So there is this big universe...But no animals.
Destiny's "big open world" has no animals, none. It would be nice to see weird space animals on different places. Bungie created this universe, but made it hallow. Am I the only one that would enjoy seeing animals in the game?

You shoot wild "animals" all the time. What do you think the cabal and fallen are? But as for native fauna, earth is the only planet that has been habitable long enough to develop a diverse ecosystem. All the plants on Venus were migrated there by humans. But from a realistic video game design viewpoint animals are hard.

Why would there be animals hanging around fallen and hive? Do wild animals hang out with humans? The fact that you only see birds makes sense. Sorry, but I don't think we're going to see a bear roaming around the tower.

I think there were animals but they were taken out by thousands of errant gjallarhorn rockets.
