if I started a new character with a friend and he bought the pack he has no advantage over me? Shit thanks I didn't know that
-
2 OdpowiedziPeople are also upset about the big picture, and not just the quick leveling. This shitty type of micro transactions will continue, and it will only get worse. And there's the fact that bungie said they were only doing cosmetic stuff.
-
I think my concern isnt what is categorized as what etc. the game itself is just not doing well imo and I have zero friends who play this game that all banded together at day 1. Nonenof then are coming back (havent for quite awhile) and I am frankly really tired of how Bungie runs this game. If I had all day to game, i wouldnt mind as much, but my gaming time is precious and honestly this game isnt worth it.
-
Main reasons why people are pissed and have the right to be. 1. Bungie said cosmetic only multiple times on Twitter 2. It's overpriced as balls showing you how cheap they are. For Christ sake it's as much as TDB and HoW! Come on you sheep. 3. "Guys micro transactions are just emotes! You aren't any better at crucible with a clap." "Guys it's JUST Halloween masks who cares" "So what if it's 10 dollars for a record book with an exclusive set of armor and exclusive sparrow" "5 dollars per random sparrow...? It's still just cosmetic" "Haha who cares so what if people can pay to level, it DEFINITELY won't go any further than this ....right..?" It's only going up from here. Next will be something even worse.
-
Group B also includes people who want pay-to-win, but it never works because you can't buy self-esteem.
-
3 OdpowiedziI could argue that not only does this not provide an advantage to those purchasing it, but it actually does the opposite for a couple of reasons. 1) No in-game experience is obtained through instant leveling 2) No opportunities to obtain exotic or legendary gear/engrams through instant leveling This product places players who use it at measurable disadvantage compared to those who reached level 25 normally.
-
This post is not biased at all.
lol??
22 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika KidSixXx: 12/15/2015 7:35:17 PMWith enough real money poured into Shark Cards in GTA Online, I can buy the best guns available, a tank, an attack chopper, a high end apartment that gives me access to advanced game content, and I can also buy the fastest and most durable land, sea, and air vehicles in the game. In Mass Effect 3, you could use real money to pay for equipment packs that allowed you to unlock better weapons that gave you a distinct edge in co-op play. And people think that being able to purchase emotes, Sparrow horns, and Festival of the Lost masks is P2W? Paying to level up is not P2W. A newb will still play like a newb regardless of character or light level.
-
16 OdpowiedziNo, the 25 boost is not pay to win. But it is yet another step towards pay to win. It's only a matter of time until they sell actual pay to win items/packages/boosts for silver, and seeing how complacent this community is and how many people eat out of Bungie's hands, it won't be long.
-
Of course it's not pay to win, but it's not cosmetic. I would guess they are worried, if bungie will go past cosmetics only what's next. Either way none has an affect on me. Just trying a level headed approach to understand why they may be upset.
